Program 36. ročníku festivalu TANEC PRAHA připravily Yvona Kreuzmannová a Markéta Perroud. Realizaci festivalu v roce 2024 zajišťují Juraj Gerbery, Dušan Matić, Matěj Kubíček, Barbora Doleželová a celý tým Tance Praha. Poděkování patří všem členům týmu, stejně jako účinkujícím umělcům, partnerům festivalu a všem příznivcům tance.
36th International Dance Festival TANEC PRAHA 2024 is held under the auspices of the Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic Mr. Martin Baxa and Mayor of the Capital City of Prague Mr. Bohuslav Svoboda.
The programme of the 36th edition of the TANEC PRAHA festival was prepared by Yvona Kreuzmannová and Markéta Perroud. Juraj Gerbery, Dušan Matić, Matěj Kubíček, Barbora Doleželová and the entire Tanec Praha team are responsible for the realisation of the festival in 2024. Thanks to all the team members, as well as the performing artists, festival partners and all enthusiasts.

Loni oslavil festival 35 let. Letos slavím já, u prvního ročníku v roce 1989 jsem totiž chyběla, pak už ale ani jednou. Je to neuvěřitelná cesta napříč kontinenty – vzrušující, barvitá a stále přinášející nové zážitky i překvapení.
Letos se nám podařilo na Opening festivalu domluvit Liu Rodrigues. Inscenace Encantado získala nominaci na prestižní Rose Prize stejně jako další dílo pozvané na festival: Carcass Marco da Silva Ferreiry. Naši diváci tak mohou vidět hned dvě ze čtyř nominovaných děl. Výherce prestižního ocenění oznámí Sadler’s Wells v únoru 2025.
Jsme spoluzakladatelem sítě evropských festivalů tance
Big Pulse Dance Alliance a dáváme tak prostor společně vybraným umělcům. Jsou jimi nejen Marco da Silva Ferreira, ale také Amala Dianor a v neposlední řadě POCKETART, jejichž Fairy Tales vznikly v koprodukci festivalu TANEC PRAHA a dvou dalších festivalů: Julidans a Sísmograf.
Koprodukcí a tedy premiér má letos festival rekordní počet - pět. Vedle POCKETART podpořil spolupráci našich umělců se zahraničím několika způsoby. Díky Národnímu plánu obnovy navázal na úspěšný brazilsko-český projekt Rotas Afora Flávie Tápias, která si vybrala Jitku Čechovou pro novou produkci Fantasmas. Vedle toho se vrhla Clara da Costa do tvůrčího projektu s Yanou Reutovou, aby uvedly spolu s houslistkou Janou Kubánkovou premiéru open air verze Womanhood. Čtvrtou koprodukcí jsou Okřídlení Jara Viňarského pro účastníky evropského projektu Dance Well, který zapojuje i parkinsoniky. Pátá koprodukce má za sebou výzkum Spitfire Company v Keni a premiéra Vivat Messi se odehraje v největším z prostor letošního festivalu – divadle Hybernia. Zvláště silnou linii tvoří v programu díla pro děti a jejich rodiče. Rock Me Baby je roztančeným koncertem pro batolata a pro všechny, kdo nemají předsudky. Chotto Desh nás vrátí k neuvěřitelným zážitkům z účinkování Akrama Khana na 25. ročníku festivalu. Adaptace DESH pro děti od 7 let objíždí nadále festivaly a divadla po celém světě.
Tanec Praha je i spoluzakladatelem platformy Aerowaves, která již více než 25 let podporuje nejmladší choreografickou generaci napříč Evropou. Letos uvedeme tři vybraná díla s velmi originálními přístupy: When The Bleeding Stops bourá tabu kolem menopauzy, MOS si pohrává se zvukovými efekty skrze pohyb a Birdboy nás přesvědčí o tom, že být jiný a vybočit z řady je OK.
Právě téma jinakosti letošnímu ročníku dominuje, čiší i ze závěrečné inscenace Eriky Zueneli Landfall. Festival se bude po tři festivalové víkendy věnovat i hlubším sondám do rozdílnosti kontinentů a národů, zaměříme se na Severskou Evropu, Brazílii & Afriku a Ukrajinu. Té věnujeme i komorní večer Unity in Motion.
Děkuji celému týmu Tance Praha, partnerům i umělcům, bez nichž bychom nemohli přinášet publiku tak výjimečný a pestrý program, letos celkem ve 23 městech a obcích ČR.

