Introduction This book is the first edition of the Tahltan Children's Illustrated Dictionary. It's development stretches over several years of intermittent work funded by B.C.'s Ministry of Education. It is patterned in style after the Central Carrier Illustrated Children's Dictionary produced under the direction of the Yinka Dene Language Institute in Vanderhoof, BC. The purpose of the dictionary is not to be a technical reference to Tahltan, but to provide a broader source of example words and sentences than is currently available for those who are interested in the Tahltan language. I have tried to include a broad scope of common words and sentence structures in the approximately XXX stems in the Tahltan to English section. The English to Tahltan section was created by including the words from the main entries of the Tahltan to English section and all other new words from the example sentences. For this reason, it has about 1675 entries and provides a broader reference than the Tahltan to English section. Acknowledgments I am indebted to all who have helped complete this project. Pat Carlick, my language assistant helped a lot in the initial phases of gathering words and example sentences. Explanation of Dictionary Entries The dictionary has two main sections, a Tahltan to English section and an English to Tahltan section. The Tahltan to English section is in the first half of the dictionary and contains all of the illustrated entries1. The English to Tahltan section is in the second half of the book and is in a two column format similar to many English dictionaries. The general format of these entries is illustrated in the following two sections.
