NCS
WHAT IS NCS? ▸ NCS is a UK Government voluntary personal and social development group for 15 - 17 years olds in England and Northern Ireland and is funded largely by government money, therefore only costing the young person £50 for the four week experience ▸ NCS (National Citizen Service) is a four week programme typically run during the summer holidays (Months of July and August) ▸ Every week is different to the rest but they are all equally enjoyable
TEXT
WEEK ONE ▸ Week one is most commonly known as the adventure week, and it is a residential where you go camping in a different area to you ▸ You do activities such as coast steering, quad-biking, paint balling, rock climbing, paddle boarding, kayaking, bushcraft and MOD work shop ▸ Throughout the week we also did many team building exercises which were both fun and good for ice breaking
WEEK TWO â–¸ This week, previously like week one, is also a residential. We had the opportunity of lodging in the university halls of Bournemouth â–¸ Activities we did included; budgeting, Barclays life skills, photo challenge, street dance workshop, rap workshop, university workshop and a variety of different lectures and seminars
WEEK THREE â–¸ During this week we had the opportunity to choose a project to help the community and pitch ideas for it â–¸ My group chose the BCHA New Leaf Allotment as our project. This project benefitted people who had mental disabilities and it provides support for them in a horticultural way
WEEK FOUR ▸ During this week we completed our social action project ▸ My group, alpha one, built and decorated a shed, which we turned into a memory room for people to come and reflect and we also built a clay oven for people to use seasonally for group activities ▸ To raise more money for our SAP we also did a sponsored walk, which there was roughly two hundred of us
GRADUATION â–¸ This was an amazing opportunity to come together as one big NCS family and celebrate our achievements
SO WHAT HAPPENED BECAUSE OF NCS? ▸ Long lasting friends ▸ Built our character ▸ Personal development ▸ New experiences ▸ Amazing memories ▸ Helped local communities ▸ We had fun
