BRANDING THE BEST PRIVATE TREATY BULL SALE Welcome and thank you for your interest and continuing support. After hosting a bull sale at the ranch the past 4 years, we made the decision to sell bulls out of the yard going forward. It was always a dream of ours to host a sale at home and we did that. However, it just isn’t a fit for managing the work load here at an already busy time of the year. We hope you understand and we look forward to having time for more one on one visiting with you on farm This past year was sure a blur, and we all learned about what our cattle are capable of when push comes to shove. Through the help of many great neighbours, some creative ration balancing, and a lot of electric fencing, we were able to pull enough feed and grazing together to get the herd through. I’m not sure how, but as I write this intro, our main cow herd is still grazing stubble and regrowth in the middle of December. We never saw that as an option in July.

The bull pen is developing nicely and we look forward to showing you the offering. With the dry conditions, we were more aggressive than ever in deciding who stays and goes. There are a lot more purebred steer calves than bull calves this year. Whether you come in January or March, there are no leftovers in the pen. We don’t feed these bulls aggressively, shooting for a 2.25 to 2.5 lbs ADG. No calves were creep fed even though pasture conditions were difficult at times.

The 2 year olds were on grass in early June and stayed on grass until the middle of November. Since then, they are wintering on 80 acres on a diet of silage and tub ground canola/Kochia for extra seasoning. Cattle have 4 stomachs for years like this! They are sound, athletic and ready to work.

The 2 year old bulls represent a cross section of last years bull pen. Some saw use here or at customers pastures. They have not seen grain since April of 2021. They grazed until mid November when the snow got too deep. Since then they have been on a diet of silage and chopped forage on 80 acres and a water bowl.
