TTS Foundation Mission Statement

The TTS Foundation funds exceptional opportunities and provides members of the Tanglin community with life changing experiences so they can contribute with confidence to our world.

“Graduates of the future need to be armed with much more than just academics to stand out. The TTS Foundation provides the opportunity for my children to have experiences that will be influential in who they grow up to be. TTS Foundation was established in 2012 and funded exclusively from Placement Right income (not from school fee income), to enable exceptional opportunities for our students.

Following the introduction of philanthropic giving to the TTS Foundation in 2015, this Report of Giving is a record of the generosity of our community and donors. It highlights the varied ways our students have benefited from the TTS Foundation.

None of this would have been possible without the support of parent advocates. This committed team entered into this campaign with a pioneering spirit and I am delighted that through their combined effort to build community understanding, and the generosity of donors within the community, we raised over $77,000. Combined with our annual donation from the school, this has been used to enable the exceptional opportunities detailed in this report.

Our students will, I have no doubt, go on to be future leaders in their fields of choice and as beneficiaries of TTS Foundation, we hope that they will do this with a sense of commitment to give back to the societies of which they become part.

Being part of an international school community in Singapore leads to many wonderful opportunities for our students. The TTS Foundation fundraising campaign sets out to provide ‘exceptional opportunities’, above and beyond a bar which is already set very high. This first year of fundraising has shown us just how exciting this can be in terms of opening up new possibilities.

The range of projects funded, from the inspirational visit of the ‘HandleBards’ to the many individual awards enabling students to develop their talents, have had an impact right across our school. I would like to thank all members of the Tanglin family who contributed to this first campaign and I look forward to the continued development of the TTS Foundation, as it enables the Tanglin experience to be truly exceptional!

TTS Foundation funds exceptional opportunities in four main project areas: • Engagement with global issues and with the wider community • Visits from Inspirational individuals and groups • Participation in Creative Arts and Sports • Development of Life Skills.

Seven students received funding for self-initiated voluntary projects during their holidays. Projects included teaching English in Cambodia and community football in Thailand.

Tanglin Alumni returned to school to work with both Science and Modern Foreign Language teams. As TTS Foundation Interns they joined the faculty teams for six weeks working in classrooms, supporting and inspiring our students in their area of subject specialism.

Children have been spellbound by our varied and exciting programme of inspirational visitors. Winners of the Rugby 7’s Tournament and Olympic Gold winners, the Fiji Rugby team trained with Senior students on our Tanglin playing field. Olympic Silver medallist Jazz Carlin and Lewis Coleman trained our Merlion swim squads.

Dominic Peckham sang within school and in One North Community and nine hundred students listened to the a capella group, The Yale Alley Cats.

Extending the music awards programme to include string instruments (Violin and Cello) Music Awards offer a fantastic opportunity for students to play a musical instrument that they have never touched before. We were pleased to be able to offer several children the opportunity to receive subsidised violin and cello lessons and perform with the Junior String Group.

“With the support of a TTS Foundation Representative Award, we were able to travel to Brisbane to experience playing against teams of an extremely high calibre, improving both our confidence and our abilities�. M. Williams, Alumni (Class of 2016)

Recognising the high cost of representing Tanglin overseas, the Representative Award offers some financial support to those children who have demonstrated perserverance and commitment to their sport or art.

Hosting workshops from visiting theatre and visual arts groups.

Every child in the Infant and Junior Schools together with many in the Senior School have been entertained and inspired by visiting artists ranging from Evolve Arts, a local theatre group, Loose Canon, puppeteers from Australia, and the HandleBards, cycling actors from Europe.

2016/17 Fundraising Campaign We invite donations to our 2016/17 fundraising campaign which will run from 3 October for six weeks. Please help us continue these projects and do even more this year.

Highlights of exciting new experiences we have planned for 2016/17 include: • Jazz Carlin (Team GB), Double Silver Medallist in the Rio Olympics, returns to inspire swimmers and non-swimmers alike in the pool and at school assemblies.

• We would like to sponsor students attending schools in Cambodia and Ladakh; allowing our students to visit and interact with their peers from an entirely different community and culture • Extending the TTS Foundation Pedal Power Programme from Year 2 to Year 3 to teach safe and proficient cycling to around 400 children this year.

• Driving sustainability on the campus, in particular, reducing the use of single use plastic.
