Welcome to our 15th Annual Bull Sale. Another year has quickly blown by and first off we would like to take the time to thank our customers, friends and anyone who has expressed interest in our program over the years; it’s greatly appreciated. Without the support of fellow cattlemen, friends and family there is no us.

Like any other farmer or rancher there never seems to be any down time. We are lucky that Riley is around full time to take on more responsibility and activities around the farm and leading up to the sale. Cody is in his final year at Kansas State University. His judging team was named Reserve National Champions. Congratulations K State!

We are a family run operation and are very passionate about what we are doing around here as the next generation becomes more involved. There isn’t a day that goes by that cows aren’t on the topic and how we can make a better product for you. We have been in the cow business a long time and our mission has not changed… we do what our customers want and demand. We raise cattle that make money for the commercial cowman. Yes, over the years we have shown a lot and been successful however, we have never lost sight of functionality and real world characteristics. We take great pride in the fact that the cattle we show are the same cattle that pay the bills and have worked for both the commercial cowmen and purebred breeders across the country.

We raise cattle that are functional and convenient. We have never been known to chase extremes and never will. Our cows graze on native grass until December, trailed home and put on alfalfa grass hay and water out of the river. Exercise consumes a large portion of their day which increases the longevity of our cow herd. Moderate framed, big middled, sound structured cows that have the ability to consume and do what they are supposed to do; calve, rebreed and look after themselves with minimal resources and raise an attractive, big calf that put extra dollars in your pocket.

Our cows have built this place, hardly any females ever sold. We feel you need to keep your best in order to build cow families and bring you the best bulls we possibly can. We take great pride in knowing the fact that our udders and feet are as good as any cow herd in the country. Yes, you can buy bulls anywhere in the county but we truly feel our cowherd sets us apart. In our opinion a bull is only as good as his mother!

This past fall we were honoured to have both the National Champion Simmental and Angus Female and finishing the year with both these females being top 10 qualifiers in the RBC Beef Supreme Challenge.

In saying this, this group of bulls has had us excited from day one. From keeping our very best females, it allows us to increase our bull numbers and do it with added quality and maternal strength. This year again, we bring you a very powerful set of Alliance sons. We have all seen the impact he has had across the country. Other sire groups will include the Agribition Champion, Royal Flush, Kill Switch, Final Affair, 298Z, Bentley and Exchange. A lot of these herd sires were bred and raised right here, which only enhances consistency and predictability in their offspring.

Our Angus project is also growing and we’re excited about the outcross genetics that we bring you. These boys will be highlighted by S&R Roundtable, Bluechip and Insight. These Angus bulls have added hair and muscle, while being extremely attractive and good footed. Our Angus cow herd is built from some of the very best; tried, tested and true cow families in the Angus business.

Whether you are looking for purebred Simmental, Angus, 7/8’s, 3/4’s, or half-blood bulls, we have something for everyone in all budgets. These bulls are developed in paddocks where exercise is a big part of their day, eating hay out of a bail feeder and hand fed grain. You won’t find the 1,700 lb. yearling bulls here because it’s not what we are after and it’s sure not realistic and economical to the commercial cowman to ensure longevity and soundness. I know when you read the sale report, the average may seem kind of high, but we will sell some awfully good bulls from $4,000 to $7,500 making them affordable for everyone. As doing our job as seedstock producers, we do sell some higher dollar bulls which creates a higher average, but I can assure you that there will be a bull for everyone at all price ranges.

Seedstock from Wheatland have enjoyed much success in breeding programs across the country, AI studs and cow shows across the nation but most importantly they have worked well for the commercial cowman who provides the best testing ground for any program. The bulls for 2019 bring you extreme quality and consistency. These genetic powerhouses have been developed with you in mind. After all, it’s you that makes it happen. From time to time, we all dream of betterment in our pursuits. Unfortunately for some, those dreams go unfulfilled. To fulfill a dream takes endless effort, sacrifice and goals. The dream for Vernon and Denise was to have a ranch, build a cow herd and rear a couple of young sons raised in an agricultural background. No doubt, the early years were lean, working off farm to make payments and working virtually 24-7 to build a cow herd and take care of two strapping young boys. I heard someone remark “that they were lucky”… Well, the more you apply yourself with goals and determination … the luckier you get. So, for these dedicated folks at Wheatland…congratulations for fulfilling your dream!

The breeding program at Wheatland will rank as one of the most successful in the world. Much of their success comes from common sense cattle knowledge that they have earned throughout the years by listening to their many commercial and purebred customers who believed in the Lafrentz philosophy and wisely selected a Wheatland sire to add a distinct value to their program. It is often said that, “Wheatland bulls cost a lot to own.” There is no substitute for quality, just look at the influence the Wheatland program has contributed in other great breeding operations.

No doubt, the entire family are very competitive in the show ring and have withstood many of the best programs in the nation. Winning Premier Breeder and Exhibitor at Canada’s largest beef exhibition, (Canadian Western Agribition) over the past decade or so has been common place. In 2018, four Supreme Champions and top 10 finishers were bred, owned or out of Wheatland females. Wheatland/Michelson exhibited Grand or Supreme Champions at all the major fall shows, the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto, Ag-Ex in Brandon, Farm Fair International in Edmonton and Canadian Western Agribition. A feat yet to be duplicated!

TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable at par at the sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made; no invoicing on buyers in attendance, unless previous arrangements have been made. Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in cases of disputes, the auctioneer’s decision will be final. Current exchange rates will be announced sale day. All monies are in Canadian funds.

BIDDING: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder... no by-bidding will be permitted. Disputes – Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved in dispute. If no further bidding is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision on all disputes will be final.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: All announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay close attention to such disclosures.

BREEDER’S GUARANTEE: Should any bull fourteen (14) months of age or over fail to prove a breeder after being used on females known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six (6) months following the date of purchase or six (6) months after the bull has reached fourteen (14) months of age. The seller will have the right and privilege of six (6) months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze.

EXCEPTION GUARANTEE: In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Simmental Association and the Canadian Angus Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made.

LIABILITIES: All persons attend the sale at their own risk. The seller, facility owner and sale manager assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents that occur. It is understood that Sale Management is acting only as a medium between buyer and seller and is not responsible for any failure on, the part of either party to live up to his obligations. Neither does Sale Management assume any financial obligations to collect or enforce collection of any monies between parties and any legal action that may in exceptional cases be taken must be between the buyer and the seller. Sale Management assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfillment of all guarantees and representations made hereunder.

RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS: The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and obligations of the two parties connected thereto are not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale.

PHONE, MAIL, WIRE BIDS: Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone, mail or wire their bids and instructions to the sale managers, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.

DELIVERY: We will assist in arranging transportation wherever possible. Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.

INSURANCE: Will be available sale day. We strongly recommend that insurance is purchased for full value.

ERRORS: All announcements at sale time, written or oral, supercede any written material in the catalogue.

In-Herd Semen: Wheatland Cattle Co. reserve the right to collect on any bull sold through the sale. The semen collection will be at Wheatland’s expense and buyer’s convenience. Any semen collected will be for in herd use only.
