Welcome to the sale... The challenge is to always improve the offering from one sale to the next. The Calvert offering is exceptional with more performance and a deeper quality. They have bulls here that should be going into a purebred operation with lots of performance and popular pedigrees. I purchased a bull from the Manns last year and have been very happy with that purchase. I feel their lead off bull this year is even better that the one that I bought. The rest of their offering is also very good. I am sending nine sons of WLB Home Run. They are all 100 % pigmented with extra performance. The Stocki’s have a performance bull weighing over 1400 lbs. and some very good heifer bulls. Jay Rimke and Batho Farms are again bringing two year old black bulls that were very well accepted in last year’s sale. There will be 25 replacement quality heifers in this year’s sale. There should be something for everyone. If you have any questions, please feel free to phone any contributor or Chris Poley and his staff. Hope to see you out at the sale. - Doug Troop, Doug Troop Hereford Ranch

From the Desk at T Bar...

Welcome to the 2nd Annual Prime Plus Bull Sale on April 10th, Beautiful Plains Ag Complex, Neepawa, Manitoba. This “British Breed” event offers Polled Hereford and Angus bulls from five leading Manitoba breeders. Each operation is well into their second generation or more of producing high quality seedstock for the beef industry. There are multitudes of sales each spring in all breeds. In each catalogue we find the pedigrees and numbers to assist in selection. No doubt EPDs (expected progeny differences) have become common place in the last decade; the traits for calving, weaning, yearling, milk and total maternal are the most used, as for the others…well, we all need an explanation. But the traits which are not on paper especially for the winter of 2018-2019 are assumed traits, Traits that take generations to establish consistently. There is no number for hair and undercoat, rustling ability, temperament or feed conversation and efficiency. Well, Hereford and Angus have spent a couple of centuries developing something that is essential for our climate but is not documented. Prime Plus gives you an opportunity to put those traits back into your cow herd! The Prime Plus offering is powerful and diverse. Bulls that will add power into your calf crop, sires for your heifer pasture and bulls that will fit in either pasture. The newest genetics in their respective breeds are represented, whether you are looking at Polled Hereford or Angus. Remember the true “baldie” is developed by combining the two breeds! Stop by any of the operations prior the sale for a preview where you can see their mothers or give any of these fine breeders a call to discuss their lineup and your needs. Prime Plus is a great reason to be in Neepawa on April 10th. If we, at T Bar C, may be of assistance, prior to or sale day, please contact any of the T Bar team and we will be pleased to offer our professional services. - Chris Poley
