GOVERNORS ISLAND PROMENADE
INSTRUCTOR: MUSTAFA FARUKI 2022
The promenade in Governors Island proposes a structure comprised of two lap pools, walking paths, and sitting areas. Inspired by the New York tradition of land reclamation, the promenade floats above water with access from the island, allowing visitors to experience the melancholic story of the island by creating vantage points to its abandoned and forgotten buildings like Castle Williams and the Navy Library. The swimmers are sheltered in frosted glass cubes with faded views, while smaller lap pools in three different promenades confront the user with the island, creating a more intimate experience. The island’s obscure qualities are protected by not building on land.

A SECRET GARDEN IN COLLABORATION WITH MUSKAAN CHUGH
2022
The garden is a place for serenity, deep contemplation, and seeking peace.
Lying in one of the busiest areas of Rome, entering the garden through three different perspectile pockets is a deeply mysterious Roman experience. As one wanders around inverted pyramids acting as fountains and plant pots, each corner turns into an opportunity for a new spatial experience. Down below lies the misty grotto. Reached by three ramps placed inside the entry pockets, the grotto is dark, humid, wet, and sacred. One feels the weight of the world on their head as they make their way around the inverted pyramids, and become the threshold between above and under.

WATER VOID
INSTRUCTOR: DILLON PRANGER
2022
Water Void is a local boathouse that sits on a natural narrow creek opening up to the Cayuga Lake in Ithaca, New York. The boathouse proposes a collective ritual of rowing in and out of a tunnel to reach the lake. As one rows deeper into the tunnel , it gradually gets narrower and darker, creating a dramatic yet serene experience for the rowers. Leaving the boathouse, the tunnel frames the views of the Cayuga Inlet and re-defines the notion and action of rowing. The shower rooms inside act as an end to the collective ritual as they become social spaces for collective interaction and engagement, while providing all levels of privacy.

TEMPLE OF COSMOS
INSTRUCTOR: LUBEN DIMCHEFF
2020
Temple of Cosmos examines a meticulous site located on top of Fall Creek Gorge in Ithaca, proposing a residence for two academics. Next to the site, astronomer Carl Sagan’s Egyptian Revival house that once was a temple for a secret society, influences a cosmic and terrestrial energy to the site. Temple of Cosmos explores the notions of compression and verticality by interpreting delicate forces - the deep gorge and the endless cosmos - as two distinct elements that work together, creating A threshold spaces amid the chaotic nature of the surrounding ethereal atmosphere.
