Welcome to the 2023 Taimate Bull Sale

A year of excitement and expansion for us at Taimate. On the back of the 120ha block in Ward we purchased last Autumn, this February we were fortunate enough to pick up another 700ha block, also in Ward. This now gives us a total of 1500ha. This is very exciting as it will now allow us to grow our cow base and increase the quality of our bull sale team even further, year on year.

On top of the extra ground, we have had an incredible season. Seemingly raining almost whenever it was needed. 6000 lambs have certainly more than kept on top of the quality pasture but there’s a lot of rank feed on the hills, a very nice problem to have. It’s been a good year all round. The grapes harvested a very good, high-quality crop and we’ve even had our horse Taimate Diva pick up a few wins!

There have been so many of you out there who have not had such a fortunate season. From cyclones in the north to severe droughts in the south, we really feel for you. Kind words are small comfort we know, but things will get better. ON THAT NOTE, IF $$$ are a bit tight due to such events, please let us know. WE ARE OFFERING INTEREST FREE CREDIT FOR 6 MONTHS (XMAS) to anyone who may need it. Please talk to us early (not just before sale please) so we can organise it with the girls in the office.

A highlight of the last 12 months has been the uptake of last year’s keeper bull, Taimate Roy R38. Over 30 studs throughout NZ used semen in 2022 and an exclusive semen deal was reached with 5 of the most prestigious studs in Australia. The way in which he has grown out himself, and his first crop of calves weaned, we are excited to see what he does throughout Australasia.

Of course, whilst there were many highlights to enjoy this past year, the big part missing was that we are no longer able to share these moments or milestones with our dear old Dad. Ossie or OJ as he was known to all, left us last September. He and Mum together laid the main foundations throughout the 70s, 80s and 90s for what we have today and have built on. He is sorely missed.

Dad would’ve been rather chuffed with the line-up of bulls on offer this year. We’ve worked very hard on improving our herds EBV’s across the board, whilst maintaining our strength, shape, do-ability and temperament. Much easier said than done. You’ll see as you scour through the catalogue how good the data is on the bulls from start to finish, and yet when you see them in person you’ll be blown away by their physical presence. Growth, softness and very quiet.

As always, our hospitality will be second to none. We are very proud to open our front gate and call the after match a community event.

We’re looking forward to catching up on June 19th, sale starts at 1pm.

Regards,

Paull Hickman

Bulls will be weighed on sale day TB. Status C10
