From Experimentation to Documentation
What were your challenges in documenting your investigation with words only?
As a worded description, it could do a lot. We’re giving context to what’s happening and documenting details that a literate person could read and fully contextualize your investigation in their mind, albeit to some certain extent, as maybe what one would think as one thing might be another in someone else’s mind.

What were your challenges in documenting your investigation with line drawings only?
With little understanding to how line drawing works at that time, it was definitely a challenge to convey things the right way as there’s a language to these lines and it should be followed to communicate things well to an audience.

The next three page is my first set of poster iteration during week 2-3. The first poster was simple, it was just me retelling the story then summarizing the part where I took as inspiration for my model. T0 add interest, I added a backdrop of semi transparent paragraphs that is of another take away from the story that didn’t make it. The font here is as ChatGPT recommended and that’s the Garamond and Georgia combination with a Khmer language font in an historical angkorian style as a design choice and a nod to the story’s origin.

The reference page is filled with Midjourney images and some internet sourced images to describe the story furthur. The backdrop are of other Midjouney images that doesn’t have anything to do with the myth overlayed with a dark blue colour as a nod to the sea goddess.
I was confused with what diagramming should be and I came up with this rather amateur poster design which will be furthur iterated upon.

The tale tells of a hermit, Lok Ta Moni Eysei, who had three students under his care, a sea goddess, Moni Mekhala, a storm demon, Ream Eyso and a princely manifestation of the Earth, Vorachhun. The hermit one day wanted to gift one of his students a powerful gift and so he devised a challenge for them to collect a full jar of morning dew. While Ream Eyso and Vorachhun went into the forest collecting a much as they could, Moni Mekhala left her shawl to hang and overnight it had collected a glass jar full and so she won. The hermit was proud of all his student and so bestowed a diamond axe for Ream Eyso, a magic dagger for Vorachhun and finally a powerful crystal ball for Moni Mekhala. Ream Eyso, filled with envy, demanded Moni Mekhala for the crystal ball, but she declined and flew off to her palace. Ream Eyso decides to pursue her but before then kills off Vorachhun as he might be an obstacle. Ream Eyso and Moni Mekhala then engaged in battle, the axe he threw cut through the clouds which burst out rain, that healed Vorachhun, while the crystal ball Moni Mekhala threw created sparks of lighting and thunder. Before long Ream Eyso was exhausted and weakened, however Moni Mekhala decides to forgive him and flew off, but by time Ream Eyso regains his strength and continues to pursue Moni Mekhala and the battles stretches on just as the rain and thunder does as well.

A nectar of immortality | While in battle Ream Eyso chases Moni Mekhala in pursuit of the magic crystal ball. He threw his diamond axe, spliting the clouds releasing rain. Vorachhun who laid dead from Ream Eyso’s hand before had suddenly regained life, skin adorn in gold, sparkling just like the stretches of rice fields before its harvest.

Collision Ressurection
Noun. the action or fact of resurrecting or being resurrected | Vorachhun was brought back to life by the rain fall caused by the Battle.

Story Diagramming_Initial Sketches
Initially I wanted to diagram it with more pictures to describe what is happening during each events but since it doesn’t have any use of the gansterer line, I had to alter it to fit with what was asked.

Poster_Iteration 2
I’ve iterated upon Poster 02. | 03. The References poster was dulled down to ensure consistency and I’ve added upon it with some more midjourney images so that we have a clear picture of who Moni Mekhala and Ream Eyso is.
The Diagram poster was also another experimentation as I still wasn’t sure what diagramming was and so I filled the posters with icons with most of the same storylines and no background. I’ve then iterated upon that with a variation that’s a toned down version of my first iteration but with portrait for each main characters, no backdrop to distract from the diagram but still keeping that cycle analogy of the diagram.
Moni Mekhala
The sea goddess who won the hermit’s morning dew collection challenge was bestowed a magic crystal ball, not like any other
The Battle
Ream Eyso pursue Moni Mekhala for the magic crystal ball that he believes was rightfully his
Ream Eyso
The storm demon was bestowed a diamond axe, transformed from his collected morning dew, eventhough he lost the hermit’s challenge
Cloud Split
With each throw the diamond axe split through the clouds
Lightning
Flashes of lightning came out of the magic crystal ball, blinding and weakening the storm demon
Rain
Caused by the splitting of the clouds during the battle
Thunder
The storm demon’s diamond axe produces roaring thunder with each throw and strike
Nectar of Life
The rain had regenerative properties
Vorachhun
The dead princely manifestation of the earth was resurrected with glittering gold skin like fields of ripen crops
Moni Mekhala
The Sea Goddess
Won the dew collecting competition administered by the strong hermit and got the magic crystal ball.
At odds with one another because of the magic crystal ball
Both students of the hermit, close to one another that Vorachhun would trade his life to protect Moni Mekhala
The battle for the crystal ball
Ream Eyso
The Storm Demon
Lost the competition, became envious of Moni Mekhala even though he was bestowed a diamond axe by the hermit, chased down Moni Mekhala through the clouds in pursuit of the crystal ball.
While both had no quams with one another Vorachhun would’ve become an obstacle to Ream Eyso if he tried to pursue Moni Mekhala
Poster_Final Iteration
Due to time constraints, not too much was altered, except for the diagram poster which has a clearer time frame of events and more lines to show different aspect of the story.
Vorachhun
The Princely Manifestation of the Earth
Also didn’t win the competition but was bestowed a magic dagger but since he has a good heart, he was killed by Ream Eyso before persuing Moni Mekhala
Noun. the act of colliding; a coming violently into contact; crash | The Battle of Moni Mekhala and Ream Eyso.

Never Ending Flow

The apparadus I’ve chosen to represent my story is a mix of Bone and Skin Machanism, where the bone is the Cranks Machine without the motor instead replaced with a manual hand crank. The skin is a variation of the Flasher origami opening from a hexagon into a semi flower shape then closing up again.

Since Moni Mekhala has demonstrated that she is stronger than Ream Eyso while also forgiving of his wrong-doings as per her teacher, the powerful hermit’s teaching, the battle is an everlasting cycles that never stop.
How can architecture communicate emotively with its occupants?
Human are capable of many emotions and would have had many triggers that pushes them to the surface. We can effectively try to push those triggers through design choices such as colours to evoke certain feelings, lighting fixtures or clever way to manipulate natural light, organization of spaces or furniture, materials that can speak to people’s touch and visuals and many others.
