Branding the Best Bull sale Welcome to this year’s annual event on the ranch. I would say the offering is a culmination of a year’s work, but it is so much more than that. Every year when we look at the sale offering, we are reminded about the generations of cattle that lead to this day, as well as the loyal customer base it takes to support our passion. Thank you for the continued support! We run these cows like most commercial operations. The purebred cow herd runs with our commercial herd. We expect them to work, to travel and help us drive our costs down. Fertility, fleshing ability, structure, and maternal abilities are paramount. The bull calves that come from this program are expected to carry on these same traits. The cow herd is left for summer grazing in early June and will be grazing right up to calving.

The Red Angus division this year looks incredible. We used some new but proven herd bulls as well as a couple of mainstay sires that have proven themselves through their bulls as well as milking daughters. We think you will agree that’s it’s one impressive group The Black Angus group is down a bit in numbers this year but not in quality. Performance bulls that make it happen on a moderate frame, as well as sleep easy calving sires. The calves were weaned on October 2nd. Weaning weights represent what their dam was capable of, we don’t creep feed. Their diet this winter was formulated for a 2.5 lb ADG. Rumen and liver function are top of mind when developing these bulls. Every summer I am reminded about how much these bulls have to travel, and they can’t do it being over fleshed. On sale day, we do it a bit differently. The bulls will be housed on hard ground for you to evaluate feet and legs. No sense in hiding things. There is a small offering of two-year-olds again. They aren’t leftovers. There are some top tier herdbulls in this group. They summered on grass and were brought in at the end of November. Their ability to flesh up on a low energy diet is impressive. We stand behind the bulls 100%. We plan on doing this for a lifetime and the only way we can do that is with customer satisfaction. If you’re not happy, we aren’t happy. So with that, we invite you to the sale. If you cannot make it sale day, we would love to see you ahead of time. Sale day can be a bit hectic and it gives us more time to show you the pen as well as the cows behind them. We look forward to seeing you. Please note: The winter of 2019 was brutal, and we had 120 calves born in the longest, coldest stretch we have experienced. The intakes on the cows skyrocketed for a long period and, in turn, moved our birth weights up 5-10 lbs. No sense in adjusting numbers, we are just trying to be transparent. You might question a few of our calving ease ratings, but we have a wealth of history with the cow herd and know which ones will calve easily.

One needs to visit the ranch in the summer months and see the cow herd on grass, then you would realize why over eighty percent of the bulls go to repeat customers. Predictable bulls stem from great cow herds. The 2020 lineup offers a top set of red and black prospects which will add value to your program. As a feature, the first sons of Duralta 9C Onward 161E, will sell. These bulls are slowly developed after weaning and put on aTMR ration for growth without sacrificing soundness. This top set of bulls will suit any type of program or budget. The lead off, high selling bull from Duralta Farms in 2018. We hadn’t seen a calf with this type of performance on such a moderate frame score. He really was a man amongst boys in his contemporary group. His first calf crop looks incredible. The sons are high performing yet thick based and moderate framed with strong Angus character and a great foot. If you can come to look at his daughters, please do, they are the right kind. I’ve learned to not get ahead of ourselves on a new herd bull, but it’s hard not to here. He walked with 50 purebred cows last summer, and I think he might have gained weight doing it. From the heart of the Beckton program in Wyoming and proven at McArthur Livestock and Veno Ranches in Hanna, we jumped at the chance to use this proven sire. He calved easily on the heifers, and when used on some mature cows, he maintained a high level of performance, shape and early maturity. Our pick of the Lauron pen of bulls in 2016. Cassanova sons are noted for being exceptionally long spined, smooth fronted and very docile. We believe in using our own genetics if the right fit comes along and we are glad we incorporated Dominic into our program. The cow family behind him consistently sticks around past 10 years of age, highlighting his strengths of stayability, fertility, structural soundness, and production. We have used him on mature cows the past two years, but he keeps birth weight in line yet stamps his calves with muscle definition, early maturity, extra scrotal and hair. Dominic is a negative BW EPD sire, but you wouldn’t know it looking at the offering, they have muscle and growth.
