TAHOE DONNER

TRAILS

INFO CENTER AT ALDER CREEK ADVENTURE CENTER | 15275 ALDER CREEK RD. (530) 582-9672 | TAHOEDONNER.COM/TRAILS

The Tahoe Donner Trail System is home to more than 60 miles of trails and fire access service roads on over 5,000 acres, the ultimate playground for hikers, trail runners, mountain bikers and equestrians. With thousands of users – including horses and dogs – we must all work together to observe rules and etiquette to keep trails safe and rewarding for everyone.

The Tahoe Donner Trail System and open space are arguably the greatest asset and benefit to the association and its members. Stepping out onto the trail is easy when using a nearby street connection or one of the many larger facility trailheads like Alder Creek Adventure Center. Whether your passion is extended exploring hikes, a quick run after work, a lunch mountain bike ride or connecting to larger trails systems like the Pacific Crest Trail on your horse, Tahoe Donner trails have much to offer and enhance your life. Try a new trail, adventure to the outer loops and enjoy an indelible part of the Sierra Nevada experience. When out on the trails, remember that everyone deserves a positive experience. Expect to see children, horses, dogs, bears and more on any trail. Take a few moments to refresh your role and responsibilities on the trail. When you see another trail user, greet them. A smile goes beyond the trail. Pick up a Tahoe Donner Trail Map, keep it close and go explore!

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

TRAIL MAP + WILDFLOWER GUIDE

A detailed Summer Trail Map and Tahoe Donner Wildflower Guide are available at Member Services, major trailheads, Alder Creek Adventure Center and tahoedonner.com/trails.

INTERACTIVE TRAIL MAP

TRAIL CONNECTIVITY

New, interactive trail map available this summer online at tahoedonner. com/trails.

Vital to the trail community is creating a vibe that fosters a sense of stewardship, community, appreciation for the experience and compassion for each user. Next time you’re out on the trails, keep the following in mind. •

Share the trail. Tahoe Donner trails are designed and maintained for multiple users. Expect to see all user types and abilities on the trails.

Be aware and don’t tune out. Stay engaged and be prepared for wildlife interactions, changing weather and unexpected trail conditions.

Observe yielding etiquette, and always negotiate safe passes.

Greet fellow trail users, especially when coming from behind.

Manage your animal. Whether it’s a dog or horse, you have a responsibility to the animal and other trail users to maintain control at all times.

Report trail issues to the trail manager by calling (530) 582-9672 or emailing trails@tahoedonner.com.

FOR MORE INFO VISIT TAHOEDONNER.COM/TRAILS

YIELDING ETIQUETTE You should expect to come across fellow recreationists each time you head out on a trail. Although common sense goes a long way when using busy trails, we ask that all trail users observe the following yielding etiquette. •

Horseback riders always have the right of way, but should be prepared for inexperienced trail users who are unfamiliar with how to act around horses. Avoid high-traffic and multi-use trails whenever possible.

When approaching someone on horseback, announce yourself and ask the rider for the best way to pass.

Bikers must always yield for hikers and horseback riders. Stop and get off the bike, then step downhill and off-trail to let them pass. Always announce your presence when approaching people and horses on the trail.

Uphill traffic always has the right of way.

EVENTS + PROGRAMS NATIONAL TRAILS DAY GUIDED HIKE: CARPENTER VALLEY Long hidden from public view, the magnificent Lower Carpenter Valley offers grand scenery, lush meadows and more. Dates: Saturdays | June 16, July 21, Aug. 18, Sept. 15 Time: 9AM-12PM More Info: TDTrails.org INVASIVE WEED WALK WITH THE WEED WARRIORS Learn about the non-native weeds invading your yard and neighborhood with the Trails Club and the Truckee River Watershed Council. Date: Saturday, Aug. 4 Time: 10AM-12:30PM More Info: TDTrails.org RIVER WALK WITH THE WATERSHED COUNCIL Take a walk with the Trails Club and the Truckee River Watershed Council while learning about our watershed and how you can help restore and protect it, starting right in your own backyard.

PROTECT YOURSELF + OUR TRAILS Always be respectful of animals, the environment and fellow trail users. Patience and courtesy make busy trails easier to navigate. Check the weather forecast so you know what to expect when you hit the trail, and always bring water, snacks, sun protection and extra layers. Don’t play in the mud. Let muddy trails dry out so they remain narrow and don’t erode. Stay on the trails. Don’t cut switchbacks or take shortcuts, it damages the ecosystem and shortens your hike. Pick up after your pet. Litter bags are available at most trailheads, please bring them, use them and dispose of them in a trash can. Respect our neighbors and stay on Tahoe Donner property at all times. Property boundaries are posted; please observe them. Take and share photos of your hike or adventure to inspire others to enjoy all that Tahoe Donner offers.

s ’ t le S SWIM U JUMP SMILE M MEET M FEEL E TRAVEL R Tahoe Donner Real Estate. Contact Alison Elder. In the last two years, we’ve purchased three homes and sold two homes. Alison acted as buy and sell side on one of our purchases, and sell side on one of our sales. Having had extensive recent experience on both sides of residential real estate transactions, I can say, without a doubt, that Alison and her team are in a completely different league. The level of expertise, professionalism, deal execution and client service they bring to the table are unmatched. I could not recommend Alison and her team more, whether buying or selling in the Truckee area, and frankly anywhere she chooses to offer her services. Hands down the best. – Charles and Teri Bair, Listing and Buyer Clients
