WELCOME The 2018 programme celebrates the art of cabaret in all its forms - where stories are told through music in the intimate surrounds of a late-night club.

We’ve brought together a diverse range of artists and shows with stories that are by turns comic and tragic, but always entertaining. We honour some of the great artists of the past such as Nina Simone, Cole Porter and even Kylie Minogue. There are also some energetic new works from local artists such as The Māori Sidesteps and Taranaki’s own Ben Hurley. And if you’re in the mood to party let the cast of Australia’s latest drag show sensation YUMMY take you for a walk on the wild side.

Othewise indulge in some gin with Mother’s Ruin, a brilliant new cabaret work celebrating the history of this fine beverage.

Each show is distinct, but each artist shares one thing in common with the others; their ability to connect directly with their audience to create

moving and unforgettable performances. And so we trust we can entice you to join us on a mid-winter musical adventure in the Theatre Royal to discover the warm and intimate surrounds of the Right Royal Cabaret Club. See you there!

Their 2018 jam-packed summer events calendar included a market day, Waitangi Day celebrations, Americarnival, Velo Deus 20, Escapefest, Newtopia Multimedia Festival and Shape & Sounds.

From 5-10 June they’ll also be supporting FEASTival – Taranaki Restaurant Week. This festival will be a celebration of Taranaki’s high calibre restaurants and cafes, offering taster menus, degustation nights, beer and wine tastings, progressive dinners, and long lunches.

Ben Hurley, accompanied by a two piece punk band, has created the world's first ever stand-up-comedy-punk-musical!

This isn't your usual stand-up comedy show, this is something that's never been seen before as Ben rants and jokes about 22 subjects while accompanied by the band. With timing, waves, and crescendos of volatile hilarity, it’s a maelstrom the likes of which haven’t been seen before.

Wellington-born cabaret provocateur Sheba Williams bedazzles in a show packed with glamour, high energy and audience immersion, as she brings to life the music and story of legendary High Priestess of Soul: Nina Simone.

Sheba's known for her spectacular live performances which are a heady mix of shimmering costumes, audience participation and spontaneous humour.

Well, Did You Evah! After two sell-out shows at the Taranaki Arts Festival, Michael Griffiths is back to perform his one-man show, celebrating prolific American songwriter Cole Porter.

Griffiths explores the colourful life and many timeless songs of Mr Porter. You’ll hear about high-living, grave misfortune, and a legacy that sparkles with wit and wisdom.

MOTHER'S RUIN Australia

Lose yourself in the company of sailors, barmaids and bootleggers in this darkly comic cabaret. With tipsy candour, rising cabaret stars Maeve Marsden and Libby Wood take us on a sublime musical journey through the history of ‘Mother’s ruin’, aka gin.
