The things I’d like to say about traveling
Three years ago, I opened a bookstore in Changbin called “Eat Books”, which has a business model “bookstore-working exchange”. I think it's another travel mode that allows you to participate directly in local life through the bookstore and find your own answers.
The idea of “bookstore-working exchange” came from my previous experience when visiting Changbin. Once a friend invited me to visit a friend “next door” but we ended up having a 3.2
Here’s are the mindsets to get the essence of fun in Taitung: “to visit the same place over again”, “to make traveling feels like being home, “to participate in life without purpose”.

Next comes the eating part. There are many reservation-only restaurants in Changbin, but it’s only possible to experience the rare “magic dining table of destiny” when you’re with a relaxed mind.

It might happen easier if you have local friends here. A friend in Changbin weirdly proposed that if go to his place for a meal then I can stay over (makes no sense but it does here). You might also be offered the chance while traveling. When I was visiting the sugar-making factory, I helped the owners with weeding and got invited for dinner.
If your travel time is limited, you can have separate trips and visit the same spot on a “continuous visit mode”. If you have unlimited time but limited savings, there’s opportunities of “work exchange” in Taitung such as in bookstores, farms and restaurants, etc. Traveling here is relieving and it offers a whole new perspective for life. The slow pace in Taitung also brings you the unexpected opportunities that you can’t have on a normal trip.
I often get asked, “Where is the best place to go in Taitung?” For people who loves to play around like me, I go to where I can be as chilled as possible. Since the fun for me is to do what I like to do most.
Pack up my home routine to the Sangshu River
I’m very good at doing my daily routines outdoors. In the summer, I often pack up my gears and go the Sangshu River. I could spend my whole day doing stuffs that I usually do at home. Many folks in the neighborhood also come here to cool off the heat or have a barbecue. The best moment is when they have food to share with you!

Your veg-out skills will grow through experiences! You’ll know the best time to go to the creek is at noon. When the sun shine through, it feels amazingly warm and comfortable. If you go into the water again.
Another place I love is the Taimali beach. At around 4 o’clock, the beach is still warm from the sun, so it’s the best time to lie on the beach. If you are there before 4 o’clock, the sun has not yet set for the time, so you will have nowhere to escape from the sun. The sand doesn't stick to your body even if you lie down, very easy to clean up.

From late spring to summer, the tribesmen in Lanyu are preparing for the Flying Fish Festival. People in Hongtou Village has a specific and delicate way to process the
rather simple.

From Hongtou, you can follow the Round-the-Island Highway to the North or South. People will get their groceries at the Kaiyuan Harbor in the Yeyou Village, where has the only gas station on the island. You can buy all the supplies you need, and some of the tribesmen also sell their own crops and fresh seafood there.
There are two lighthouses in the Yeyou Village, the Old Lanyu Lighthouse and the Lanyu Lighthouse. The Langdao Village is also near to the lighthouses. “Langdao” means a quiet and polite village in the Yami (Tao) language. The sceneries along the way are very breathtaking while visiting these places.

Dongcing Village and the Yeyin Village are also located here. At the Dongcing Village, the traditional boat Tatala will be open for visitors to experience after the Flying Fish Festival ended. The Yeyin Village is serene and has preserved the most intact Yeyin underground houses of the island, some of which are still inhabited. With local tribesmen’s tour guidance, you can learn the wisdom of the traditional craftsmanship that has been used here.
It is also a great place to see the sunrise and moonrise in the east coast. May travelers slow down and feel the scenery with their heart, so that the beauty of Lanyu can persist.

Some times ago, the Mambo team visited Eat Books and met the store managers: Mr. and Mrs. Yang, a retired couple. Taitung is the most comfortable place to visit for them. When mentioning how to have fun with the other half, they did not hide their way of traveling.
Since the couple loves to have fun, they're so much more active than others. Because of such curiosity and willingness to explore different ways of travel, even in popular tourist sites, they can see different sceneries.

Mr. and Mrs. Yang have accumulated a lot of mutual understanding. Mrs. Yang arranges the itinerary, Mr. Yang is in charge of driving and recording. Even if they encounter problems during the trip, they will not blame each other. “Mutual understanding” has become a basic between the couple.

Every October, when the rice ears are harvested, the "Autumn Rice Harvest Arts Festival" is held in Chishang, where you can dance to the music amidst the golden rice ears fields. It is not easy to find places where children can enjoy themselves and adults can also feel relaxed. However, Taitung has a great environment for children to explore. Let's take a look at the private playgrounds that belongs to Hung-mao Sung and the kids.
Weekends are the family days. Hung-mao Sung often takes children to Changbin sports park for a picnic. The spacious turf and luxuriant trees make it possible to play soccer with the kids.

Shiyusan recreation area, a semi-enclosed bay. You don't have to worry about big waves and can let your kids swim here. Adults can also do water sports in the deeper waters.
After moving to Taitung, they have more space to raise chicks, pets, and build their own swings. The frontage of home is the most fun place for kids to play with parents on their side.

If you can give yourself a vacation to travel alone, are you in? It is essential to take a solo trip and enjoy time being alone. For this “me” trip, I chose Changbin, which has been very popular in recent years. Let's hit the road!
For this stay, I chose the Chocolate Solo in Chengshan. Each room can only accommodate one person there, which allows you organize your thoughts and self-heal without any disturbance.

For dinner, I went to the Chenxiao Seafood near WuShibi Fishing Harbo, they serve delicious seafood. The second advantage of traveling alone is you can enjoy the whole meal by yourself.
After dinner, I went to the Herdor Bistro in Zhenbing. They usually run as a camping site, and the bistro is a side gig business. The place is so relaxing, you can have a glass of craft beer under the starry sky here. Being alone during the trip has made my mind clearer, and I was able to regain my strength and motivation at the end of the trip.

The Beinan Rice that Ameya uses was grown in the southernmost part of the East Rift Valley. The rice is cooked in a 10-inch wide iron pot with a direct flame, which makes the rice full of flavor to pair with other dishes in the restaurant.
The variety of Guanshan Rice is “Kaohsiung 145”, its appearance is crystal clear and full and it tastes sticky and chewy. They use Guanshan Rice here in “Zhenhao Cafeteria”, where serves various food and superb rice!
