Welcome to the First Annual Prairie Gateway Speckle Park Bull & Female, Tuesday April 6, 2021 at Heartland Livestock, Virden, Manitoba. This group of leading breeders have come together to host the first Speckle Park sale in the Province of Manitoba.

Wilcox Livestock come to town with the progeny of their outstanding proven sire. These bulls are nearly all homo polled and homo black… uniform in frame size and shape, lots of hair, muscle and bred in calving ease.

Their heifers are from the keeper pen, the embryos offer unique opportunities and the semen from proven breed leaders for your spring breeding intentions.

Calico Creek offer a chance to own a 2020 Champion of the World qualifier in “Epic.” The bulls are optimal in birth weight and genetically diverse. Their heifer consignment is strong from end to end and what a way to start a breeding program or add to an existing program. The embryo package is unique as the successful bidder will have one of the first progeny of Greenwood Headliner, the Stockade Champion.

Graham Creek Ranch is a multi-generational family operation. After using Speckle Park on their commercial Angus cows, the results prompted them to raise purebreds. Their group of yearlings are uniform, meaty, attractive with very acceptable birth weights. After you look at the powerful F-1 heifers selling it will give you an idea of what to expect from the bulls.

Second Chance Speckle Park are offering their feature heifers… feminine and fancy, these females are ideal for juniors of any age.

Te r ms & C ondi ti ons TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable at par at the sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made; no invoicing on buyers in attendance unless previous arrangements have been made. Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in cases of disputes, the auctioneer’s decision will be final. Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Current exchange rates will be announced sale day. All monies are in Canadian funds.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATIONS: Each purebred animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Speckle Park Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made.

PEDIGREE ESTIMATES: Pedigree Estimates (PE) are created on the projected mating of the animal’s sire and dam based on averages of the two, creating estimated values that do not hold the same accuracy of actual EPDs issued from the association and should be used as such.

HEALTH: All animals in the sale have met all necessary health requirements.

GUARANTEE: All sellers and buyers of Speckle Park cattle in this sale are expected to be knowledgeable of and to abide by the Guidelines for Seller and Buyer Expectations and the By-laws of the Canadian Speckle Park Association. These documents are available from the Association’s office.

PREGNANCY INFORMATION: All serviceable age females have been pregnancy examined by an accredited veterinarian, giving an estimated length of gestation. This estimated gestation period shall be used only as a guideline to calving and is not a guarantee of actual service.

Welcome to the 1st Annual Prairie Gateway Speckle Park Bull and Female Sale. We are very excited to be working with this great group of consignors as well as the T Bar C crew for this first-time, standalone Speckle Park purebred sale in Manitoba!

We would like to thank the past bidders and buyers of our Speckle Park bulls and females. We would like to thank everyone who has gotten us to this point. We started in the Speckle Park breed in 2016 with three purebred females. This year we will be calving out 42 purebred Speckle Park cows.

For the first annual sale we have dug deep and decided to offer our white herd bull, Belmoral’s Bommer 6F who we co-own with Belmoral Farms. We have a great group of performance and calving ease bulls. We have a great group of yearling bulls off Calico Creek Butane 8B who is an impressive herd bull at Belmoral Farms.

We have three bulls and three heifers in the sale that we own with Landon at Calico Creek Speckle Parks. We made the tough decision to consign two heifers that were in the keeper pen.

With the uncertainty everyone’s facing we welcome visitors to the farm to see the bulls beforehand in a socially safe manner. We will have videos of our bulls on www.cattlevids.ca. We are a family from Pierson, Manitoba that have been raising cattle in the southwest region for many generations. What started our journey with the Speckle Park breed was the purchase of some Black Angus cows from my late father-in-law that he had bred to a Speckle Park bull. The calves were vigorous, extra thick topped and the weaning weights were impressive. As we retained heifers each year, we weren’t long appreciating the efficiency, fertility, and disposition of these cattle. We liked them enough to venture into the pedigrees and start carefully selecting our own purebred herd through both frozen genetics and females. We feel that Speckle Park are going to be recognized as one of the best crossing opportunities with many of the great breeds out there. We cross with Black Angus and the females carry maternal characteristics that are immediately noticeable when they have their first calf. These cattle maintain condition in the winter, and they can equally handle the heat of summer. The milking ability is exceptional, and the cows display balanced udders that are not compromised with age. The calves grow well on pasture, display great feed conversion rates in the feedlot and the breed is known for producing some of the highest IMF at the buzzer. We are honored to be part of this Prairie Gateway Speckle Park Sale. Our partners are accomplished breeders. The sale has been put together with confidence in the cattle. This 23H bull has been impressive from the start. He shows extra thickness and top and will add performance and fertility in his calves. His dam has done a great job for her first calf. She bred back to the start of the first cycle this year which was no surprise as she comes from the exceptionally fertile cow, Fancy Free 93B out at River Hill. Great legs and feet sired by Codiak Gulliver 23D. Gulliver gave us moderate birth weight calves that showed increased performance. He had a nice disposition and added extra depth to his calves. We lost 23D to an accident so this will be his last progeny offered.

One of two half blood bulls that are sired by Codiak Gulliver 23D. These two bulls are not a filler for the sale. Several years ago we walked into the SF Angus (formerly Fairgrieve Ranching) herd with the opportunity to pick out their top 20 unregistered, Black Angus replacements from the entire calf crop.

Our mission was to breed these females to purebred Speckle Park bulls for the purpose of creating top commercial breeding stock. Both of these bulls in the sale are a product of that vision and they are absolute stunners. Deep, wide topped bulls with balance and good bone structure. They will sire them sought after, easy keeping heifers that raise the big weaning weight calves. Extremely quiet disposition, trouble free bulls that will come out of the bush in the spring ready to go to work. The SF 250 cow (dam of 250H) is a milking machine that walks in the front of the herd on any cattle drive. She’s a female that stands out right away in any group.

We feel it is important to get some of these females out there to promote what we have experienced and what we consider to be one of the best crosses in the industry. They are half blood heifers off of exceptionally good Black Angus cows. Breed them back to Speckle Park or take them in any direction you want. They will be fully vaccinated and vet checked for sale day.
