Polled “Lemon” is what Harper named this heifer calf when she fell in love with her day one of halter breaking. She is the first daughter to sell out of the DC/CRJ Tank bull. He was the DeBruycker Charolais high seller in 2018. We were excited when we had the opportunity to purchase the exclusive Canadian semen rights alongside Hunter Charolais. The Tank bull is a unique breeding tool that combines calving ease, short gestation and exceptional growth. Lemon is a heifer calf that has a huge future in our eyes. She is an absolute gem to work with; a trait that the Tank calves all carry as they are very mellow. This female is broody, well balanced, has eye appeal and is sound to the ground. 19 In mid-2019 we made the decision to participate in the CWA 50th Anniversary Sale in 2020. With the circumstances surrounding the postponement of the 50th year of CWA, we felt it was most important to support the Superstar Sale as the premier event of 2020, showcasing top genetics from across Canada. Over the past 45 plus years we have sold a very limited number of breeding females and have worked very hard to develop a strong, useful cow herd based on the basic needs of our industry. Cedarlea’s females are generally moderated framed, good udder type with better than breed average for growth. We use genotype information to complement and enhance phenotype selection. We are extremely thankful for the overwhelming support year after year of our breeding program from commercial and seed-stock producers from across Canada. In 2020, we sold breeder bulls into 19 herds from six provinces; Quebec through British Columbia. Polled When Chris came out to the pasture, I gave him choice of the bred heifer pasture and he sure made it count. This is the first daughter of the Embargo 7E to ever leave this farm and may be the last. Embargo 7E was the high selling bull in our 2018 bull sale to Cline Cattle Co. in Manitoba. He has done an amazing job by producing a set of bulls that are well accepted by the purebred and commercial breeder and females that will raise you the good ones. This female is so easy fleshing with loads of rib, hair and top while setting down a beautiful udder. Her dam has done an amazing job for us with two daughters back in the herd. We know in order to promote our program we need to sell the good ones and here she is. We are sad to part with this one, but it will be a great opportunity for a breeder to add a top end female that will make a difference in their own herd. Don’t miss out on this one. The Semen Auction is a fundraiser run by the Canadian Charolais Youth Association (CCYA), where semen from top bulls in the breed are generously donated from various breeders across the country. All funds directly support the youth. The semen donated is auctioned off at one of the fall sales and all proceeds go towards programs of the National Board. Particularly, leadership scholarships are presented at the conference and show from funds raised through the Semen Auction, recognizing senior members on their contribution to the Charolais breed and their leadership among Charolais youth members. The CCYA National Board would like to thank everyone who donated and supported in the past for making our programs and scholarship opportunities possible for our youth.
