9th Annual

Simmental Bull & Female Sale

Monday,

FEBRUARY 11, 2013 1:00 p.m. Ste. Rose Auction Mart, Ste. Rose du Lac, MB 1

Hello and Welcome Everyone

With positive aura strongly radiating from beef & cattle markets in the Americas, commercial and purebred breeders alike need to be constantly evolving and moving forward. It is so easy to get stuck in a rut and only look at a few things that have worked in the past, but marching forward is the only way to go. Here at Rendezvous Farms, we march forward with our vision and belief of a stronger cattle and beef industry that has never ceased to exist and never will. Hence, Rendezvous Farms’ 7th decade of existence. We believe to have brought forward to our long-time faithful and loyal customer base some better and stronger genetics, year in and year out.

Mart & Restaurant on Monday February 11, at 11:30 am. We have awaiting you a complimentary warm dinner and the best of refreshments to be served before, during and after our 9th Annual Bull & Female Sale, as well as our stylemark dessert: plenty of fresh Tim Horton’s donuts for one and all!

As I review and analyze this year’s offering of some 90 future herd bull prospects, and 23 purebred replacement females, is it fair for this writer to casually mention that my sons have advanced their knowledge in the domain of purebred cattle breeding. Gerald and David relentlessly spend a major portion of their time with our ever expanding purebred herd. Although I am biased, I do believe with conviction that they have assembled for your inspections and selections a truly exceptional group of pedigreed animals, with the best of fundamentals in association with strong visual characteristics.

I insist you call or text David or Gerald in regards to any questions you may have, or better yet to arrange for a visit of our bull and heifer pens. My sons have urged me as I write this introspection to heavily emphasize Rendezvous’ strong breeding guarantees. All bulls and females are fully guaranteed and all bulls will be semen tested by sale day. Hence, we at Rendezvous Farms will still make all attempts to assure customer satisfaction.

Rendezvous’ auction sale day will feature ‘live-in-the-ring’ bulls and females, with all lots to sell entering the sales ring right before your own eyes. The auction action shall begin at 1:00 pm sharp, under the mallet of our auctioneer, Colonel Chris Poley.

In closing, it is my firm belief that each and every one of us making a living in agriculture should constantly remind ourselves that navigating crosscurrents will always be challenging. We must not forget at the end of the day, what the greatest reward for us producing farmers was. No, it was not monetary. We agriculturalists, to our credit, are owners of this truth that we, on a daily basis contribute to feeding people across the world and saving lives. Very simple to comprehend, no food, no human life. It is the produced food from us farmers that is fed to billions of hungry human beings around this planet Earth. Agriculture always favored the brave and always will.

David & Gerald have tried hard to fulfil everyone’s needs. Displayed in this easy to read catalog are generous offerings of high quality Full Flecks, Fullbloods, Purebreds, and Reds. Also, for the 2013 sale, we have for you on offer this first-ever group of ranch raised and bred Black Rendezvous Simmental bulls. Sales Management Comments Welcome to another edition of the Rendezvous Farms Simmental Bull & Female Sale. This herd is built off the principles instilled by three generations of Maguet Family breeding livestock. This is a reputation program that, as mentioned, has a long established foundation backing it up. However, it appears the “cream has risen” and as it should be, the product should be improved upon from one generation to the next.

red sons) will initate Rendezvous to the Black Simmental bull market. A feature to the bull sale will be lot # 33, “Specialist”, who along with his “get-of-sire”, both male and female included in the sale is a “no-brainer’ to see this easy doing mature herdsire’s breeding attributes through his progeny alongside him. These opportunities are not found often and I do have to admit that I am a little responible for this decision after seeing “Specialist” in December that with a little arm-twisting he ended up in the sale. Herdbull for sale!

This is exemplified by the extra attraction that the public bull buying community has gained in large steps for the past few years. We at Transcon are very pleased to have been working with Rendezvous Farms while this modern day success has come to fruition.

When Darren and I saw the heifer group that was sorted for the sale, it was crystal clear that there was a strong attempt to offer a stronger group than ever, combined of Fleckvieh Fullbloods and some real fancy, deep-bodied Red Simmi replacements.

