St. Angela Bugema was granted a status of a Sub-Parish on the 13 March 1985. At first it was a Basic Christian Community and it was curved out of Katale Busaawula (St. Peter and Paul) sub-Parish:
The Sub-Parish Started at the Residence of late Zaverio Kaggwa where the Sunday services were held under a mwoloola tree. The late Zaverio Kaggwa became the first catechist and his wife the late Benadine Kaggwa became the first head of the laity. Later the late Angela Nantale donated the land where the 1st church was built. The 1st Mass took place on 27th January 1997.
The basic Christian communities also get Mass every month and recite the rosary as a community in the months of May and October. The holy hour also takes place every Thursdays.
The following have been the heads of the laity since the inception of the Sub-Parish: Zaverio Kaggwa 1985-1995; Deogratius Nyanzi (interim)1995-1996; Fabian Bwanika 1997-2011; Catechist Kakooza (interim); Catechist Bayega (interim); Josephine Bwanika (Interim) 2011-2016; Judith Ssemunaaba 2017 to date.
The following have been the heads of the laity from the inception of the Subparsih: Late Benadine Kaggwa1985-1990; Vincent Katabaazi 1990-1995; late Zaverio Kaggwa (interim); Annet Nakanyike 2001- 2008; late Vincent Kamwesiga 2008 – 2017; Bisaso Kizito 2018 to date.
The pastoral growth of the Sub-parish has been tremendous. It used to receive services on Sundays, later had one mass in Luganda, today it has two Masses every Sunday in English and Luganda. The Sub-parish also gets Mass on Saturdays followed by Confession, it also receives Mass on all days of obligations.
The sick and elderly are regularly visited and those in need are supported. The catechist plays a pivotal role in the preparation of the children for Sacraments and last vows and the catechumen, she also conducts sessions for the mature members who may have missed receipt of the sacraments at the right time. Recently the Sub-Parish has started oratorio sessions for children.
On the development side, the sub parish has also made great strides. It started by building the church on the land which was donated by the late Angela, then Mr. Joseph Magandaazi Yiga aka JOMAYI donated two plots and the new church was started in 2012 which is still under construction and will be completed in 2025 with the grace of God.
The Sub-Parish is also constructing a building to house the hall, oratorio, meeting room and toilets. Three plots of land were also acquired to accommodate the parking area and other amenities that are required for the sub-parish.

St Angela Bugema Catholic Sub-Parish is composed of six basic Christian Communities (6 Bubondo’s). These included; St Angela (now St Andrew Kagwa), St Pope John Paul 11, St Balikudembe, St Muggaga, St Jude and Kissa Kyamaria. The sub- Parish started on 13th March 1985 after it was curved out off St Peter and Paul Katale Busawula sub-parish. The sub- parish began under a tree in the compound of late Zaverio Kagwa and Mrs. Benadin Kagwa .
On 17th March 1985, four days later, a leadership to guide the sub-parish was elected. It should be noted that the first Ssabkristu of the sub-Parish was Mrs. Benadin Kagwa. The first Catechist was late Zaverio Kagwa(RIP). We thank them for the great work they did during that time as a Ssabkristu and Catechist.
On 2nd December 1990 the 2nd leadership was elected. On 13th December 1990, the then Ssabakristu Mr. Vincent Katabazi brought the first proposal to have the first mass in our sub-parish. On 13th /01/1991, the Parish priest accepted to have the first mass which was scheduled on 27th / 01/ 1991 at 10:00am under the tree in the Compound of late Zaverio Kagwa. May the good lord reward the faithfulls who organized that historical day.
The second mass in the sub-parish was on Sunday 15th September 1991 and was organized by the Bavubuka/ youth. On 13th /8/ 1995 the 3rd leadership was put in place. On 2nd February 1997, Mr. Faustino Mbwanika became the second catechist after the late Zaverio Kaggwa. Mr Faustino Mbwanika had been an active Youth under the Late who groomed him into a Catechist.
On 18th April 1999, the late Nzera Nantale donated a piece of Kibanja (land) were the Karipuso Makeshift church was built. May she rest in internal peace. On 8th July 2001, the new sub-parish leadership was elected. On 30th September 2001, the meeting to build the Makeshift Church (Karipuso) sat and planned how to raise funds under the leadership of Ssabkristu Mrs. Annet Nakanyike and Musomesa Mr Faustino Mbwanika.
On 18th 01. 2003, a new foundation for a church was excavated above the Karipuso but this land was later taken by the Landlords when they were demarcating the plots for sale and project stalled.
With my family we joined this sub-parish on Sunday 13th August 2006. Mrs Alvera Kamwesiga together with the then Ssabakristu Omukadde Annet Nakanyike moved house to
house mobilizing the Christians who had lost energy. These two people did a wonderful revival work of the sub parish. Masses were arranged in people’s home and the Catholic faith in Bugema regained momentum. It was a new beginning that ushered the developments you see today.
On 4th March 2007, we took the measurements of the new church Nabwegamo and excavated the foundation. After observing that the land at which we were building was small, In July 2007, I with my wife Alvera Kamwesiga we visited our neighbor Mr. Joseph Yiga Magandazi, the Proprietor of JOMAYI and fronted proposal with a request for land donation to the church. It is important to note that his mother was Angela, and his dad Josephat,
He first gave us land in Nalumunye Estate where St. Josephat stands today but the area was under the Jurisdiction of Busega Parish yet we are under Lweza Parish but he later gave two plots of this land where we stand now. On 13th. 01. 2008, His Grace Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, our Archbishop laid the foundation stone of the new church of Bugema.
On 7th July 2008, I was chosen as a Ssabkristu. The current leadership of Bugema Sub-parish is composed of; BISASO KIZITO (later taken to parish as Treasurer)Mrs. Judith Ssemunaba (OMUSOMESA), Vincent Kirumira, Kwesiga Raymond, Alvera Kamwesiga, Christine Ssebaramu, Francis Twinamastsiko, Teddy Nassozi Wasike, Josephine Bwanika, Judah Mawube, John Bosco Talire,, Emmanuel Musisi, Harriet Tugumisiriza, Rose Kyagabo, Rose Mary Nnankabirwa, HON .KALULE SSENGO (Now sabafumbo at Parish), Mrs. Stella Turyatembe, Mr.William Mukisa Kigundu, Mr. JB Walusimbi, Mrs. Annet Nakanyike, Mrs. Harriet Tugumisirize and Mrs. Josephine Nasozi
With the above team our first tasks were; Construction of this church with a capacity of 1300 people of which 200 can sit in the gallery. Shifting from the old church to this church which we achieved On 28TH February 2015 Palm Sunday and today we have two masses Every Sunday; English mass 7:30am and Luganda mass 10:00am. We have purchased additional land of shs 33 million which we achieved in the months of June 2016. Building our church to wall plate and thereafter we shall go to roofing.