Last year marked the festival’s 35th anniversary. While I missed its inaugural year in 1989, I’ve been present every year since. It’s been an incredible journey spanning continents – full of excitement, vibrancy and continuous discovery, always offering new experiences and surprises.
This year we succeeded in booking Lia Rodrigues for the opening of the festival. The production of Encantado was nominated for the prestigious Rose Prize as was another work invited to the festival, Marco da Silva Ferreira’s Carcass. Our visitors can thus see two of the four nominated works. The winner of the prestigious award will be announced by Sadler’s Wells in February 2025. We are a co-founder of the Big Pulse Dance Alliance network of European dance festivals, giving space to jointly selected artists. These include not only Marco da Silva Ferreira, but also Amala Dianor and POCKETART, whose performance Fairy Tales was co-produced by TANEC PRAHA and two other festivals, Julidans and Sísmograf.
This year, the festival will feature a record number of co-productions and therefore premieres - five. In addition to POCKETART, the festival supported collaboration between our artists and foreign countries in several ways. Thanks to the National Recovery Plan, it followed up on the successful Brazilian-Czech project Rotas Afora by Flávia Tápias, who chose Jitka Čechová for the new production of Fantasmas. In addition, Clara da Costa threw herself into a creative project with Yana Reutova to present the premiere of the open-air version of Womanhood together with violinist Jana Kubánková. The fourth co-production is Jaro Viňarský’s Elevated for the participants of the European Dance Well project, which also involves people with Parkinson’s disease. The fifth co-production by the Spitfire Company was first tested in Kenya, and the premiere of Vivat Messi will take place in the biggest venue of this year’s festival – the Hybernia Theatre.
Works for children and their parents are a particularly strong component of our program. Rock Me Baby is a danceable concert for toddlers and anyone without prejudices. Chotto Desh takes us back to the incredible experiences of Akram Khan’s performance at the 25th anniversary of the festival. The adaptation of DESH for children ages seven and up continues to tour festivals and theatres around the world.
TANEC PRAHA is also a co-founder of the Aerowaves platform, which has been supporting the youngest generation of choreographers across Europe for more than 25 years. This year we will present three selected works, each taking very original approaches. When The Bleeding Stops tackles the taboo surrounding menopause, MOS explores sound effects through movement, and Birdboy celebrates differences and shows that it’s OK to diverge from the norm. Indeed, the topic of otherness dominates this year’s festival, which can also be seen in Erika Zueneli’s final production, Landfall. Over three weekends, the festival will also probe deeper into the differences between continents and nations, focussing on Northern Europe, Brazil, Africa and Ukraine. We also dedicate an evening of chamber works Unity in Motion to Ukraine.
I would like to thank the entire TANEC PRAHA team, partners and artists. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to present such an exceptional and diverse program to audiences, spanning 23 cities and towns across the Czech Republic this year.

Lia Rodrigues je ikonou brazilské taneční scény a my můžeme v Praze vůbec poprvé vstoupit do jejího tajemného a barevného světa. Co se přesně skrývá za slovem „encantado“ je vepsáno v afroamerické kultuře neoddělitelné od přírody. Je živelnou oslavou tradice a života. Je divokou džunglí hemžící se barvami, pohybem a sálající vitální energií.
Lia Rodrigues is an icon of the Brazilian dance scene, and we can enter her mysterious and colourful world for the very first time in Prague. What exactly lies behind the word “encantado” is inscribed in African American culture inseparably from nature. It is a spontaneous celebration of tradition and life, a wild jungle teeming with colour and movement and radiating vital energy.

Fairy Tales je taneční představení se silnou vizuální identitou pro 8 tanečnic za doprovodu živého zpěvu a hudby. V rámci témat ženství a hodnot, které ženská podstata vnáší do našeho světa, se v představení Fairy Tales vracíme do míst našeho dětství. Odhalujeme a ohledáváme procesy, skrze které se stáváme samy sebou. Oblékáme si na sebe různé role, jakoby každá z nich byla jen další hrou. Role, které všichni známe z pohádek i z reálného života. Tvoříme si pro sebe nové fantazie, ve kterých přetváříme naše identity a způsoby jakými si dokážeme představit naše šťastné konce.
Fairy Tales is a dance performance with strong visual identity for 8 female dancers and 2 musicians. Inside the themes of womanhood and the values that femininity brings to our world we are coming back to places of our childhood to reveal the processes of becoming oneself. We are trying on and off different roles, as if it was just another game or another dress. Roles we all know from well known fairy tales or real life figures. We are creating new fantasies for ourselves, reimagining our identities and the way we see our happy endings.