A lot of the success at Rendezvous has been because of the never-ending search for new herdsires. This practice has been seen as the main ingredient for success in so many of the most successful herds ever. But directly relating it to Rendezvous Farms, the high quality sets of brothers incorporated into sire groups will be outstanding. The Fullblood bulls will be sired by SU Paramount, Draco, IPU Nero, Double Bar D Legend and MFI Jahari. Some pretty impressive prefixs on that list! The red bulls will be sired CMS Icon, Rendezvous Red Caesar, IPU Red Hummer and IPU Rubicon. These are true performance Red Simmental bulls that are created from foundation Fullblood pedigreed cows. This will be the first year to ever sell Black Simmi bulls with a Rendezvous tattoo, they being a sire group all their own. IPU Black Shamrock (who also has some top

Rendezvous Farms has become a very impressive agriculture establishment, operating 250+ registered Simmental cows and continually growing their grain farm base to now over 3800 acres, total all in, more than 6000 acres including hay and pasture land. I think it’s good to know that when you are buying Rendezvous bulls you are buying from an operation that is cognizant of the food supply around the world and are doing their small part to contribute and thusly make a living from being food producers. Photo taken September 2011. We are proud to be offering another fantastic set of Icon bull calves here in Manitoba. We purchased Icon from Czech Mate Simmentals & Remington Cattle Co and it has been one of the best decisions we have made. Since we couldn’t attend the sale, Jay Good of Transcon, with his sharp eye for cattle, inspected him and purchased Icon on our behalf. He was the high selling herdbull of the day, commanding $16,000.00. I had the opportunity to view Icon’s dam CMS Melody 03M in the fall of 2008 and was extremely impressed. A deep bodied, beautiful, fault free cow that is a herdbull maker. CMS Red Polled Icon 16P is the homozygous polled, non-dilutor bull that we had been searching for. He is long like a freight train, moves like a cat and is extremely quiet. This bull is exceptionally smooth and has a really nice head, translating into calving ease. The Icon calves are born by themselves, they come small and easy at birth and then just take off. These Icon calves display a lot of style, dark color, length, soundness and growth. Icon’s sons in the last few sales have been very well accepted and averaged over $5000, all selling to top end commercial producers across the Prairies and into the Dakotas. Buy an Icon bull with confidence or better yet, buy a few and run them together.

Paramount passes on his strong red color and pigmentation to all of his calves along with his tremendous length and square quarters. Crossing Paramount on Kingbuster daughters seems to really work well for us. He has been a very consistent producing bull and his calves have great hair. Paramount’s sons are extremely popular with anyone using Fullblood bulls to add power and performance to their herd. We also own Paramount’s dam, SU Kameo 55K. She is one of the breed’s power cows.

His sire is the $38,000 Wheatland Red Hummer 608S who was purchased by Double Bar D and Swan Lake. The dam is a tremendous R Plus Red Ribeye cow who goes back to LaBatte’s famed IPU Red Pocahontas 105L cow. The 105L cow is the dam of Robb Farms’ famed 71N cow that has made them big dollars in the last few years. Enough about pedigree and past accomplishments, the IPU Red Hummer 217U bull saw heavy service the last few breeding seasons after seeing how his first crop developed so well. What we really like about Hummer is his large, wide, square made quarters. When you walk behind him, one can’t help but be impressed with the pair of pants he boasts. His length & scale is another huge selling point. He is maturing into an elite herdsire here at the farm. Hummer’s calves are born easily and at two days of age, they are all the same -- low set and the widest topped babies on the place. Hummer has ten top sons on offer for February 11, all from natural service of course. They are truly the “cowboy kind.”

Draco walked the pastures for three seasons at North SIDE before making his way south to Rendezvous. This particular bull has always been of interest to many. A true herd bull in the making with his solid structure, legs properly placed under each corner and a true mighty stance. A radically long bodied and equally deep made bull, he displays a great spring of rib and is well filled in the flank, plus has lots of hair. An all meat, no potatoes kind of bull that we thoroughly enjoy raising. The mother to this bull is an elite, beautiful young Paramount cow. She has lots of depth, volume, milk and knows how to produce the good ones. Her first bull calf was purchased for $6500 and he is now working in the great state of South Dakota at Glen Aldentaler’s excellent herd.

A colorful bull who’s chuck full of meat and muscle. These two twins are truly peas in a pod and should be fairly easy to find in the pasture. Low set, thick and an all-around very solid individual with a stellar pedigree. Last year’s maternal brother was the heaviest in our entire offering and also one of our high sellers, going to one of the Parkland’s reputation cow herds of Murray Showdra’s.

Very similar to his full brother, 558Z is another tank hovering just above the ground. We are truly hoping that the dam of these two bulls will give us a heifer this year since she’s only been producing bulls. Other brothers have sold to repeat customers such as Maurice Theoret of Ste. Rose and Ray Girard of Lake Francis. No guess work with this pair of bulls. Double up on these guys and use them together.

