The Silent Hitman by Lee Howard The Undercover Starman: Tony Burrows Tony Burrows was one of the most recognisable voices on pop radio in the late ’60s and 70s. No other UK solo artist had more than three Top 40 hits in the 70s with different groups, but Tony had four... His chart hits are absolute classics, still known by millions of fans all over the universe as the voice: Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes) - United We Stand - Gimme Dat Ding - My Baby Loves Lovin - Beach Baby – Lets Go To San Fransisco and United We Stand etc etc... The reason you wont know him is that none of them were recorded under his name. Plus, he was in the Coca-Cola “I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing” commercial, and worked with Elton John, Rod Stewart, Tom Jones, and many other top artists. Tony started his music career with a vocal group called the Kestrels. The group at that time included songwriters/producers Roger Greenaway and Roger Cook together in the army as they all joined at the same time. After the army, they occasionally performed. Tony later left to join The Ivy League and a couple of years later, he joined the Flower Pot Men having a massive hit with “Let’s Go to San Francisco”. Into the 70’s Tony had toured for 10 years and was tired of living in hotel rooms and had a family.

Tony said, ¨I decided that was enough. That’s when I had the hits with White Plains, Edison Lighthouse, Brotherhood of Man, and the Pipkins which were recorded during a six-to-nine-month period but all came out at about the same time. I actually did one episode of Top of the Pops where I did three different songs by three different groups on the same program.¨ Legend has it that Tony performed Love Grows, My Baby Loves Lovin and United We Stand on the same day on Top Of The Pops. The story is that Burrows would sing one song, go offstage, change clothes, then back and do another change and do another. After singing all three songs on the show, he was banned from both the program and BBC radio because he embarrassed the network... During the later 70s, Tony worked under various group names, in association with Chris Arnold, David Martin, and Geoff Morrow Tony just wanted to concentrate on his studio recordings. “Love Grows” was a particular favourite. Tony added. ¨I was actually doing a session with Tony MacCauley who had just left a recording deal. He had stockpiled four or five songs that he wanted to do, but he didn’t have any artists to do them.¨ Tony always knew exactly what he wanted.

He continued, ¨I was doing backup vocals, and the musical director was a guy named Lou Warburton. We worked together on a demo of “You’ve Got Your Troubles” (later a hit for The Fortunes), and I asked if I could play a tape of a track for Lou and halfway through the song, Tony MacCauley turned to me and said, would you like to do the lead on LOVE GROWS? I said, “Yeah, okay,” and that’s how it happened. It was released, and within two weeks, it was No1. In 1974, Tony had another massive hit with BEACH BABY. ¨That was through John Carter. He’d been part of the Ivy League and had written “Let’s Go to San Francisco.” He called me and told me he had a song he wanted me to do and said, “I’ve got a feeling about this demo.” The demo was just John and a guitar, and he was singing the song, so we went into the studio and recorded it. There were around 18 different tracks, and John and I did all of the backing vocals as well as the lead. I heard that when Brian Wilson first heard “Beach Baby” he said, “I don’t know who it is, but it’s definitely West Coast America.” Which I took as a great tribute. I’ve since met him two or three times and the other guys too.¨

BBC Two announces a new documentary on the 1970 Miss World contest BBC Two announces a new one hour documentary about the 1970 Miss World contest, when a dramatic protest by the Women’s Liberation Movement created headlines around the world. The Miss World Protests made by BBC Studios, tells the story of the infamous 1970 Miss World contest, when protestors dramatically disrupted the show kick-starting a feminist revolution in front of an audience of millions. It was also time of growing anti-apartheid protest, and the first ever black South African contestant was sent to the contest with the dubious title ‘Miss Africa South’, alongside the white Miss South Africa.

The trick is how you deal with the many curves that your life's journey tends to throw you from time to time. When you want something to happen, how do you go about making your wish a reality? Somewhere along the line you need to see and feel the endresult even though you haven't started to point yourself in that direction. Your mind is a powerful tool that

you can use to great effect. It can be your best friend or your worst enemy. If things don't turn out the way you were expecting, here are some important things to remember:

1. Don't freak out! Stuff happens but it's how you choose to deal with it that makes all the difference in the world. You might not be able to change external events, but you can certainly make the choice as to how you want to react to what's happening 2. Acknowledge it Acknowledge that things didn't complete themselves in the best way possible and then let it go. Letting it go allows you to take the next important step 3. Move on Leaving disappointment behind is one of the healthiest things you can do. It's when you choose to dwell on a negative that things can backfire. If you constantly keep thoughts of why things didn't

work out the way you think they should have, you'll never move out of that space of disappointment. Remember that thoughts always turn into things. Moving on lets refresh the situation and allows you to set another goal that will have a better ending. If you're listening to an album of someone's songs and you don't like the first number, what do you do? You move on to the next. And so it is in life. You make the choice if you want to dwell on hearing the same song over and over. You also have the power to make the choice to move to the next number on the album

4. Reset Now that you've left disappointment behind, create a better version of exactly what you want to happen. Before you even start to go along the path of claiming what it is you want to happen, make sure you totally believe that you'll receive what you're asking for and if you truly deserve and are worthy of it. So many prayers and meditations go unanswered simply because, deep down, there was a core belief that preventing the final manifestation from occurring

Realise that you are here for a reason and know that life is never a straight shot. Understanding that there will indeed be some twists and turns along the way keeps you firmly on the path you were always meant to travel. Finally, always work at embracing life with open arms. If something doesn't work out, move on to the next adventure. You have more power than you think you do.

The NHS has put in place measures to ensure the safety of all patients and NHS staff while also ensuring services are available to the public as normal. The risk to the general public is moderate. The risk of being in close contact with a person with coronavirus or contaminated surfaces is very low at the current time, Like the common cold, coronavirus infection usually occurs through close contact with a person with novel coronavirus via cough and sneezes or hand contact. A person can also be infected by touching contaminated surfaces if they do not wash their hands. Everyone is being reminded to follow Public Health England advice to: Always carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze. Then bin the tissue, and wash your hands, or use a sanitiser gel. Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after using public transport. Use a sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands. Avoid close contact with people who are unwell.