Kupodivu není řeč o headlinerech letních hudebních festivalů, ale o norské taneční inscenaci pro nejmenší diváky a nejen jejich tatínky. Rock Me Baby je zážitek pro celou rodinu, který diváka vyvede z míry, ale zároveň pohladí na duši.
A punk-rock concert, sparkly costumes, spiky hair, frolicsome playfulness and bursts of laughter. It may be a surprise, but these are not headliners at summer music festivals. We are talking about a Norwegian dance show for the little audience and not just their fathers. Rock Me Baby is a family experience that puts you out of countenance and warms the cockles of your heart at the same time.

Autorka se otevřeně zabývá jedním z četných tabu dnešní společnosti: menopauza je téma, o němž se nemluví. Lovísa nás zve do světa plného zranitelnosti, studu, ale také velké empatie a humoru. Vychází z mnohovrstevnatých zkušeností žen, které zapojuje do představení. Především jde ale o taneční oslavu života a těla ve všech fázích.
The creator of the performance openly tackles one of the many taboos in today’s society: menopause. This topic is seldom discussed, and Lovísa invites us into a world full of vulnerability, shame, but also tremendous empathy and humor. The performance draws on the multi-layered experiences of women, incorporating them into the narrative. Above all, it is a dance celebration of life and the body in all its phases.

Don’t take yourself too seriously is what the female protagonists of the show Womanhood want to share with the world. Through dance, they celebrate diversity, but also promote a sense of unity and empowerment of women around the world. Through the fusion of different cultural backgrounds, personal experiences and artistic influences, they strive to create a performance that transcends gender boundaries and resonates across audiences.

Elevated is a metaphor for the human spirit‘s ability to overcome limitations and elevate itself to a state of resilient fragility. Every young African woman bears a special burden that accompanies her to the end of her life. Mai Júli Machado addresses this cultural and social burden in her solo Sinais Particulares. It draws attention to the unequal status of African women through raw and deeply emotional dance.

V energickém přístupu ke všem různým formám tance, které byly součástí cesty původem senegalského tanečníka a choreografa, zkoumá Amala Dianor mnohočetné já, části sebe sama, které postupně a neúprosně odhaluje. Man Rec znamená ve wolofštině (nigersko-konžský jazyk hojně rozšířený v Senegalu) „jen já“ – jeden tanečník zůstává sám na jevišti, aby čelil sám sobě i divákovi.

The starting point for the solo Man Rec is the idea of the individual’s complex nature, his identity and his relationship to others and to society. Taking a vigorous approach to all the different forms of dance that have been part of the Senegalese dancer and choreographer’s journey, Amala Dianor explores multiple selves, gradually and relentlessly revealing parts of himself. Man Rec means “just me” in Wolof (a Niger-Congo language widely spoken in Senegal). One dancer alone on stage to face himself and the audience.

In 2018, Dianor met the young dancer Nangaline Gomis, who inspired him to later adapt the famous solo Man Rec. Wo-Man is a sequel, another perspective that offers a different tension, vitality and power. Wo-Man is the female version of “just me”, bringing more diverse cultural influences to the original masterpiece.

Inspirací pro „Paradoxical Bodies“ byl původní duet „Endless Talks” s Ladjim Konem (BF), kde se Yana rozhodla přenést ženský princip za hranice energie muže a ženy a propojit tak dvě odlišné kultury. Nový duet s Nikou Horiachou zobrazuje dvě zcela odlišné povahy a prožitky: endorfin a adrenalin. Přestože jsou obě ženy v souladu, mohou být zároveň velmi odlišné.
In the realm of the human body’s intricate essence,adrenaline and endorphins take center stage, harmonizing to define our physiological and emotional crescendos. They are the protagonists of an ongoing drama within us, where the balance and interplay between these two hormones are essential. The inspiration for “Paradoxical Bodies” was the original duet “Endless Talks” with Ladji Kone (BF), where Yana decided to take the feminine principle beyond the energy of man and woman, connecting two different cultures. The new duet with Nika Horiacha portrays two completely different characters and experiences: endorphin and adrenaline. Even though the two women are in harmony, they can be so different.

