THE LION'S DEN

Tanglin Gymnasts Learn from Olympic and Commonwealth Champions

This past weekend, Tanglin Trust School had the privilege of hosting British gymnastics legends Kelly Simm and Claudia Fragapane for a truly inspiring workshop with our Competitive and Performance Squad gymnasts. With outstanding international careers representing Team GB at the Olympic Games, World Championships, European Championships, and Commonwealth Games, both athletes brought a wealth of experience, energy, and motivation to the gym.

The day was packed with learning, covering key technical areas including beam complex, bar drills, floor tumbling basics, and choreography. Just as valuable were the lessons shared off the equipment, Kelly and Claudia spoke openly about overcoming injuries, surgeries, mental blocks, and the challenges of staying motivated during long recoveries. Their honesty and encouragement resonated strongly with the gymnasts, who also gained valuable insight into balancing school, training, and competing commitments, as well as practical tips on nutrition and performance preparation.

A highlight of the day was a special parent workshop, where families received guidance on supporting their young athletes through the highs and lows of the season. From managing competition nerves and social media to fostering healthy habits and resilience, the session was full of practical advice. We’re incredibly proud of how our students embraced this opportunity and are confident it’s set the tone for a strong, motivated start to the year. We extend our sincere thanks to Kelly and Claudia and can’t wait to welcome them back to Tanglin soon.
