When you think of your happy place, do you find yourself describing an outdoor oasis surrounded by beautiful plants?

One of the most rewarding aspects of being a luxury glass designer is we get to dream with our clientslearning what they are passionate about and what's important to them, we are able to translate their visions into a beautiful design specific for them to live out their passions. For a recent client of ours, their happy place is in their garden surrounded by beautiful lush plants.

A Gardener’s Dream

There is something about being immersed in nature that brings us joy and peace – whether it is the beautiful scenery, the sounds and smells, or admiring the wildlife, we often find ourselves compelled to spend time with family and friends outdoors!

When crafting the design for this greenhouse, they were initially enamored with a previous garden house

Tanglewood had created several years back.

The octagonal shape and natural flooring connected with our clients and wanted to create a greenhouse that resembled these characteristics but complemented their existing home. After completing a few design concepts, we wanted to ensure we captured both an elegant design but also incorporated elements specific for gardening where they will plant their garden, watering access, and more.

From the start we landed on this elegant octagonal shape made entirely of mahogany wood The clients loved this unique floorplan so to pair it well with the house and keep its form we incorporated a beautiful glass linkway with a custom door separating the greenhouse from the main house.

Embracing Nature's Embrace: Enchanting Glass Sanctuaries for These Greenhouse Lovers

Do you have an unused, dark space in your home that you want to use more often?

When a family approached us with their vision of transforming their unused outdoor terrace into a conservatory, we were immediately captivated by their passion! They had fallen in love with one of our previous projects and wanted a faithful replication of that enchanting space with slight modifications to complement their home

As we embarked on this journey together, our team was inspired by their deep passion for their home Having spent nearly 30 + years transforming it from a house to a home, every room was carefully crafted to showcase their passion for art and history. We knew the addition of this conservatory needed to be special, to be an extension to their carefully crafted home and house of beautiful works of art.

Creating Flow and Harmony

The conservatory would become a gravitational force, drawing family and friends to its captivating embrace. With its seamless integration into the existing living space, the transition from indoor to outdoor living would become a harmonious experience, bringing the outdoors in and adding additional light into an otherwise dark and uninviting room It is this sense of unity and connection that the clients eagerly anticipate, as it promises to transform not just the physical space but also the way they live and interact within their home

While the design direction for their conservatory was established, there were a few details we had to work out so we could seamlessly create this design to match their existing house. The existing terrace was sunken into the ground and was resting tight up against the house overlooking the water.

Existing Inspiration tanglewoodconservatories.com 13

For us to connect the conservatory to the main house was tricky. The tight conditions forced us to design the roof in a way where we would not disrupt the existing roof and the gutter would capture any rain or debris and funnel it away from the house but also hide it from being seen on the interior The solution – we raised the conservatory above the existing roof, designed the gutter to sit with the existing roof to capture debris and where we would normally put glass, we created a decorative interior wood panel!

Installation Day

Watching their enthusiasm as the project progressed and working with our team was contagious. Our team was just as excited to watch this project come to life and deliver an exceptional space that our clients will cherish for years to come!

Our team is now off site and we are anxiously waiting to see the conservatory finished! When we spoke with the family, they continued to talk about how even now the conservatory has redefined the flow and charm of their home. They said:

"You know, it is amazing how much adding this room has changed the way we use our house. The room adjoining the conservatory was always so dark and we never spent much time in it until after the conservatory was added! Now, we find ourselves gravitating to the conservatory –it is simply spectacular ”

Stay tuned later this summer to see this beautiful conservatory all finished and furnished!

Spotlight Feature

Introducing Gazebos, Canopies, & Garden Follies!

Custom gazebos, follies, and canopies have been a central fixture in estate and public gardens for centuries, providing a space to seek refuge and host gatherings These outdoor structures have evolved from simple, open-air solid-roofed structures to more decorative art fixtures that make a statement

Over the years, Tanglewood has had the honor of designing these unique gems for our clients for hosting special occasions, seating in intimate gardens, and even to match their conservatories! If you’re looking to incorporate a gazebo, folly, or canopy into your garden design, here are some tips and ideas to consider:

1 | How will you use your custom gazebo, garden folly, or canopy?

