ince 1963, the focus at Wilbar has been the sound, functional, productive and attractive Angus cow. In the pages that follow, you will find some of our most influential cows that have contributed not only to our herd, but to the herds of top purebred and commercial cattlemen. You will also find some of our top young cows that represent the recent advancements within our program. In both groups of cows, you will notice sound udder and foot structure, depth of body and rib shape, attractive phenotype and overall function.

These are the sisters to the many bulls sold through our twenty-two annual Tools of the Trade Bull Sales. The bulls have been well accepted as breeding pieces in both purebred and commercial herds. We are proud of the production of our cow herd – both the performance and breeding ability of their sons and the productivity of their daughters. The Wilbar cow herd has been the source of breed legends like HF Kodiak 5R and Red Wilbar Cora 443P and 2013 RBC Supreme Champion Bull, Red Wilbar Longitude 646Y. But what we remain most proud of are the results our customers have achieved with our genetics. We are very grateful to experience such wide acceptance of the Wilbar prefix. Wilbar Jennifer 728C likely needs no introduction. She was Kylie’s 4-H and Junior project in 2015-16 and was successfully shown to achieve many titles including Grand Champion Female at the Hanley Beef Achievement Day, Bruno Lions Jackpot, Saskatoon Regional 4-H Show and the UFA Junior Show at FarmFair and a Top Ten placing in the Alberta Supreme. 728C is a model Angus female, combining exceptional thickness, depth of body and femininity.

Wilbar Jennifer 221R is a direct daughter of the matriarch of the Jennifer family and High Time 47G – a bull who was ahead of his time. Wilbar Jennifer 212X is one of the top Unforgiven daughters in our herd. She consistently raises sons at the top of the bull pen. She is the mother of Wilbar Cavalry 715C, our second high-selling bull to Autumn Dew Angus, SK in 2016. The first crop of Cavalry calves look exceptional. 212X also has four sons working in the herds of some of our top commercial customers. She has yet to give us a daughter, but we’re hoping for 2018!

Wilbar Ruby 722C is one of our favourite “C’s.” She was Owen’s first 4-H and junior project, earning many reserve titles – standing second to her half sister, Wilbar Jennifer 728C. Her first calf, Wilbar Commando 408E, is an exceptionally strong, calving ease candidate – stylish, thick and sound. Exactly what you would expect out of this young cow that goes back to one of the original six cow families at Wilbar. 722C was the 14th natural calf of her mother, 313K. Longevity seems a sure bet.

We consider 217X to be the ideal Angus cow. She is big bodied, smooth-fronted, moderate and has a strong udder. Easy keeping and highly fertile, she always raises a good one and breeds back on the first cycle. She boasts a weaning index of 109 on six calves.
