The forming of the urban context is based on the existing territory, something that changes slowly, and human activities, which are changing all the time. Due to the non-stop pace of human activities, the urban context remains in a cycle of perpetual negotiation. Like organic tissue, the city is always in a state of growth, decay, and rebirth.

In this project we did a inner brain storming and brought up three schemes and then combined the podium of my design with the towers in another.

Due to the limited shape of site, long, narrow, and L shape, I tried to make the retail podium as an integrated massing to consolidate the commercail activity. Besides, by lifting the massing in 100% corner and creating inner plaza, people can easily access inner and underground stores.

For this overseas project, we endeavered in facade design. In each phase, I designed several options which all met client’s need and also in various style. In the DD phase, we broke the ceiling into four repetivie modules to lower the building budget and study a practical way to build it.

There are three challenges in this project, limited budget, strong image as a landmark for, maintaining efficiency of the tower.

After studied over 20 massing models, I concentrated the featured massing in the canopy of the podium. In this case, the budget will be spent on the most obvious area and get largest effect. Meanwhile, the tower body keep relatively conventional and efficient.

This is a conventional office tower buildings group. When working on it, my main task is to organize the consistency and difference in the facade design of these three buildings.

Moreover, I developed several schemes of the canopy of central plaza from conventional to special feature.

This was a small project, a single house on a mountain slop. In this case, it’s a tough work to find a solution to deal with the site. Since it was small, I’m simply the only person who handling the whole project from initial design to construction stage. My role in this project included negotiating with vendors, engineers, clients, as well as managing two other members of the team.

URBAN INTERWOVEN

-Vertical Farm on Highway 101-

The city was a grid context and cut by the 101 highway. Our policy of this project is to fill the grid system back and turn the empty space of 101 into another urban connection. Besides, we embed vertical farm on this site and use it as the interweaving element.

L.A. is a city where a lot people live in a desert climate, sunshine almost all the year and have very limited rain. So, it will be very meaningful to make L.A. a huge city lab of sustainable experiments. We want to give L.A. a sustainable lead to the whole world.

We embed a vertical farm in the site in order to reduce food mileage and provide low price organic food to people. There are solar panels and gray water reuse system on the farm tower, it can not only support the farm but also feedback to the neighborhood.

How we do it is that we cover the ground level to make it flat, and we lower the highway level twice deep to reduce the interference to the city. Between the highway and the ground level is infrastruction level and parking space. We rearrange the program on the ground level to link the commercial belt and form a plaza in the middle of the entire area. We set a platform on 30' high above the ground level. The platform extends many tentacles to attend and connect the open spaces scattered on this area. After that, we put several vertical farm towers. It provides not only food and energy but also a spirit and living style of Los Angeles.

In thiw project we, our main idea is not only bring people to the water, but also bring water to the people. Thus, the street level is void and allow peolple to go through. On the site itself, we keep the maxima of the natural land as a big ramp to connect people to the water.

In the beginning, I chose one object from manuscripts to be the basic element fugure of the form, then I changed the proportion and aggregated them upon a box by applying and carving. After many times of trying, I developed three ways to connect them-Positive to Positive to Positive, Positive to Positive to Negative, and and Negative to Negative. to Negative