Inscenace Landfall je oslavou jinakosti. Erika Zueneli oslovila 10 performerů*ek dle osobitosti pohybu, vzhledu i myšlení, aby vnesli na scénu gejzír nápadů, který diváka pohltí. A také dodá důvěru ve vlastní jedinečnost.
Deset mladých tanečníků a tanečnic, všichni na samém začátku svých kariér, otevírají skrze dynamický, rytmický a živelný tanec otázky týkající se našeho světa a budoucnosti. Co máme dělat? Jací chceme být? Jak můžeme dosáhnout absolutní volnosti?
Landfall is a celebration of diversity. Erika Zueneli has approached 10 performers, selected for their unique movement, appearance, and thought processes, to bring a geyser of ideas to the stage that will engulf the audience. It also aims to instill confidence in one‘s own uniqueness. Through their dynamic, rhythmical, and unrestrained dance, ten young performers at the outset of their careers open up questions related to our world and future. What shall we do? What kind of people do we want to become? How can we reach ultimate freedom?

The 42+PEOPLE project of the contemporary dance company 420PEOPLE celebrates the intergenerational dialogue of dancers. It brings a unique and intimate look at the peak of the performers’ dance careers after 42 years. A performance of WHERE brings together all the values of contemporary dance. Choreographed by a pair of Czech dancers aged 42+. Václav Kuneš and Helena Arenbergerová, who won the Thalia Award 2023 for her solo role in the performance, opened the pilot edition.

Sólo pro galerii je performance, kterou je možné pozorovat z jakékoliv vzdálenosti. Jde o taneční sólo, jenž je „sochařstvím“ v čase, je to hra s detaily, pozorností ale i neustálou proměnou a imaginací. Diváci zažijí taneční dialog mezi vystavenými díly, prostorem a tanečnicí Terezou Ondrovou. Na začátku této nové taneční kresby je soustředěné pozorování jevů či situaci v jejím okolí, ale i uvnitř jí samotné, aby jí tak bylo umožněno vstřebat to podstatné. Vzniká umělecké dílo svou fyzickou realizací nebo již ve chvíli, kdy je mentálně počato – pouhým nápadem?
Solo for gallery is a performance that can be observed from any distance. It is a dance solo that is a “sculpture” in time, a play with details, attention but also constant transformation and imagination. The audience will experience a dance dialogue between the exhibited works, the space and the dancer Tereza Ondrová. At the beginning of this new dance drawing, there is a concentrated observation of phenomena or situations in her surroundings, but also within herself, in order to allow her to absorb what is essential. Does a work of art come into being through its physical realization or already at the moment it is mentally conceived - by a mere idea?

Naše Země je plná světů ve světech. Každý z těchto mikrosvětů žije svým jedinečným životem. Inscenace prostřednictvím mikropohybů, krajiny těla a hry s malými objekty zaostřuje naši pozornost na maličkosti, které často nejsou na první pohled vidět. Hravá a poetická inscenace prozkoumává křehkost naší existence. Pohybově-objektová inscenace Mikrosvěty zaměřuje pozornost mladých diváků na drobné věci a detaily kolem sebe, zjemňuje jejich vnímání, trénuje jejich všímavost a soustředěnost a učí je pohrát si s minimem prostředků. Inscenace obdržela hlavní ocenění a Cenu diváka na České taneční platformě 2023.
Our Earth is full of worlds within worlds. Each of these microworlds lives its own unique life. Through micro-movements, body landscape and a play with small objects the performance focuses our attention on little things that are often overlooked in plain sight. The playful and poetic performance explores the fragility of our existence. The movement and object performance Microworlds focuses young audience’s attention on the small things and details around them, refines their perception, trains their attentiveness and concentration, and teaches them to play with a minimum of resources. The performance received the 2023 Czech Dance Platform Main Award and Audience Award.

TETSU je taneční kvintet, který vznikl v úzkém propojení s hudební kompozicí. Struktura celého díla je inspirovaná čínským systémem wuxing, který prostřednictvím pěti fází či elementů vysvětluje fungování všeho, od vesmíru, přírody až po samotný a jedinečný život člověka. Na TETSU lze nahlížet jako na živly, do kterých se můžeme zadívat a nechat se unášet jejich spontáností a různorodou pulzací. Možná si po chvíli diváci všimnou, jak se všichni, spolu s tanečníky, jemně pohybují ve společném rytmu. TETSU je především oslavou životní energie a pohybu. Je energií, která nás tvaruje. TETSU je železem, které kuje pět tančících těl v atmosféře měnících se dynamických, tonických a rytmických fází hudby.
A dance quintet, which was formed in close connection with its musical composition. It is possible to see TETSU as the fire we all sit around, dance around, live around. We can watch its flickering flames, connect through them with the archetypes of humanity or with our personal memories. Staring at the fire, after a while we might notice that we are all gently moving in the rhythm of the music, of our shared heartbeats. Above all, TETSU is a celebration of life, energy and movement. TETSU is The Energy That Shapes Us.

