Here at Mwldan, we’ve been busy brainstorming new ideas for the forthcoming year. Putting on our creative thinking caps is one thing, but we’d really love to hear the views of our customers.We’ll be conducting some surveys both front of house and online over the coming months, so please help us make your experience better by telling us what you think.

Theatr Mwldan’s Annual General Meeting is coming up on Wednesday 4th November. If you’re interested in becoming a member of Theatr Mwldan, please see page 41 for further details.

As a new feature, listed on page 22 you’ll find a timetable of all the regular classes, meetings and rehearsals that take place in the Mwldan 3 Studio space. There’s T’ai Chi,Yoga, Pilates and community theatre as well as painting and drawing classes on offer.

MABON For the past few years these high octane festival favourites from Wales have been fizzing, frothing and fermenting into the intoxicatingly heady brew they are today.

Shades of Shooglenifty and Peatbog Faeries there may be but Mabon’s music is self styled, singular and toe-tappingly good – an insatiable blend of world music, Celtic roots and rabble rousing funk folk.

Led by the indecently talented accordionist and tunes meister Jamie Smith, this six-piece band also features Young Scottish Musician of the Year finalist Calum Stewart on wooden flute and Ruth Angell (Rainbow Chasers, Lark Rise Band) on fiddle.

Freewheeling through a frenzied repertoire of feelgood tunes, the band is also capable of slowing down the tempo for mellower, moving numbers.

This trio, featuring the beautiful voice and violin playing of Tcha Limberger, showcases soaring Gypsy laments, compelling czardas’ and breakneck szaporas from a small area of Transylvania called Kalotaszeg, where Hungarian, Romanian and Gypsy cultures rub shoulders.

This very old, very local style is deeply connected to the lives of the people who live there, and considered to be the most beautiful of all Hungarian music. Tcha is joined by the most authentic and highly regarded rhythm sections of modern times, Berki Viktor on bass and Toni Rudi on brac, accompanists of the great Neti Sandor for many years. At only 31, Tcha Limberger hails from a famous family of Manouche gypsy musicians and has become recognised as one of the most prominent and important figures in the folk music of the Carpathian Basin.We welcome him back to Mwldan following his astounding, virtuosic performance here with the Budapest Gypsy Orchestra in 2008.

He last appeared at Theatr Mwldan in 2008 giving a stunning performance as the soloist in Mozart’s Piano Concerto in A, K 414, with the Emerald Ensemble. Critically described as one of the most formidable talents to emerge in recent years, Roger Owens has established himself as one of the most versatile of pianists.

He is well known for his performances of the larger scale solo concertos in the major musical centres of the United Kingdom playing works by Mozart, Beethoven, Grieg, Schumann, Gershwin, Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky. He has appeared regularly with eminent orchestras including the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Roger is a skilled communicator whose engaging personality makes him a popular visitor to music societies throughout the British Isles.

Described by John Peel as ‘... one of the five or six great voices of our time,’ Dick Gaughan’s wonderfully expressive voice is allied to a dazzling guitar technique thought by many to be one of the best in the world. Gaughan is well known for his forthright political views. He gives voice to an uncompromising solidarity with the flotsam and jetsam of tunnel-vision global capitalism: the victims, the helpless, the wronged, the fighters, the brawny working-class bravehearts who made capitalism work (after a fashion).

Brought up immersed in the musical traditions and culture of the Gaels, both Scots and Irish, as a professional musician Gaughan has been at the cutting edge of Scottish music for almost four decades. He was an early member of the Boys of the Lough, was with the now-legendary Scottish folk-rock band Five Hand Reel and in the 1990’s he founded and produced the short-lived but quite extraordinary ensemble Clan Alba.

PUSS IN BOOTS Cardigan Theatre present their annual Christmas show. Puss in Boots is a traditional British pantomime written by a collaboration of three playwrights known as TLC Creations.

All the traditional elements of a panto are here - a principal boy, a voluptuous dame and a struggle between good and evil. There are lots of jokes, a bit of slapstick and, as a bonus, a rather mischievous talking cat.

Jack the miller’s son has been left with just the family cat in his father’s will and although he has great ambitions, it is unlikely he will amount to much! Things soon change with the arrival of his Auntie Hettie and the revelation that Puss can talk and looks pretty fetching in a pair of boots! Soon Jack, Auntie and Puss are embroiled in a complex scheme to persuade the King and Queen that Jack (masquerading as the Marquis of Carabas) is suitable husband material for the beautiful Princess. But first they will have to contend with a jealous noble suitor, a pair of dastardly henchmen and a hideous shape-shifting Ogre!

He has appeared as concerto soloist with the Liverpool Mozart Orchestra and has given recitals at music clubs across the UK. Hiroaki Takenouchi, his regular pianist, was born in Japan but is now based in London.With wide interests that embrace core repertoire as well as contemporary and less well known composers, he has appeared on many concert platforms both as chamber musician and accompanist in many parts of the world.

His debut recording of solo cello works by Kodaly, Britten and Roxburgh is due for release in 2009, the first in his ongoing partnership with the Landor label. He has accumulated a plethora of awards and as a Park Lane Group artist has performed at the Purcell Room and Wigmore Hall; other UK venues include Cadogan Hall and the Bridgewater Hall.

Sophia Rahmann’s work has encompassed a wide range of solo and chamber music. EMMA CAMERON - A SENSE OF BEING Emma Cameron’s paintings have been the subject of articles both by academics and celebrities such as Griff Rhys-Jones and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen. Her paintings show human figures emerging out of abstract grounds that represent imaginative worlds of mystery and mythology in classical poses made from observation and defined by the suggestion of outline. Although she is originally from the Scottish Highlands, Cameron’s mother, the artist Tessa Spencer Pryse is Welsh, as was her grandfather, the late artist Gerald Spencer Pryse.
