SWIFT WATER RESCUE & JET BOAT OPERATOR RESCUE TRAINING MOTORIZED SWIFTWATER RESCUE BOAT OPERATOR
This past July, the Guardians were able to bring a raven rescue instructor to the Territory to provide situational training for travelling and working on and around fast-flowing water, with emphasis on identifying risks, self-rescue techniques and various options for rescuing others.
The Guardians were also encouraged to have situational awareness and knowledge of the decision-making process required to choose the most appropriate rescue approach. Over the course of four days, they were taught swift water dynamics, throw bagging, hand signals, shallow water crossings, and rescue swimming, with rope knots, ties, and tensioning techniques. This course provides comprehensive hands-ontraining for rescue boat operators responding to incidents on moving water. It is designed to develop a sense of confidence and the necessary skills to operate watercraft at speed in fast-moving water in rivers or flood situations, and to perform rescues from a watercraft.
The Guardians received a Rescue 3 International certification, recognized worldwide as certified training for incidents in moving water and providing value in mutual aid situations.
