THE LION'S DEN

SEASAC Swimming

Another fantastic SEASAC experience, always one of the highlights of the year. This was the most prepared the team has looked heading into the competition. Their positive support for one another set the tone throughout the meet, and the results and enjoyment followed. Once again, the team demonstrated exactly what makes this group so special.

What more can be said about the Merlions Girls? Four consecutive titles with no signs of slowing down. Nathalie claimed her third successive MVP award, while Eloise and Chloe joined her in sweeping the Top Girls’ Point Scorer honours with truly remarkable performances and records that will stand the test of time. The team’s haul of 18 gold medals across the meet reflected their outstanding dominance.

There were also memorable breakthrough moments. Casha and Naya captured their first SEASAC gold medals, while Natasha secured her first medals with three individual bronze finishes in the breaststroke events. The Girls also swept all four relay races in dominant fashion, breaking both school and SEASAC records each time and continuing a trend of getting faster year after year. Most importantly, every single swimmer contributed points toward the team total, underlining the collective effort behind this championship victory.

Our Boys are starting to believe. They competed with determination in both their individual races and relays and are beginning to taste success. Edward has played a huge role in building that belief within the group, helping the team break School Records in the 4x50m and 4x100m Freestyle Relays. The Boys also scored more points than last year, finishing in 7th place overall.

Josh delivered an outstanding performance across the weekend, breaking the Backstroke School Record six times over the 50m, 100m and 200m events. His efforts culminated in a bronze medal in the final event of the meet, the 100m Backstroke, creating a fantastic moment for the team to celebrate a Boys medal together.

Our Mixed relays were equally impressive, remaining undefeated and winning both the Freestyle and Medley relays. Congratulations to Michael, Edward, Josh, Nat, Eloise and Chloe, who combined to form an unbeatable team.

Finally, a special thank you to Chloe and Edward for their outstanding leadership as Captains this year.

SEASAC Badminton Championships – Kuala Lumpur

Tanglin’s badminton teams travelled to Kuala Lumpur last week to compete in the SEASAC Badminton Championships, where both squads delivered commendable performances while representing the school with pride.

Throughout the tournament, the players demonstrated strong determination, resilience and competitive spirit on court, while maintaining excellent conduct off it. One of the standout aspects of the trip was the strong sense of camaraderie within the squad. Senior players took on important leadership roles, guiding and supporting the younger members of the team, while the entire squad consistently encouraged and cheered each other on during matches.

SEASAC Badminton Championships – Kuala Lumpur

The girls’ team finished 6th overall in a tightly contested competition. The standard across all participating schools was extremely high, with many matches decided by the narrowest of margins. Despite several close encounters that could have gone either way, the girls showed impressive determination and composure throughout the tournament. Their performance, attitude and team spirit highlight a very promising future for the programme.

The boys’ team produced an excellent showing, finishing 3rd overall in a highly competitive field where there was little separating the top four teams. The players displayed tremendous fighting spirit and teamwork across the event, delivering strong performances against quality opposition and earning a well-deserved podium finish.

A special acknowledgement goes to the Year 13 students, who competed in their final SEASAC Championships for Tanglin. They have been outstanding ambassadors for the programme and invaluable mentors to the younger players. Their leadership and commitment have helped foster the strong team culture that was evident throughout the tournament.

Overall, it was a memorable championship for Tanglin Badminton, with both teams showcasing not only their competitive abilities but also the values of sportsmanship, teamwork and resilience.
