GREETINGS FROM TAMARACK
SCOTT TURLINGTON – PRESIDENT TAMARACK RESORT AND DESIGNATED BROKER TAMARACK REALTY

The summer season is officially here and we couldn’t be more excited. We have much to celebrate this summer with new amenities and growth over the past few months: a brand-new 69,500 square foot Event and Social Lawn at Osprey Meadows, a brand-new 89,000 square foot Amphitheater on Tamarack’s “ski beach”, and the 2024 Tamarack Summer Concert Series featuring 20 concerts every Saturday from June 1st - September 28th. Additionally, we have received recognition from the Wall Street Journal as one of the “Best Ski Resorts in North America,” and USA Today’s “Top 10 Ski Restaurants.” These outstanding honors are a testament to the continuous desire to deliver quality experiences and an abundant lifestyle to our homeowners, members, and guests. With that in mind, I wanted to share the latest updates on some of our bigger projects—projects that will further solidify Tamarack as America’s only ski, golf, and lake resort. Here are a few highlights:
MARINA UPDATE: The waterfront opened May 25 and it should be a great season for swimmers, boaters, anglers, paddleboarders, and more. As for the Marina, we are working diligently with the federal government and anticipate that construction will begin this fall. The goal is to be finished before winter. The Marina will include 66 boat slips, an on-water fueling station, and enhanced upland amenities. For this summer, Tamarack will continue with the same waterfront operations as in the past. This will include motorized and non-motorized rentals for boats, kayaks, and SUPs. And I want to extend a big thank you to everyone who wrote letters of support for the Marina.
OSPREY MEADOWS GOLF
COURSE:
The first nine holes re-opened for play on May 25! And the course is in peak condition for the season. We’re aiming for the Grand Opening of all 18 holes on July 5, 2024. This will certainly be one of the finest championship golf courses in the region, offering both challenges and accessibility for all level of golfers. Until July, the nine holes that are now open present a fun and challenging round for golfers of all levels. We can’t wait to see you out on the course enjoying the stunning views and challenging terrain.
MID-MOUNTAIN LODGE: We’re aiming for a December Grand opening. Construction progress is moving along steadily and we are right on schedule. This new amenity will be an on-mountain social hub for families and friends—a great place to warm up, grab a bite to eat, and take a breather before hitting the slopes again. The panoramic views are going to be incredible: of The Village and golf course, Lake Cascade and Long Valley. We envision the Mid-Mountain Lodge to be the backdrop to many memorable events and celebrations.
Tamarack has the perfect home for you—whether that’s a move-in ready home along the golf course or in The Village, a custom estate home, a mountain-modern villa, or a resale property. Our real estate team will help you find exactly what you’re looking for and are available to answer your questions and provide information.
See you soon!

TEAM PROFILE:
Q & A WITH TAMARACK RESORT DESIGN COMMITTEE’S WAYNE RUEMMELE, EPIKOS DESIGN

One of the often overlooked, yet key, functions within Tamarack is provided by the Design Review Committee. This small group oversees and approves any and all home plans and architectural designs prior to building. We recently spoke to Committee Design Review Coordinator, Wayne Ruemmele. Here’s what he had to say.
Q: SO HOW DOES THE DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE WORK? DOES IT START WITH YOU?
WAYNE: Typically, yes. A prospective buyer submits an architectural home drawing to be reviewed, and I lead them through the process of getting the plan approved. That often requires having a conference on-site with the owner and architect, to walk through all the details and specifics of the home plan and how it fits or integrates with Tamarack as a whole. A big reason for the Committee is to control quality and aesthetic standards at Tamarack.
Q: HOW DOES THE DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE WORK?
WAYNE: There are five members, plus me, who are tasked with getting new home plans and drawings approved, according to Tamarack’s Design Review Guidelines. There are many aspects to building a home in Tamarack that requires guidance and experience. And contrary to what many believe about Design Review Committees, in general, we are not here to say ‘no’ or shoot down someone’s vision. Rather, we serve as a resource to ensure that each person’s home is built to given codes and standards that are necessary in a fourseason mountain resort. We are an expediter.
Q: IT SOUNDS LIKE THERE IS A LOT INVOLVED.
WAYNE: There is. Building a home is a big deal, a big investment. And building that home in a master-planned resort community carries with it lots of nuances and variables that many new buyers aren’t aware of. For instance, some people who move here have never experienced an Idaho winter. There can be six feet of snow on the roof. We make sure they understand that and that their home is built to accommodate or withstand that kind of extreme weather. We also look at each lot differently, to make sure the house being built will be an optimal fit—both for the owners and the community at large.
Q: IT SOUNDS LIKE THIS IS VERY MUCH A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT. IS THAT TRUE?
WAYNE: It is, absolutely. We get all the parties involved at the outset—the owners, architect, builder, and our committee members. We want this to be as efficient and painless as possible, so we guide each family or individual through a collaborative process that is designed to provide key information so the buyer can make good choices regarding their home. And through collaboration we can keep the process moving quickly. We don’t want this to be a long, drawn-out process, rather, we want to help people get from A to B as quickly so they can enjoy their new dream home. Again, it’s all about ensuring quality and aesthetic appeal for each home…and keeping an eye on the larger community to make sure everything is fits and works together as a whole.
“IN GENERAL, WE ARE NOT HERE TO SAY ‘NO’ OR SHOOT DOWN SOMEONE’S VISION. RATHER, WE SERVE AS A RESOURCE TO ENSURE THAT EACH PERSON’S HOME IS BUILT TO GIVEN CODES AND STANDARDS NECESSARY IN A FOUR-SEASON MOUNTAIN RESORT.”

