Welcome to the Section 7 Dispersal....

It’s been quite the year at Section 7...

Our hired help has gone off to further her education; graduating from high school and already attending the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon.

However, with Alexis going off to university, something had to give...thus, our Hereford dispersal. It is no secret that we also raise another breed on the farm, but it is also no secret, that we are great believers in the Hereford breed. I am amazed at the strides that have been made improving Herefords; not only by great cattlemen and women (many that have as much or more gray hair than I do), but also by so many young breeders who have “figured it out!”

It’s a big planet with deserts, valleys, coulees and mountainsides that don’t lend themselves to any form of food production other than some type of livestock. Bovine are a species you can put out there, ignore and they will fend for themselves. We believe that Hereford cattle are as adaptable as any breed and are a valuable component of the world’s cowherds. These cattle will stand some of the most extreme elements, including winter in South East Saskatchewan!

We are certainly not worried about the future of this breed and would appreciate your appraisal on October 24th.

October 24, 2015 will go down in history as a day of unlimited opportunities for those in the livestock industry. Only in a dispersal can one select from the heart of a herd and the core of predictable cow families.

The family is steeped in Hereford history. Alain’s father, Henry built and established the famous Circle D herd located a few miles east of Spy Hill, Saskatchewan, bordering the north banks of the Qu’Appelle Valley. With the untimely loss of their father, the seven brothers carried on the herd and livestock tradition...but too many brothers and not enough land base forced each into different venues. Karen, also, was born and raised in a Polled Hereford family. Her parents, Maurice and Mary Clegg founded the great Scissors Valley Polled Hereford herd located northwest of Rocanville, Saskatchewan, on the north banks of the Scissor Valley .... now the home of Section 7 Ranch. Although Alain and Karen did not live very far apart growing up (a valley separated them), they got acquainted with each other competing at livestock shows. A generation later, Alexis carries on that competitive nature.

Family values are priority at Section 7. This family is dedicated to agriculture, namely purebred livestock; each and every member, including Jack, contribute their portion of expertise adding value in making operations run as efficient as possible.... the cow herd was built in the same manner; in which each cow family added its own productive record, enhancing the strength of the cow herd. The cow families are predictable and productive, but most importantly...”the kind of cattle that work for Alain DeCorby” ...extra performance, fertility and soundness.

This dispersal offers fresh new genetics, complete with a great set of numbers...rarely do you find a herd where more than ninety percent are above the breed average in total maternal....the most important of raising beef cattle ....pounds at weaning and milking ability. In this program, the ease of calving is taken for granted and selection for udder type is a main criteria. There are individuals in this cow herd that will build their own history in years to follow, as these females are a low risk investment that will add value to every breeding program.

Ranchers, take note of the wintering program offered on all bull calves selling. What a great time to select a bull from the top of a calf crop where you can see the mother in production and all other family members. Send him back to Alain’s and pick him up next spring, ready for the pasture and also save a little tax.

Plan to be with us on October 24th for another chapter of Hereford history. If you are serious about breeding and producing “cutting edge” seed stock, make sure and be in Whitewood.

Bulls and Wintering: Terms - 50% due sale day with a post-dated cheque for the balance dated April 1, 2016.

• A wintering program is available on all bull purchases.

• All bulls must be insured.

• Herd bulls will be semen tested prior the sale.

• All 2015 bull calves that are wintered will be semen tested prior to pickup and guaranteed to pass a semen test.

• A wintering fee of $600.00 per bull which includes semen testing is payable at the time of the sale.

• 2015 bull calves taken at the time of the sale will sell with no further guarantee.

• All bulls must be picked up by April 30, 2016.
