WELCOME TO THE 21ST ANNUAL HEJ BULL SALE!
Welcome to our bull sale! We appreciate your past interest and purchases and hope you will find a bull that meets your needs this year.
This season, we tried growing corn for the first time. Watching the crop thrive with ample moisture was exciting, resulting in an 18 ton/acre yield and high-nutrient silage. As a result, we have made some adjustments to our feeding program. After weaning, bulls received a TMR ration of barley silage/hay and whole oats. Beginning of December, we added corn silage and rolled barley. Currently, their ration is a TMR with half corn silage and half barley silage, mixed with ground first-cut hay, 7 lbs of oats, and 5 lbs of barley. Our goal is a steady 3 lb/day gain— the pen averaged 3.1 lb/day. We believe slow, steady growth promotes optimal health and structural longevity. It is always rewarding to hear from customers who still have a bull they purchased from us eight years ago!
The bulls available this year come from a ‘transition’ period as we are updating our herdbull pen to further improve our herd’s genetics. We have some ‘power’ bulls suited to mature cows. We are carefully introducing the new bulls to see how they fit with our breeding program. You will notice a mix of proven genetics with some fresh additions, and we are confident all of them will perform well for you.
Feel free to stop by anytime leading up to the sale to visit the bull pen, meet their dams or sisters, or just chat. Henrik often has coffee on and sometimes even shares ‘treats’ in the shed! Over the next month, the bulls will continue to grow and improve in appearance.

A tan Custom calf with loads of hair and guts. A bull that when you get behind him you can admire for his spring of rib and muscle shape.
Precision (AKA “T-Bone”) is tried and true. He was added to our program to add performance. His calves have impressive weights at wean and yearling. He is a cow bull, but he calves easy and we have used him successfully on heifers. We really like the bone he has added to the females from our heifer type sires. He has a super disposition and so does his progeny. Easy to work with females. He was used lightly in 2024, so only one in this sale, but what a good one!
Look at this bull! Look at those EPDs, look at those actual numbers! 83lb birth, 922 wean, 1268 Jan 2nd weight. A bull that has been a pleasure to watch grow into himself from a calf to yearling. Maternally this guy is strong. His dam’s maternal brother (HEJ Omega 85N, a Lunenberg son) also has outstanding performance and the family goes back to HEJ Delta Dawn 162D, and yes, she has an outstanding Viper son in the sale.

Kingdom is a bull we sold in 2023 but retained in herd semen use. We liked his performance, conformation, and pedigree. His two calves in the sale are proof our hunch was right; he would sire great calves.
Nobleman was on test at highway 21 so we had not seen his for a couple of months, but when he jumped off the trailer, hot dam he looked good, I even thought to myself, we should keep him! Lunenburg stamped his calves. They are thick, deep, nice shoulders and head. No fear has an 88lb birthweight and a wean of 900lb. Not too shabby coming from a heifer!
Well look at this soggy chunk of bull! This loose hided furry bull comes from a strong maternal line. He is a smaller framed bull which follows the style of his dam. Both his dam, and granddam are both very deep bodied, long, broody cows with good udders, and feet.

Lonestar was our pick of the HOWE Coulee bull pen in 2023. He has soundness, depth, and spring of rib. He is well muscled. Used him sparingly this first year, so we could get a handle on his capabilities.

Kershaw is shared with Brayshar Charolais, so he walked their herd over there, then got the privilege of being the main clean up bull in the herd in 2024. Because of this most of his calves are on the younger side.
One of the top gainers in the pen, 110 pound birthweight, 850 wean and 1250 January 2nd weight, this younger calf is excelling himself to being one of the top bulls in the pen. A bull you must admire for his depth, and muscle. All continued a good set of feet and legs. His mom is a very feminine, good milking cow and one that consistently produces a good calf.

We were very excited when we purchased this boy’s dam as a calf. She has not disappointed. Because of her EPD’s we decided to go with our tried, tested, and true heifer bull that would make the most desirable ‘cocktail.’ This resulting calf has not disappointed. Calved easily with a low birthweight and has grown into a desirable growthy calf. He has a great spring of rib. Very eye appealing. Sound on his feet. Purchased from Palmer Charolais as a cow bull. Used as a cleanup bull on late calvers for this crop of calves. He was a working machine; his cows were in the main calving pack the next year. His pen of bulls are generally larger framed and coloured. PROGENY
A hell of a bull from a favourite cow family. The HEJ Wilma line has produced many sale bulls and females running in the herd. His dam is a big bodied, long feminine cow with a nice udder. He is a top gainer in the pen. He is a very eye appealing free moving bull.
Another bull that was very tempting to keep as herdbull. A solid red, solid built, dark red bull. He is free moving, deep bodied, thick, long. His mother is probably the most photographed cow on the farm. She catches everyone’s eye, and for good reason. She is a deep, square hipped cow with a very nice udder. She produces top quality calves every year and I have confidence he will too.

Another freight train! That can probably be attributed to the fact that he shares the same Maternal granddam as NINA 105N (lot 27) Being a train also comes with birthweight, but with that extra rib you get the extra pounds. He is built very correct and has a nicely blended shoulder and neck.

Speaking of matriarchs of the herd…another bull that goes back to HEJ 162D. mother of lot 49 and granddam of lot 19 and great granddam of lot 9. Nanzio is a long bull, with a clean front and a clean sheath. He is in the top 4% for wean and top 10% for yearling EPD’s. He maybe last in the catalogue but he ranks 2nd in the pen for performance!

The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made; no invoicing on buyers in attendance, unless previous arrangements have been made. Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in cases of disputes, the auctioneer’s decision will be final. Current exchange rates will be announced sale day. All monies are in Canadian funds.
BIDDING: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder... no by-bidding will be permitted. Disputes - Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved in dispute. If no further bidding is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision on all disputes will be final.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: All announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay close attention to such disclosures.