SOCIAL GREEN
GATHER ON THE GREEN
We’re excited to announce the opening of our new Social Green, located directly behind The Lodge at Osprey Meadows. This 22,000-square-foot putting green is a place to gather, play, socialize, and compete in some fun golf events. Set up for preround practice sessions, this large, well-maintained area is ideal for families who want to get the kids outside (and off their phones!) to enjoy the game of golf. “This is a brand new amenity for residents and members,” says Dustin Simons, Director of Golf. “We have developed programming and events for the space, such as weekly putting competitions and small social gatherings where people can have a drink, putt around the green, and socialize with other members and guests. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
EVENT LAWN
Don’t forget about the Event Lawn, located near the Social Green. Covering 69,500 square feet, with 4,050 square feet shaded by Sun Shade Sails for UV protection and privacy. This is a fantastic venue for outdoor weddings, concerts, and other social gatherings.

HOMEOWNER PROFILE: CRISTY NICKEL

Meet Cristy “Code Red” Nickel…professional boxer, author, health and wellness expert, and the owner of Code Red Fitness & Nutrition. She is also a Tamarack homeowner, lured by the gorgeous Alpine setting, outdoor recreation, resort-style amenities, and mainly, getting out on the trails throughout: spring, summer, fall, and winter. “Also,” Cristy says, “I love sleeping at my cabin and waking up there. It’s so quiet and cold. I sleep like a rock and the mornings are magical in front of my fireplace. It’s so quiet and calm. The coffee even tastes better at my cabin.” We spoke with Cristy at length recently, here’s what she has to say about her Tamarack experience.
Q: WHERE ARE YOU FROM AND WHERE HAVE YOU LIVED MOST RECENTLY?
CRISTY: I’m from a small town five hours north of Tamarack called Orofino. My dad was the sheriff and our local minister during my childhood. We grew up on a big ranch and I moved away when I graduated high school and traveled all over the world. Being from a small town, I knew the world had more to offer and I wanted to see what was out there. I also knew that someday I would return to Idaho. I finally did return in 2009 and put down roots in Boise. I’m an Idaho girl through and through—powered by potatoes! I love this state more than anything and will protect our values, beliefs, and way of life. Being from Idaho is a huge sense of pride for me.
Q: WHEN DID YOU FIRST HEAR ABOUT TAMARACK AND WHEN DID YOU FIRST VISIT?
CRISTY: When I was married. We explored different options, like spending winters in Arizona. He was retired but I was still running my company so we needed to find a place and a plan that would fit both of our lives. He discovered Tamarack one day while searching online. We both knew about Tamarack from back when it first exploded in 2005 but the time wasn’t right for us. Eventually, we decided to check it out again a decade later.
Q: WHEN AND WHERE DID YOU BUY WITHIN TAMARACK?
CRISTY: It was July 2015 and I remember it like it was yesterday. We drove into Tamarack and fell immediately in love with the place. We absolutely loved it and knew we had found our home. The first place we bought was a townhome over off Clearwater Ct. We quickly grew out of that and bought a chalet off Discovery. My ex still owns it. Then I bought my own place in Jan 2022: a cottage in Rock Creek. That’s where my dog and I go every Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. But I’m selling it and downsizing into a condo in the Village. It might sound funny, but the cottage is too big for a girl and her dog. So, the condo will work great. I’m a minimalist and I don’t want more than I need.

