Christmas celebrations in Wetumpka draw in thousands

CLIFF WILLIAMS | THE HERALD

The Wetumpka Area Chamber of Commerce Downtown Dickens Christmas event saw the streets of downtown lined with thousands of visitors early in December. The city’s Christmas tree was turned on for the first time that holiday season and visitors were greeted by those in period costumes. The Downtown Dickens Christmas event is an annual celebration of the holiday season in Wetumpka. Separate from Downtown Dickens Christmas was the annual Christmas on The Coosa celebration. The culmination of fireworks, a wake-boarding Santa Claus and the Christmas parade drew thousands of people to the streets of downtown Wetumpka. This was the second year the parade was held at night and it was the 50th year for the celebration as a whole. Some estimates put the number of attendees close to 20,000 people. Here are some of our favorite photos from both Christmas events.
