Carol Hagan is a self-taught artist who lives and works in Billings, Montana� Born in 1962 in Central City, Nebraska, Carol moved with her family at the age of six to Montana� She continues to live and work in this special place that is so close to her heart�

Her paintings and prints are now in private and corporate collections across the United States and abroad� Her original works are represented in fine galleries and select museum shows� Her paintings are contemporary, colorful expressions of the landscapes and animals that she so enjoys to paint�

Carol has had the distinct honor of exhibiting her work in numerous shows over the years, in museums and galleries across the country that include the C�M� Russell Museum, The Buffalo Historical Center, the Desert Caballeros Western Museum, the Booth Western Art Museum, The Brinton Museum, The Yellowstone Art Museum, The Hockaday Museum, Settlers West Galleries “American Miniatures” Show, Legacy Galleries Miniatures Show, and the Nature Conservancy’s “Montana Masterpieces Show”, to name a few� She has had several large solo exhibitions in fine galleries in Montana, Wyoming, Arizona and New Mexico�

Carol is very honored to be included in the C�M� Russell Museum’s “Russell Skull Society of Artists”�

MONTANA HISTORICAL SOCIETY

History starts with changes� This year, the Montana Historical Society is making history�

For 70 years, we’ve worked out of the same building across from the Montana State Capitol� As you can imagine, we’ve grown during those decades, collecting art, artifacts, and materials that capture the Treasure State’s history�

Recently, we moved offsite while a hive of construction workers upgrade our grand old building’s plumbing, heating, and cooling systems� To protect our priceless collections, we’ve packed and stored them in a safe location�

That means we won’t be open to the public in 2023 and 2024� I won’t lie� That hurts a lot�

But wait! Along with the renovations, we are constructing a 66,000-squarefoot addition to better serve our faithful supporters� The new Montana Heritage Center will feature world-class exhibits that tell Montana’s stories� It will include a new Homeland Gallery, an expanded Charles M� Russell Gallery, an event center, a café, and a Museum Store�

We will have classrooms where students can dig into Montana history, a sensory garden, and enhanced access for differently abled visitors� We will have 450 parking spaces, including room for RVs, buses, and charging stations for electric vehicles�

I invite you to continue to visit the Original Governor’s Mansion in Helena, at 304 No� Ewing St�, for a tour of days past�

I also encourage you to check out our online offerings, to search digitized newspapers, explore artifacts, read digitized books and letters, and browse through photographs� We are online at mths�mt�gov or call us at 406/444-2694 for help finding what you need�

Change is difficult� We will miss seeing your smiling faces as you discover the secrets of Montana’s past� But rest assured� You will be amazed when we open our doors in 2025�
