Q & A WITH DIRECTOR OF AGRONOMY, SEAN PARSONS

If you’ve ever spent some time with Sean Parsons, you’ll realize what a delight it is to speak with him. He’s knowledgeable, funny, quick, and just a good guy. He’s also a master of soil and land management, which keeps him plenty busy at Tamarack Resort. As the Director of Agronomy, he fulfills a big role, making sure the Osprey Meadows Golf Course is properly maintained to accentuate not only it’s playability, but it’s sheer beauty. It would be hard to find a mountain course more impressive— harder still to find someone like Sean to ensure it stays in tip-top shape.
Q: I’M NOT SURE I’VE EVER TALKED TO AN OFFICIAL AGRONOMIST.
SEAN: Haha, that just means I take care of the soil and anything that grows—anything that needs trimming, cutting, planting, or sculpting.
Q: THE NEW OSPREY MEADOWS GOLF COURSE IS QUITE IMPRESSIVE. WHAT’S IT BEEN LIKE BRINGING THAT TO FRUITION?
SEAN: It’s been a lot of work, a lot of long days and weeks. But it’s been great working with Robert Trent Jones II and Bruce Charlton on this course. They are very passionate and creative in their approach. And to see how the course turned out made it all worthwhile. It was a great experience for me on many levels and I’m happy to be part of it.
Q: TELL ME SOME THINGS YOU LIKE ABOUT THE NEW 19-HOLE COURSE.
SEAN: 19 holes, that alone makes it unique…the extra “Gambler’s Hole” is a nice touch. But there is so much about this course I like. Number one, it’s fun, very playable and enjoyable. It also sits on a great piece of mountain property, above 5,000 with views of Lake Cascade and the mountains all around. Visually, it’s stunning. In terms of playability…it’s an enjoyable challenge. The layout gives you lots of flexibility and options. It never plays the same way twice. Each hole makes you think and presents choices. It’s also super playable—whether you are a beginner or pro. You can pick your tees and dial-in to your particular skill level.
Q: WHAT ABOUT THE LAYOUT?
SEAN: Love it. That’s one of my favorite things about the course—the out and back routing. It’s a fun journey with lots of special features and great sightlines along the way. We added width to the course to make it more ball-striking friendly—no one likes to lose balls, right? And we got rid of some bunkers and reconfigured greens and fairways to make it more accessible and playable.

Q: YOU MUST HAVE A GOOD CREW HERE, TO HELP YOU KEEP THE COURSE AND GROUNDS SO IMMACULATE.
SEAN: They are the best. Hard workers, they work longer hours than anyone here. And it’s a fun bunch—we all get along and make it enjoyable. Without them this course would have never happened
Q: HOW’S YOUR GOLF GAME THESE DAYS?
SEAN: Ha, my handicap isn’t what it used to be—I work too much. Actually, that is my handicap: not playing enough.
Q: BEFORE WE FINISH, I HOPED YOU COULD TELL US ABOUT THE AUDUBON CERTIFICATION TAMARACK WAS GIVEN. THAT SOUNDS LIKE A PRETTY BIG DEAL.
SEAN: It is, for sure. Robert Trent Jones II and crew have a design philosophy that prioritizes environmental responsibility and building techniques. Osprey Meadows is considered a Certified Cooperative Sanctuary Course, which means we help preserve and enhance the wildlife habitat and natural resources we have at Tamarack.

SEAN: It’s great up here. I’m very proud of the new Osprey Meadows course. This is the perfect situation for me and my family. I’m one of those guys who likes the maintenance side of golf, believe it or not. I love being out here, outdoors, doing what I love. Best office in the world.

As a skier through and through, there’s nothing better than using Tamarack as a gateway to some of my favorite backcountry terrain.
3. WHERE WOULD WE FIND YOUR FAVORITE VIEW POINT IN TAMARACK?
I love when the seasons shift, and you can feel winter in the air. The tamaracks turn yellow, and West Mountain Road turns into a ‘yellow brick highway.
4. IN THREE SENTENCES OR LESS TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF.
As an Olympic skier turned real estate agent, I love helping people find their dream homes on the same slopes I ski almost every day. When I’m not working in real estate, I’m the Sports School Director at Tamarack Resort, or helping McCall Winter Sports Club. Whether it’s in the mountains or around town, I bring my passion for adventure and community to everything I do!
5. WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT LIVING HERE IN TAMARACK RESORT?
Skiing, snowmobiling, golfing, and spending summers on the lake—there’s nothing like it, and you won’t find a better mix of adventure anywhere else.
6. IF YOU COULD LEARN TO DO ANYTHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
I’ve traveled to over 50 countries and loved every minute of it, but if there’s one thing I wish I had, it’s the ability to speak Spanish!
7. WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING IF YOU WERE NOT HELPING PEOPLE BUY OR SELL HOMES?
As a general contractor, I would be more deeply involved in the development and construction world. Real estate has always fascinated me, and I enjoy being part of every aspect—from building to buying and selling.
8. WHAT WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO TELL YOURSELF AT AGE 13?
Buy real estate—it’s one of the best ways to build your future! Maybe buy some Apple, Google and Bitcoin as well... haha!
