The Royal National Angus Sale - 2022

A MONUMENTAL EVENT

The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair is an event that sweeps through the entire purebred livestock sector. Everyone knows about it. A vast majority attend or are apart of it in some way. At those who haven’t yet mark it as a must-do on their bucket list. This event pays tribute to those who walked into the main Coliseum 100 years ago that pioneered this event, those who walk their cattle to tie-outs under the QEW, and those who drive their truck and trailer through the Queen’s Gates out front off the Lakeshore. The atmosphere and memories made here are unmatched to any National level show out there. From hauling livestock to the show in train cars, to the big spotlight in the Ring of Excellence, the heritage surrounding this show is allencompassing. It goes without saying, there has been a hole in the first week of November for the past two years that the Royal was on hiatus due to Covid. But anyone involved is proud to say that it is coming back with a vengeance. You do not want to miss it. And what better way to celebrate this come-back then to host the National Angus Sale in the prime-time spot on Saturday night. All the heat is here in this catalogue. The top class of heifer calves included are born to compete and are absolutely impossible to resist purchasing. I dare say, this has to be the deepest quality of frontend heifer calves to go under the gavel in my Royal sale history. An interesting division in this book is the high-quality selection of bull calves on offer. These three herd sire candidates have been carefully evaluated and studied to meet all credentials, with each bull offering something slightly unique. Two exceptional bred heifers to move your outfit forward, with some very rare and exclusive frozen genetics, that are only obtainable through this sale. But the highlight of the sale is not only fitting to the whole celebration of the 100th Centennial of the Royal, but an accomplishment we may never see again in our time. Bill and Sylvia Jackson are some of the best people the Angus business has ever had. Having a membership for 100 years is so historic, and all of us at T Bar C are proud to celebrate this accomplishment. We ask you to gather at the start of the sale to honor this great program, where they will be offering something never done before… the pick of their calves. I remember in the summer calling Paula Cornish and telling her my idea for Lot 1, and the first thing she said was…. “You have to do this!” Bill and Sylvia, from the bottom of our hearts, congratulations.

To conclude, you can understand how special we are making this 100th Celebration with this National Angus Sale. We’d ask you to please consider the offering, and make every attempt to join us live, for what promises to be a no miss event. For everyone at T Bar, and everyone involved in the Royal, let’s make this one to never forget. As always, please call any one of us on staff with any questions!

Pictured Above: The Coliseum in 1922. After the First World War, a group of farmers, led by a man from Brooklin, Ontario, urged to create a National Agricultural Exhibition. The main goal of this group was to set a national standard for the judging of domestic animals. The legacy of this event has evolved over the last 100 years to be recognized on a world-wide stage, and we are proud to be involved in creating a genetic marketplace on these historic grounds.

ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF THE ROYAL | ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF TULLAMORE ANGUS

We are proud to be a part of what is truly a momentous occaison, with the Royal hosting its 100 year celebration. But what makes it even more special is that in the same year, it is the 100 year anniversary for the legendary Tullamore Angus. Founded in 1922, Tullamore Angus carries one of the lowest active breeder registration numbers in the Canadian Angus Association. Bill and Sylvia of Tullamore are tremendous supporters not only to fellow breeders nationwide, but place heavy consideration upon the youth programming for junior members within the breed. The farm’s home base is situated a mere 14 kilometres from Pearson International Airport, and is always a pleasure to visit. The history and heritage surrounding this nationally known program is endless. Never again will we see two 100 year celebrations converge like this. I find it so fitting to have Tullamore as Lot 1, under the bright lights of Lakeshore Boulevard in Downtown Toronto. As a junior member in my 4-H days, Bill was the voice of the Royal, his curtain call at ringside of the National Junior Beef Heifer Show is memorable to any that have walked one in the ring. The Jackson family will now reside at their new beautiful farm near Zephyr, Ontario to carry on their Angus program. This lot consists of picking any 2022 or 2023 heifer calf born at Tullamore. This has never been offered before, and is very unique. As many will agree, they don’t make them like Bill and Sylvia anymore, and all of us are proud to celebrate this milestone event at the 100th Centennial of the Royal. Pick to be made by August 1, 2023.

crazy thing is, the Showman females may be even better than their brothers…we’ve seen

the fall of 2021. 386C had already produced Six Mile’s $23,000 high selling bull in their 2019 bull sale as well as an $18,000 female to Allison Farms and they have retained a full brother to 16K for in herd use. We could have just as easily named this guy “Show Me the Numbers”. His 68 lb birthweight reads like a dream, along with CE and BW EPDs in the top 6% of the breed. WW and YW in the top 5%, while still maintaining REA, FAT and MM in the top 10%! Where else are you going to find numbers like that!!! But the proof is in the pudding and this stud has a terrific herd bull look right from his perfect head to his powerful, flawless structure that easily struts around. This guy just looks like pounds! Performance and pedigree in a pound heavy package! We wouldn’t be surprised if the new owners make their own history with this guy. Selling 3/4 interest, full possession.

SHOWING CATTLE

When the decision is made to commit to putting forth the effort to exhibit cattle at the National Show level, the undertaking can be daunting. That being said, I know that as a child some of my fondest memories of growing up were made showing cattle… and as any exhibitor will know, some of my most disappointing ones. The competitive edge, drive, and hours of utilizing a hard work ethic that goes into this sport is overwhelming. The life lessons learned along this road are invaluable; the knowledge on how to improve from where you are that is gained from participations in these competitions is like nothing else in life. The rich, deep-rooted history of the Royal is what makes the first week of November the most special time of the year. I remember being in the Royal barns, and everything else going on in life and the world faded away, it all stopped for the Royal. The expenses that you exhibitors have put out does not go unnoticed, and I certainly appreciated by the members in showcasing this large breed of cattle. At T Bar C, we are proud to be involved with the heritage surrounding the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, and encourage everyone’s attendance for the star-studded lineup featured on Saturday night. So plan to be ring side, take in the events. If this is your first Royal experience, I assure you that you will enjoy yourself, and will be keen to do it again. If you are a Royal veteran, there is no need to explain the anticipation of this 100-Year Centennial, as it has the ingredients to be the best one ever!
