FRIENDS, Cheers to a New Year! If we had to sum up this past year in one word, it would be rewarding. From the growth of our team to the partnerships we’ve developed, it has allowed us the opportunity to create some of the most meaningful projects for our clients. We’ve branched out of our comfort zones, learned from the experiences our partners and clients have living under glass, and was able to share with you another passion of ours – music – in the newly released playlist CONSERVATORIES: Here Comes The Sun. For years, Nancy and I have admired the art of music and this playlist brings together our passion for music and conservatories, creating a truly magical experience. As always, we are exceptionally grateful for the memories, friends, and partnerships that were made in 2022. Here is to a joyous and safe new year for you and your loved ones! Sincerely,
Alan & Nancy

CUSTOM CONSERVATORIES AS PRIVATE CONCERT VENUES: WHAT SONGS WOULD BE ON YOUR PLAYLIST?
If you have ever googled Conservatories or Conservatories near me, you probably have come across some fun concert venues to enjoy the arts. There is even an event venue named Tanglewood in the towns of Lenox and Stockbridge in the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts. It has been the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra since 1937! But did you know your private conservatory lends great acoustics to host your own concerts right at home?! A conservatory is the perfect place to ‘deck the halls' and host parties for your family and friends. A combination of the warm wood and an open view to the outside on a frosty night is the perfect backdrop for a festive gathering.

While a conservatory is a superb choice for a large gathering, many clients also enjoy just streaming their favorite playlist while relaxing with family or staying up late to admire the night sky while staying comfortable and warm indoors. Our team has put together a few of our favorite acoustics to play in the conservatory to share with you. Check out Tanglewood’s first conservatory music collection: CONSERVATORIES: Here Comes The Sun, now streaming on Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube. Click the icons below to listen on your favorite station! Thank you so much for being a part of our community where we are able to share our experiences with conservatories!
... a lovely agrarian setting when tables are brought into the conservatory nestled among the plants. Soft, ambient lighting with candles and lanterns set an ethereal scene while soft tones play in the background. It is a truly joyous entertaining venue for any holiday dinner party. Many of our clients host small, intimate concerts in their conservatories ranging from classical selections to jazz. The acoustics in a conservatory is mesmerizing. One client frequently hosts concerts and boasts of a waiting list of those requesting to attend! For a more intimate gathering, a single harpist playing carols will set the stage for a warm and enchanting evening.

Luxury Glass Additions Come in all Shapes and Sizes One of the many things we love about our clients is their passion for horticulture. Just like many of the great horticulturists, creating beautiful new displays every day presents new challenges and opportunities to bring wondrous, original creations to the world. From appreciation of beautiful architecture to being a plant enthusiast, all of which come to life under this grand custom dome for our client in the Midwest of the United States
As you walk through the room, you first are welcomed by these grand, steel doors and windows. The beautiful tall doors allowed those who walk in to immediately scope the space out in awe. Gliding the doors open to step inside, the decorated millwork draws your eyes up to the ceiling. On the exterior, the subtle copper roof, gutters, and spire finial were the finishing touches that brought together the overall design.
As part of a larger home renovation, the addition of this custom dome was special. Combining their love for citrus trees, hosting parties, and decorative art, they envisioned this addition to be a place where they could house all their favorite things in one location.
Throughout our conversations with the family and Zobrist Design Group, they stressed how important having an abundance of natural light pouring in at all hours of the day was to them. Not only did the team have to discover where on the property would be the prime location for sun exposure, but we had to collaborate on the best design approach for the dome to maximize light exposure and movement in the room below; talk about a fun challenge!
Beauty Lies in The Details When you picture your happy place – where are you? What are the sights, sounds, and smells?

An appreciation Of Conservatory Architecture
HISTORIC CONSERVATORIES OF THE 17TH & 18TH CENTURY & THE ARCHITECTURE BEHIND THEM! Have you ever wondered what started the trend for conservatories and why they are still desired after over 200 years? The humble beginnings of glasshouses were first introduced during the 17th and 18th centuries. Developed by “a royal appetite and a doctor’s command”, as Alan states in their publication The Conservatory: Gardens Under Glass, to overwinter tender plants in cool European climates, the first conservatory was created using cold frames covered with oilcloth or translucent stone like mica to act like glass. Much different from the typical build of conservatories we are familiar with today such as Syon Park, the Crystal Palace, and the Conservatories at Kew Gardens. During this time, garden beds would be moved outside during the warmer months and when nights become too cold and the light too dim for growing, gardeners would move the beds back inside.

As word spread over the next thousand years, people began educating themselves on the world around them. What had been rudimentary havens for the cultivation of food and medicinal plants evolved into orangeries created to house citrus and other exotic trees brought back to Europe by explorers who traveled the world searching for useful plants. These new buildings were usually constructed with thick masonry walls and southfacing windows to provide just enough light and heat to keep citrus, bay, myrtle, pomegranate, and other tender exotics alive until they could be moved outdoors in the spring. Plants were grown in containers specifically designed for ease of movement. Although functional, overall aesthetics were not a priority when it came to protecting delicate tropical plants from the cold. It was not until later that wealthy Renaissance merchants built orangeries more worthy of their status. Aristocrats grasped the opportunity to show off their rare treasures by commissioning architects to imagine structures even more beautiful than those built by preceding generations. Nobles and wealthy merchants across Europe and the United Kingdom built grand orangeries, such as the Versailles Orangery, large enough to hold hundreds of these citrus trees. Nestled against south-facing walls, under terraces, or within larger buildings, these orangeries became places for gatherings, feasts, and parties where guests could be enveloped by the fragrance and beauty of prized citrus trees. As time progressed, architects and builders became more creative in their expressions of conservatories and their use. From the introduction of glass to hand-carved decorations into the stonework, take a stroll through some of the most iconic conservatories from this time period!