„Taxon“ je označení skupiny konkrétních organismů, které mají společné znaky. Nový taxon vyhodnocuje, zda-li je výhodnější se naučit žít s novým tělem, či se ho naopak zbavit. Mutující tělo, které se teprve učí chodit, nezná své možnosti. Sledujeme proces proměny, tělo se proměňuje jako open source kód. Nový tvor je uzamčen v limitech důsledku svého vývoje a pomalu si podmaňuje protézy, která mu „příroda“ nadělila. Prozatím se umí hledané vertikality jen dotknout.
A “taxon” is a designation for a group of specific organisms that have common specifications. A new taxon evaluates whether or not it is an advantage to learn to live with a new body or to get rid of it. Its mutating body, which is just learning to walk, does not know its possibilities. We follow the process of transformation, as if the body transforms like an open source code. The new creature is locked within the limits of its development and slowly subdues the prostheses that “nature” has given it. For now, it can only touch the verticality.

Zanechali je na nás jiní, na povrchu, ale i uvnitř, jako letmé důkazy prožité blízkosti. Tato neviditelná spojení vytváříme každý den, jsme jejich nositeli, ať už bezděčně nebo z vlastní vůle.
Fingerprints, a tangle of inconspicuous lines, hiding our uniqueness and genetic heritage. Invisible traces, unconsciously left in our surroundings, on things and people. We are covered by them too. Others have left them on us, on the surface, but also inside, as fleeting evidence of an experienced closeness. We create these invisible connections every day; we are the bearers of them, either unwittingly or by our own will.

As part of the Dance Well international project, Tanec Praha organizes regular dance meetings intended for people with Parkinson’s disease or other movement limitations as well as for the general public. The lessons are for everyone interested in self-care and social cohesion.

Jaro Viňarský se stane živou součástí večerní verze scénické architektury vytvořené slovenským architektem Tomášem Hubinským, aby tancem povznesl sebe sama a náhodné pozorovatele do stavu odolné křehkosti.
K vytvoření této performativní instalace došlo spontánně v průběhu zkoušení s tanečníky a tanečnicemi Dance Well na durativní choreografickou událost s názvem Okřídlení. (viz strana 20)
Jaro Viňarský will become a live part of the evening version of the scenic architecture created by Slovak architect Tomáš Hubinský, to elevate himself and the bystanders to a state of resilient fragility through dance. The creation of this performative installation came about spontaneously during rehearsals with the dancers of Dance Well for a durational choreographic event called Elevated. (see page 20)

This time, the movement workshop, beadwork, painting, ceramics and batik will be enhanced by African drumming led by Tomáš Kerle. Tadeáš Šíma invites us on a bike ride across Africa, accompanied by Afro music rhythms to set the mood for an evening at PONEC featuring solos by Mai Juli and Amala Dianor. Before heading back to Paris, where he‘s already gearing up for the opening of the Olympic Games, Dianor will also conduct a workshop for professionals.

Tradice a artefakty této země přiblíží Maria Prokopjuk, mladé hudební duo Emily a Zůza doplní příjemnou atmosféru sobotním koncertem.
Friday evening at PONEC will showcase four young artists from Ukraine, with some of them leading us through the Saturday Dance Play workshop. This time, the graphics and final photography workshop will be enhanced by the presence of Karel Cudlín, a renowned reportage and documentary photographer, who will transport us to the Ukrainian countryside of the 1990s. Maria Prokopjuk will introduce us to the traditions and artifacts of this country, while the young musical duo Emily and Zůza will enrich the pleasant atmosphere with a Saturday concert.

e festival is organized by Tanec Praha, one of the first independent non-profit NGOs in the Czech Republic. For more than 30 years it has been supporting dialogue between the Czech and international contemporary dance scenes.
Tanec Praha brings exceptional artistic experiences to the public thanks to the organization and development of the TANEC PRAHA festival, the Czech Dance Platform and year-round activities of the PONEC – dance venue including community work of artists and their international cooperation.
