MASDAR, PORT OF AMSTERDAM, SKYNRG, EVOS AMSTERDAM AND ZENITH ENERGY SIGN MOU
Clean energy company Masdar, the Port of Amsterdam, sustainable aviation company SkyNRG, bulk storage company Evos Amsterdam and independent oil and gas company Zenith Energy have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). This is to explore the development of a green hydrogen supply chain between Abu Dhabi and Amsterdam to support Dutch and European energy markets.
The exported green hydrogen will be delivered to key European sectors – sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), steelmaking, and bunkering for shipping, and will also be supplied to new, emerging European offtakers, via pipeline, truck and barge. Together, the parties will explore several hydrogen transportation methods, with a focus on liquid organic hydrogen carriers and liquid hydrogen.
Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE minister of industry and advanced technology and chairman of Masdar, says: ‘This agreement builds upon the existing relationship between the UAE and the Netherlands and demonstrates our mutual commitment to exploring low and zero-carbon energy solutions. The UAE aims to play a central role in the emerging green hydrogen economy and this partnership with the Port of Amsterdam and associated players in the green hydrogen space would help position Abu Dhabi as a key hub for green hydrogen development.’
ADNOC DEDICATES $15 BILLION TO LOWCARBON SOLUTIONS
ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company) is allocating $15 billion (€14.3 billion) for decarbonisation projects by 2030, including carbon capture, electrification, new carbon absorption technology and enhanced investments in hydrogen and renewable energy.
The multi-year action plan follows board approval of ADNOC’s goal to be net zero by 2050. It also builds on ADNOC’s strong record in establishing responsible energy production.
ADNOC is inviting global technology and industry leaders to work in partnership and drive action to progress energy transition and future-proof the industry. As part of this development, ADNOC will apply a rigorous commercial and sustainability assessment to ensure all projects deliver a lasting impact.
ADNOC plans to announce a number of projects and initiative in 2023, including a first-of-its-kind CCS project, carbon removal technologies, and investment in cleaner solutions. The expansion of ADNOC’s energy portfolio will mainly occur through its stake in Masdar, the UAE’s clean energy powerhouse.