By sale day, this guy will be just over a year of age; however, one would think he’s older than that. A double polled Fullblood bull that comes to us from an excellent producing, dark red, beautiful uddered Kingbuster cow. Kelly and Lorraine Johnson paid top dollar to own the last two sons from the 57S cow. The trend behind running multiple brothers in the same herd is catching on more and more every year and it’s simple why; uniformity and consistency, bringing you a premium when it comes time to sell your calf crop.

Here’s an awesome Polled Fullblood bull who reminds us a lot of when we purchased his sire IPU Nero. Low to the ground, tons of hair, deep bodied, full in the flank and just easy keeping. We really like the cow family behind this bull as well. They are all the “never miss” type of females who bring home the top cut, every year. A maternal brother is working in the large, progressive herd of Salty Lake Farms Inc., of Watrous, SK.

Another polled IPU Nero bull that exhibits extra depth of rib, he’s low to the ground and comes from a real bull making factory. The dam’s track record is exceptional. She’s put more bulls into leading Manitoba and Saskatchewan commercial herds than most. Last year’s calf sold to repeat customers, Derreck and Aimee Kolla of Cudworth, SK. The 3 P’s are standard features on this guy: Power, Polled, and Performance.

A younger bull who’s low set, moderate, deep bodied and full of meat. Get behind him and you’ll be impressed with his super square hind quarters, plus he’s got great hair to boot. If you’ve got some Hereford based cows, this bull could definitely fit in your program. With Kingbuster and the New Zealand bred LJB Jade bull on the bottom side, there will certainly be some maternal power in this individual.

What a performance oriented kind of bull and to boot he’s even polled. This is one of the younger Fullblood bulls in the offering and yet, he stacks right up with the early January bulls. 71Z’s rate of gain is truly notable, with a WPDA of 4.43 lbs at weaning, ranking 1 out of a group of 56. His style and presence is to be appreciated, along with his great hair coat and long, fluid stride. This bull should raise some sale barn topping steers and dandy replacement females. His mother is indeed Full Fleckvieh which makes this guy about 31/32 Fleck for those of you keeping track. Honestly though, we just really like his growth and substance.

A sharp looking Fullblood bull that will do a lot of things right. We’re huge advocates of good hair on bulls and 704Z fits the requirements. A moderate framed, easy keeping, thick made bull with a fantastic, proven pedigree. The maternal aspect on this bull shouldn’t be overlooked as we find some of the breed’s elite matrons in his pedigree. Also, his milk EPD is through the roof, ranking him in the top 3% of the Simmental breed. Calving ease will be excellent with this bull, just look at his head and shoulders. Plus he was born unassisted at 79 lbs to a first calf heifer.

This particular bull has a lot of style and substance and has had that attention grabbing look since he was a day old. Tons of middle, muscle shape and a great top line. We only have 3 Legend sons selling and they are all ¾ brothers, quite easy to see when viewing them. Consistency is sometimes an overlooked trait, but this isn’t the case when you can select your bulls from a one iron outfit and see all of their pen mates. Make sure you’re the last bidder when the hammer falls on this guy.

Sired by our calving ease Full Fleckvieh sire, Double Bar D Legend, born at 79 lbs unassisted. 469Z is a bull we like. He displays great phenotype, fantastic hair and true eye appeal. His mother is a lovely Supreme daughter and she’s done a great job on her first calf. If you’re following cow families closely, be sure to check out Lot 66 as he is a maternal brother to the dam of 469Z.

Here’s a powerful Paramount son who’s as soggy made as they come. Low to the ground, built like a brick house and comes to us from some tremendous parents. The dam is a beautiful, feminine, easy keeping, good milking female who has another son working in the good herd of Magnusson Farms Inc., Arborg, MB. There’s only one thing left to do with this bull and that’s to bring him home to your herd and use him!

One of only two Paramount sons on offer this year so if you haven’t used one, it’s high time you do! When visiting with bull customers, the most common statement made is “You can’t beat those Paramount sons.” Last year, his sons were our highest averaging through nine sire groups. That’s a pretty bold statement from our fellow cattlemen. This particular bull is dark red in color, long as a freight train and full of power. We sold the pick of our bred heifer pen at the National Trust 2011 sale in Olds, AB. The Caumartins were the successful bidders and selected a maternal sister to 409Z. Buy with confidence on this awesome Fullblood bull.

The youngest bull in the entire offering, however, still a humdinger. 101Z brings a totally different pedigree to us as we purchased his mother as one of the high selling mature cows at the 2011 Bonchuk Farms female sale. We feel that this young bull should grow into a fairly heavy sized bull since his mother is a larger cow and traces back to some good old Extra Best and Universe 28U breeding. None the less, this Fullblood bull is very deep bodied, mellow and clean fronted. Be sure to check him out. He could end up being the sleeper of the sale.