Q: WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT TAMARACK? WHAT ACTIVITIES DO YOU LIKE THE MOST (SEASONALLY)?
CRISTY: I love, love, love being out on the trails, any time of the year. You can’t keep me off the trails. The woods, trees, dirt, snow, mud, ice, rain, all of it, is my refuge. I like to get out at daybreak, walk past the houses, then let my dog run. We both love to run or walk or hike. I can feel the stress, strain, and pressure lift off of me as I get deeper into the mountains. The smell, the sounds, the colors all heal my soul. I need those trails. I’ve also done a lot of mountain biking over the past nine years here.
Q: YES, THE HIKING AT TAMARACK IS FANTASTIC, ESPECIALLY GIVEN THE FOUR DISTINCT SEASONS. WHAT ELSE ARE YOU FOND OF AT TAMARACK?
CRISTY: I also like the hustle and bustle of the Village. It’s like a little snow globe. I enjoy wandering around and watching the people. I love when visitors and guests come to enjoy our resort. It makes me happy to see folks having fun there. There is so much positive, fun energy here. I have no doubt that Tamarack is going to be recognized as one of the top resorts in the nation sooner rather than later.
Q: WHEN YOU BREAK IT ALL DOWN, WHAT MAKES TAMARACK SO SPECIAL TO YOU?
CRISTY: I like that it is growing and so many others are discovering Tamarack. There’s a buzz out there. Our little oasis is becoming well-known all over the country and people are moving here. I am happy to share my piece of heaven with others. I found that many people here feel the same, but we also like the serenity and peace of being in a low-density outdoor mountain community. So, we’re all respectful, kind, and thoughtful of that. We all seem to want the same thing, essentially: a place to escape and enjoy nature throughout the year. And that makes me happy. I’m glad to share Tamarack with other nature-loving people like me.

1. WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT LIVING HERE IN TAMARACK RESORT?
That is easy, it is the beauty of the area. I have traveled extensively to mountain areas but this is the first time I have lived in the mountains. It has been great, because each day there is a new or different aspect of the beautiful area that I experience.
2. WHERE WOULD WE FIND YOUR FAVORITE VIEW POINT IN TAMARACK?
I walk the property 4 or 5 times a week and there is a spot about halfway up the mountain that is great. It provides an incredible view looking South of the village, Lake Cascade and all the way down the valley, but it also provides a great view up the mountain. You get to the best of all the views on the mountain.
3. IN THREE SENTENCES OR LESS TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF. Early on in my life I decided that I wanted to travel and to live in beautiful spots, by choosing resort real estate as a career I have been able to achieve this. Over the years, I have lived in
CRAIG DALH
Maui, Mexico, The Caribbean, Newport Beach and Scottsdale. It is great to add Tamarack to my list of beautiful spots that I have lived.
4. WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR ANYONE LOOKING TO SELL OR BUY RIGHT NOW?
The short answer would be, do what is right for you and your family. One of the great aspects of selling at a resort like Tamarack is that it is mostly about lifestyle, enjoying life and creating great family memories. Who doesn’t want more of that?
5. IF YOU WON THE LOTTERY, WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU WOULD DO?
Unlike some people you hear about winning the lottery, the first thing I would do is quit working. Then I would invest in some great real estate for the long term. Then I would travel, I still have a few travel goals I would like to enjoy.
6. DONNELLY IS KNOWN AS THE CROSSROADS TO RECREATION, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO RECREATE?
I am new to the area but one of the draws for me was playing on the Lake. I grew up with a 2nd home on the Colorado River and I have lived most of my life, near or around water. I am looking forward to enjoying all the recreation the area offers but playing on the Lake will be my favorite.
7. IN YOUR OPINION WHAT’S THE COOLEST DESIGN TREND YOU ARE SEEING IN HOMES TODAY?
I am a contemporary architecture guy for sure and I have seen a few homes in Tamarack that I would call Mountain Contemporary. I love being able to have large expansive windows to take advantage of the views. I just think it looks clean and sexy.
8. IF YOU HAD TO EAT ONE MEAL, EVERY DAY FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Well first of all, I hope that is never the case as I love variety and I love food. If I had to choose one, it would be Sushi, there is a great deal of variety in the different types of preparations and the varieties of fish. It is also a fairly healthy choice.
9. LASTLY, WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT WORKING IN REAL ESTATE?
That is a simple answer, it is the people I have met over the years. Selling Resort real estate, like at Tamarack allows you to meet some pretty great people with all different stories and backgrounds. It is great to learn their personal stories and help them achieve some of the real estate dreams and goals.