Gazebos, follies, and canopies serve different purposes to different families The most common purposes are to provide additional seating areas in the garden, host outdoor events, and/or create a focal point in your garden. Tanglewood has also worked with clients on unique, one-of-a-kind fixtures such as sculptural outdoor showers by the pool and folly swings that extend the architecture from the house into the garden.

When considering how your family would use this space, also think about how it will interact with the rest of your garden and home Oftentimes, these fixtures become integral parts of your landscape or home design From your vision, our design specialist can then begin to define the function and form of your gazebo, folly or canopy

2 | Decide where the best location will be for your gazebo, folly or canopy!

The size of your custom gazebo, folly, or canopy should be proportional to the size of your garden. It should also be placed in a location that enhances the beauty of your outdoor space without overwhelming it. Take into consideration the existing landscape and the views you want to highlight when deciding on placement

Referring back to your purpose – are you creating this space to capture the beautiful water views while you enjoy a cup of coffee? Is this to be more of an art fixture that ties in with the landscape design? If you are going to be entertaining large or intimate gatherings, how close or far away from the house is appropriate depending on what you will need from the house to host?

6 | Enhance the ambiance of your custom gazebo, garden folly, or canopy with lights!

Imagine… after a long day of work you surprise your significant other with a romantic dinner under the stars in your custom gazebo overlooking the water. While custom gazebos and follies are beautiful and functional by themselves the addition of lights can help enhance their presence, making them a beautiful focal point in your garden even after dark. String lights, lanterns, or even chandeliers can be added to your structure for added ambiance

Incorporating a gazebo, folly, or canopy into your garden design can add an element of charm and beauty to your outdoor space By considering the purpose, size, location, materials, decorative elements, conservatory matching, and lighting, you can create a structure that enhances the natural beauty of your garden and adds functionality to your outdoor living space.

Heroes Among Us: Get to Know Our Extraordinary Team Members

Within an organization, you can often find individuals that leave a lasting impression; that evoke the true culture and unity that breathes life into an organization These individuals radiate joy, curiosity, passion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to excellence In honor of a dear friend and team member that represented all of these and more, with her passing we thought to share a piece of Tanglewood with our community.

Remembering A Dear Friend

If you had the pleasure of working with Kathy who was part of our engineering team, then you have witnessed her kind heart, deep love for art, architecture, design, and her remarkable bond within the Tanglewood family Her passion for her work shined through; piecing together intricate puzzles, simplifying complex concepts, and creating designs that are elegant and robust for our clients was an artform for Kathy

She would embrace the challenges that come with her role, eagerly navigating through obstacles to find innovative solutions. The gratification she felt when witnessing the designs come to life is immeasurable. Every step of the journey, from initial conception to the final product, filled Kathy with a sense of accomplishment and pride. Her dedication and craftsmanship serve as an inspiration to her colleagues, fostering a creative environment where dreams become a reality

We came across a note she published about her experience working at Tanglewood – she wrote:

“I love my job. So, I suppose it’s not even a job, is it?

I put puzzles together, take complicated and make it simple, elegant, strong. It’s intense, and challenging but it’s also immeasurably gratifying when I can take a concept, put it on paper, then see it come to life ”

The Tanglewood Family:

At Tanglewood, something extraordinary happens beyond the exceptional work that is produced The team has cultivated a unique family spirit that nurtures and uplifts each member Kathy was not alone in her passion and commitment; she was surrounded by a group of likeminded individuals who share the same sense of purpose and dedication. This familial bond extends beyond the confines of their roles, creating an atmosphere of support, collaboration, and encouragement.

With a team of over 35, there are a lot of names and faces you will get to meet at various stages of the process. As we work on the shop drawings for your conservatory, you may have the opportunity to work with Duane, one of our lead engineers who has been with our team for over 15 years mastering his craft to transform your conservatory design into a building plan that brings your vision to life Or when you see our truck coming down your driveway to start installing your conservatory, you may be looking to greet our lead construction craftsman, Dennis!

While we could highlight every individual at Tanglewood, we encourage you to get to know our team as you work with them! Their passion and dedication have become ingrained in the fabric of the organization, shaping the company culture and embodying the spirit of creativity, resilience, and collaboration that defines Tanglewood

In loving memory of Kathy and the impact she made on us here at Tanglewood. We will forever be grateful for her and her remarkable journey. Our team's united spirit at Tanglewood reminds us that work can be so much more than a “job.”
