AGREEMENT WITH KUKKIWON

I am delighted to announce that today at our headquarters, World Taekwondo agreed with Kukkiwon to set out the governing principles on Kukkiwon Dan/Poom Administration worldwide.

World Taekwondo has been recognizing Kukkiwon as the cooperative organization for standardized Martial Art Taekwondo education and Dan/Poom certification. Today’s agreement sets out to strengthen this cooperation by empowering our Member National Associations.

This is the result of years of ceaseless efforts for more than a decade, including but not limited to the contributions of the latest World Taekwondo ad-hoc committee comprised of representatives from Continental Unions and MNAs. Through this agreement, a MNA will be authorized to conduct promotion tests, and administration and education of Kukkiwon Dan/Poom in the pertinent country. This privilege will be granted through a separate agreement to be signed by and between the MNA and Kukkiwon taking into consideration local law, capacities and various situations. The extent of delegation of authority will also be determined by mutual agreement, and the MNAs will be contacted by Kukkiwon in due course to start discussions on the guideline and agreement. World Taekwondo will be fully engaged in handling any guidance or disputes during the course. To perform these operations, each MNA is required to establish a Kukkiwon Commission within its structure to handle all matters pertaining to Kukkiwon. For the MNAs that are not able to conduct such operations due to lack of capacity or resources, the pertinent Continental Unions will provide supports of tests and administration.
