Liv e r pool Ropew a l k s Sit e Analysis See l / Slater Str e e t The Site I have chosen for my building proposal is the Liverpool Ropewalks Site Car Park located between Seel Street and Slater street. It is at the heart of the Ropewalks area, close enough to the lively leaisure facilities as well as to the city centre but is also in a quiter area of the town centre area by day. The site has a great balance and great potential for future development.

BUILDING TYPES Liverpool Ropewalks Urban Study
The building type of Ropewalks show on the left side. The colours in the diagram show that the building types in study area are mainly resturants &bars, residential buildings and retails. The different of building types in our area is an interreating part of the character and atmosphere of the area. The top half building types of Ropewalks are restaurant& bars and retails. The lower part building types of our area are residential building, communal buildings and educational buildings. Most of retails in this area are beauty salon, clothes shop, tattoo shop. Those vacant lands are develop to car park now.Some residential buildings were adapted to other uses, with ground floors converted to shops as the retail importance of the area grew.

SUMMARY OF WIDER CONTEXT
The materiality and coulors in the area have considerable variety of different styles in Ropewalks. The material coulor tone of old Ropewalks is dark and most of the materials are bricks. However, the material coulor tone of new Ropewalks is quite Bright , such as Bold Street’s pink wall. The change of Ropewalks materials from bricks wall to concrete, tile or glass bricks. Besides materials, graffiti and paintings which are on pub or coffee shop wall, are the other features of Ropewalks. Some of the regenerated buildings still use the old Ropewalks coulor tone to keep the local culture. The site analysis of Ropewalks comes to life with the materially and textures of the different facades and surfaces. The study helps us to get a feel for a area in a deeper way, giving greater understanding to the background of Ropewalks

Spirit of Place
Site Character
The site on Ropewalks has a very cultural industrial spririt. With many clubs and bars located on seel street and slater street, the site is at the heartt of a lively district.
The site has a very urban character of the inner city location, with graffiti located in certain areas of the site. Also the different hues of brickwork with an industrial nature surround the site with what appears to be a Georgian typology of adjacent buildings.
In adition to the cultural identithy of many of the leisure facilities in the proximity of Ropewalks such as the F.A.C.T Cinema and the many shops and boutiques around the site locality, the Ropewalks area has a hipster spirit.
Issue 1
There is a mixture of styles of buildings in the immediate surrounding area which would allow for a range of materiality choices that would compliment the site architecturally. The average storey height is arround 4 storeys which is fairly low rise and wouldn't be appropriate with a building obscuring views and dominating the immediate skyline or local buildings.
