The first Spiegeltent venues were hand-crafted from wood and ‘spiegel’ or mirrored glassine in the Nineteenth Century. Touring through Northern Europe, they would bring the excitement of the Dance Hall to the small towns and villages that lacked these venues. Today in New Zealand we are lucky enough to have our very own modern version, the glorious Pacific Crystal Palace, and it’s our pleasure to bring it once again to Taranaki just in time for the start of summer. Get ready for a fortnight of explosive fun. Starting off is an intense weekend of comedy, music and cabaret from some of the best New Zealand artists including Jennifer Ward-Lealand, Julia Deans, Jamie Bowen and the 2019 Billy T Award-winning Kura Forrester. This gives way to a week-long season from the international smash-hit cabaret burlesque-circus style production Limbo. After years touring throughout Europe, South America and Australia, this show has been re-designed for the intimacy of our very own venue in this very special Up Close production. We are delighted to bring the Pacific Crystal Palace Spiegeltent back to Taranaki for 2019, this time as a standalone event - Spiegel Fest! The programme is jammed packed with award-winning performances that we know will leave you in a state of amazement. Puke Ariki Landing will be home to the beautiful Pacific Crystal Palace Spiegeltent which will help the city come alive as we ease into the summer and festive season. Over the two weeks we hope you all get to experience the Spiegeltent and absorb its grandeur while being entertained by our impressive festival line-up.

Pacific Crystal Palace Spiegeltent From November you will find the opulent Pacific Crystal Palace Spiegeltent on Puke Ariki Landing ready to house a mix of award-winning comedy, powerhouse musicians, and delectable bursts of sensory dance. Seductive cabaret, circus performance and breath-taking acrobatics will leave you wowed and at the edge of your seat. The Pacific Crystal Palace Spiegeltent itself is an impressive space that must be experienced. The Crystal Palace is a traveling 330 seat performance venue made up of 3000 pieces. The 40 tonne palace is based on the Belgium designed Spiegeltent of the 19th century; it features the same magic as the European style although it is brushed with hints of Kiwiana culture. With New Zealand ferns on the ornate mirrors, paua set into the carved wooden pillars and gorgeous stained glass windows featuring harakeke, the Crystal Palace is a lavish space that will whisk you away and leave you smiling. Located on Puke Ariki Landing the Spiegeltent will bring a vibrant ambience to the heart of New Plymouth’s CBD. Open in most instances one hour before performances start, with a full bar and delicious menu including platters and pizza. See page 21 for the full Spiegel Fest Menu. The Pacific Crystal Palace Spiegeltent will also be our festival precinct, featuring a quirky outdoor chill-out zone complete with a food cart. Located outside the Pacific Crystal Palace Spiegeltent, the food cart opens an hour before each performance. On days there is a lunchtime performance the food cart will be open from 11.30am – 1.00pm.

Lunchtime Bites The Devon Hotel New Plymouth Brass Celebrating its 160th anniversary the Band has claims to being the oldest brass band in New Zealand – able to trace continual lineage since its foundation in 1859. Thrilled to be performing in the Pacific Crystal Palace, many of the band members have represented New Zealand in both National and National Youth Bands. Tickets are issued according to the venue capacity and patrons select their own seats after admission to the venue. Seating is on a ‘first come, first served’ basis so we recommend you arrive early.
GA BOOTH If the phrase “GA Booth (pp)” is used, this refers to a single booth seat. Booths are located around the inside of the Spiegeltent. There is a maximum of 8 people per booth. All other general admission rules apply, as above.