Polled Full Fleckvieh. A polled Full Fleckvieh bull that came to us in dam from the Bonchuk Farms sale. A moderate made, very smooth shouldered bull that will surely follow in his father’s footsteps and work well in the heifer pen. Coupled with his excellent disposition it is difficult not to like this bull. Check out his Milk EPD’s +15.3, which brings him to the top 5% of the entire Simmental breed. Add to the fact that his mother is sired by none other than the legendary Houston bull. Combined all together, this makes for a very interesting calving ease prospect.

Homozygous polled, outcross pedigree, and wide topped like the state of Texas. This is a real working man’s beef bull. He’s chuck full of meat from start to finish. We retained her second calf in the replacement pen and 46Z is her first bull calf. There should be a lot of maternal power in this bull since the grand dam stayed on the ranch until 14 years of age.

A middle of the road bull sired by the IPU Specialist herd sire which you will get a chance to view on sale day in Ste. Rose. The dam is a long bodied, easy keeping, great milking, red white faced mother cow. Her first calf was a heifer who is now working at MJD Farms Inc of Carman. 455Z is her second calf who’s selling and she just had a black baldy bull calf in early January. He hasn’t missed a beat since then either. This massive bull rocked the scale at weaning time, weighing in at 1060 lbs in mid-September. Honestly, we all get excited every time we analyze this bull. Richie Joynt may have said it the best: “Wow, this bull sure has a lot of real estate.” He most certainly does! The dam is a young, lovely, middle of the road female with a picture perfect udder who just calved in early January, giving us a heifer this year. If you’re serious about the beef business, 618Z will be your top choice. Let’s see who came to buy a herd bull on February 11!

Another outstanding herd bull prospect. If you haven’t used an Icon son, we highly urge you to do so. Length, depth, thickness and eye appeal all go hand in hand with this genetic combination. We are committed to raising bulls for the commercial beef industry and it’s bulls like 526Z that make our job a lot easier. Talk to Neil or Patricia Bray about these Icon bulls, as they currently have seven sons working in their top cut herd. The Brays also selected a full brother to 526Z in last year’s sale for $5200.

Be sure to check out this wide topped, low set, meat-hanging-everywhere beef bull. To top it off, he has a great hair coat and excellent disposition. I had the opportunity to purchase this guy’s full brother, sight unseen a few years back for Brian Friesen of Winkler. We’d sure like to see you with us on sale day, however, if any one of us or the team at Transcon can be of assistance, be sure to give us a call and discuss your needs.

Denna Farms owners, Donna & Denis Parthenay of Ste Rose.

A moderate framed individual out of a very deep bodied Anchor “T” Rocky cow. These Icon sons have been very well accepted by all beef producers. They are the efficient, functional types that are so right for the times. This February born bull is low set and should calve exceptionally well, with his smooth shoulders and clean front end. A full brother is working at Crocus Ridge Simmentals. Just ask Ron Melnyk how pleased he is with his herd sire.

These successful cattle & grain owner/operators have purchased over the years from Rendezvous a very large number of Simmental bulls, get this, 61 bulls for their strong cow/calf operations. This is proof of our repeat, satisfied, & loyal customer base. Denis & Donna farm alongside brother Gilles Parthenay. A genuine thank-you to the Parthenays.

I don’t want to be repeating myself, but when writing these notes on the Hummer sons, I always come up with the same descriptions. However, this proves consistency and that is something that you can not put a face value on. This super long, solid red meat machine will be a true profit maker for his new owner. If you’re looking to add pounds to your calf crop, look no further. 524Z was the heavy weight champion at weaning time, weighing in at a whopping 1120 lbs. The numbers don’t end there. His EPD’s speak of great performance and he’s got a hat trick in the Weaning, Yearling and Maternal Weaning departments, ranking in the top 1% of the breed. Numbers aside, it’s our eyes that still make that last decision and this bull ranks at the very top for a reason. He’s as thick as bugs on a bumper, which is the Hummer trademark here at RF. Great hair coat, blaze faced, exceptionally long bodied and THICK. This is truly a powerful herd bull for the cattleman that likes heavy weighing calves at weaning and super productive replacement heifers.

We spare no expense when selecting herd bulls for our program and we feel the results are well worth it when you can pick and choose from large, uniform sire groups such as these. The Gilmores of Bar 7 Farms Ltd., share the same philosophy and selected a full brother to 611Z in last year’s sale for $6600. These performance bulls are what we all need to stay in the marketplace.

