Sandan Annual Production Sale

Page 1

From the desk at T Bar... We have reached the stage in the beef cattle industry that every cow/calf operation requires Charolais influence in their program to get top market share on their calves. Although it has been happening for the past two or three decades, in the past two fall seasons, we have seen a strengthening demand for buckskins, silvers and even straight whites as feeders and packers look for higher dressing weights and greater profit margins. Over the past ten years, we have seen a rebuilding of the cow herds to more British base females that require the Charolais bull to give calves heterosis and more weaning pounds coming in off grass. With the North American cow population at all-time lows, the fall of 2010 might be the last opportunity to purchase bred females at affordable values. (I believe the cows purchased this fall could well be the highest profit earning females one can acquire.) The sale offering we have here does not come by chance. The Sandan program is solid proven by the successful annual bull sale held each March, where over three quarters of the bulls sell to repeat customers each sale. (There is a reason that these folks keep coming back.) Ursula has selected walking bulls that add a special requirement in her mating decisions. Always keeping performance in mind, she has tried to improve birth weights and calving, hair and docility, but she gets really critical when it comes to udders and udder types. Since they have two calving seasons, spring and fall, Ursula does not have the time or man power to fuss with bad udders, big teats or cows that will hunt you down in the pen. These are real cattle for real people who would like to make a living and a profit in the beef cattle industry. It is sad to see New Country disperse as they have been solid Charolais supporters and breed enthusiasts. But as time marches on, consider the opportunities that await you sale day. This program has bred a few national champions and has been competitive at virtually every event they have attended. Here you can select from the heart of the entire herd whether you are looking for a donor type mother or her daughter. From this dispersal, there will be a few purchases that will make history in the years to follow so do not miss the chance. This sale offering, both SDC and New Country are similar in some genetics and diverse in others. There is a powerful group of Charolais cattle to select from. Whether you are looking for a junior heifer for 4-H or Saskatoon for your youngsters, a donor female to propagate a new cow family or just what most breeders do in the Charolais, raise bulls to benefit the livestock industry, the offering is powerful and worth the trip or the call. Remember in most cases the first bull calf will pay for or exceed the mother. Plan to be with us on December 11th, for one of Canada’s only production sales and Alberta’s only dispersal. Feel free to stop by prior the sale for a preview and both operations are not that far apart or call either operation as they will be ever so happy to assist. As usual, if we at T Bar C, may be of any assistance, prior to or sale day, feel free to give Chris or myself a call. Be the last bidder on the goods ones! Ted

Welcome... Friends and fellow breeders, this is your special invitation to be with us on Saturday, December 11, 2010 for our production sale and the New Country Dispersal Sale. We offer you a very young group of working females selected to be herd builders for our purchasers. They have been chosen from cow families that have paid their way here at Sandan and selected in a manner that they would be the ones we would buy for ourselves. As you will see, we are not offering any bull calves as all will be kept until our spring bull sale on March 19th, 2011. We would especially like to invite our friends, neighbors and commercial customers to see the offering (as many of the females are sisters to the bulls on offer in the spring sale) and be guests for a noon luncheon and a bit of holiday hospitality. Feel free to drop by prior the sale to view the offering (New Country is thirty minutes away if you want to see them all) or visit with us at the fall shows. The Charolais influence has been very evident at the fall calf sales and the future looks brighter for the cattle industry. If we may be of any assistance, prior the sale or sale day, do not hesitate to give me a call. Hope you can attend sale day Ursula

“Flame” could well be the leadoff lot in the sale order. Entered at Agribition, this prospect is packed with maternal power and carries the style and performance required to be a donor down the road. Her mother was an Agribition class winner as a yearling and now is a front pasture cow in the herd. Since we have three sisters to 82X, we can part with this opportunity for all.

“Hope” is a tan colored member of our current show team and a sale feature. She combines stoutness and performance with style. For the juniors who plan to exhibit in Saskatoon in July 2011, this heifer will be ideal … great disposition, halter broke and will develop into a feature cow. Her mother, 609S is a daughter of SDC Ferrugo, the high selling bull in our 2004 Bull Sale.

By adding outcross Full French into the program, we have added a combination of different genetics and heterosis all in one mating. The maternal strength of her mother’s side will insure good udders and milk. Check out her full sister selling as lot 7.