A bull that reminds us a lot of his sire, Hummer, he seems to have that same shape of head and natural thickness. He tested inconclusive to being homozygous polled but he did test conclusive to being darn good. A middle of the road individual who will sire the right kind of cattle for today’s industry. The first bull from the Diamond 61T cow is working at Jim and Pat Zuk’s of Komarno. This was the first Simmental bull for the Zuks and they couldn’t be any happier, especially when they topped the market in Winnipeg with their Rendezvous sired calves. He was no slouch at weaning time either considering he’s a February born calf. With Jahari and Kingbuster on the bottom side there’s plenty of power in the pedigree.

We didn’t get a good picture of 83Z, however, once seen in person, it makes things a lot better. Being an awesomely long bodied beef machine is the name of the game when it comes to 18Z. If you’re serious about adding pounds of beef to your calf crop, this is an ideal candidate for the task at hand. Weaning off his mother at 1005 lbs this fall, did we mention that his dam was a first calf heifer! All summer long, this was a pair that made a lot of head turns, and rightfully so. When a young female can produce this caliber of calf and wean that amount of pounds, I think this is what we all strive for as cow/calf producers. 18Z will knock all the horns off since he tested homozygous polled.

The picture for this bull virtually eliminates the need for a footnote. We call this “Beef on the hoof”. This super wide topped bull is as thick butted as they get. Full of meat and muscle, excellent hair, large testicles, full in the flank, 637Z needs to be seen in person to really appreciate all he has to showcase. Mama did a heck of a job on her first calf, and we are just starting to see these Hummer daughters come into production and man, they bring the game to a whole other level. In a perfect world, we’d be keeping this bull to use in our own herd, however, he’s related to most of our red cows therefore he sells in his entirety. Truly a sale feature.

A solid, correct made, Caesar 584 son who’s got a lot of eye appeal and style. This eye catching rascal is beefy, straight backed, and made the way we like them. He was born small at 85 lbs and then took off like a rocket sled on rails and just kept growing. A candidate for the heifer pen as well, be sure to have a good look at this bull and mark him down in your catalog.

A chunky, solid made, deep bodied individual born from a first calf heifer. As I’ve watched 26Z, I’ve come to the conclusion that he can convert air into pounds of beef. Talk about an efficient, moderate built bull. As cowherds grow larger, the trend is to calve later on in the spring, using bulls like this guy will assure success in the cow/calf industry.

Here’s a powerful and robust meat wagon. You could serve lunch on his back and still have room to spare. Cattle producers always rank these single cross red bulls as their favorites, and rightfully so. They incorporate the best of both worlds into a great package. We’re quite impressed with IPU Shamrock’s calf crop performance. Combine that with the legendary growth of the Paramounts and you have a pretty impressive equation, hence 583Z. The premium for heavy weight calves is only trending higher, so bulls such as this are the ones to use.

This blended formula is something that we are true believers in. When skimming through the pedigree, take note of all the maternal strengths from these reputable genetics.

Long bodied, square made quarters all presented in a moderate made package with an 81 lbs birth weight. This fella also has a balanced set of EPD’s. Check out this deep ribbed, mellow made, red blaze faced bull. A square hipped, soggy, thick butted individual who moves like a cat, 28Z has caught the eye of quite a few cattlemen in the pen this fall including none other than Transcon’s Jay Good. The dam is a long bodied, tidy uddered Mainz female who’s sent progeny into the herds of Bill and Cory Mandziuk, Bar 88 Ranch and Crimson Creek Simmentals. A herd bull for the cattleman who demands quality.

Here’s a younger red bull, but don’t overlook him due to his age. His mother is one of our very best cows. She is a super deep ribbed, thick, easy keeping female with lots of milk. We have an Icon sister to 410Z who could very well rank as our top bred heifer, and we have a feeling that you will be hearing more about her in years to come. Two generations red and polled and even more generations good, this younger bull is developing quite nicely and seems to have inherited his length from his sire. This bull comes to us from a highly productive and efficient cow family. I can go back six generations and all of those females were herd bull factories that produced many bulls over the years. With 34 years of breeding Simmental cattle, consistency is built into these animals.

Another good blaze faced bull that just squeaked by to be called a February model. This is the 10th natural calf from the 521K cow. We should actually be flushing this cow since she is one of our best producers. Breault Ranching owned two of her sons, along with Jim Geisel, Tom Rawson and James Richter each using one as well. Everyone tells us that those 521K sons are some of the very best ever purchased. Be sure to own this son on February 11.
