3rd Annual Bull Sale Tuesday, March 26, 2019 - 1:00 pm Dryland Cattle Trading Corp - Veteran, AB

Welcome To our Third Annual Poplar Bluff Stock Farm/Twin Anchor Charolais Bull Sale!

We are pleased to bring you 33 virgin two year old bulls. We feel there is enough variety in the offering that there will be a bull to fit your needs, whatever they may be. We do not offer any bulls for sale as yearlings so what you’re seeing is our first cut of bulls. As always, we’d like to send a huge “Thank you!” out to past customers for choosing to do business with us. If you flip to the back cover, you’ll see that a large number of last year’s buyers have an asterisk by their name – these are repeat customers who have bought for 2, 5, 10, 20+ years. We are humbled by your continued confidence in our breeding program.

Taylor Family The Taylor Family - Box 55, Chauvin, AB T0B 0V0 Phone: 780-858-2435 - John’s Cell: 780-806-3395 Email: jktaylor@telusplanet.net

Our bulls have been developed on a high-roughage ration to allow them the chance to first grow to their genetic potential, before being pushed to gain condition. We feel that this is beneficial to their longevity and fertility. The bulls on offer come from solid, functional cows that can be relied upon to go out and do their jobs with a minimum of fuss. Our herdsires are selected for good feet, large testicles, efficient feed conversion and good dispositions. Because we are a family operation, our bulls must meet our own criteria for disposition. Bad attitudes are weeded out as we develop our bulls. Overall, we expect our bulls to be quiet enough that anyone can handle them.

Once again, we are excited to partner with the Weeks family. We feel that the yearlings they offer compliment our two year old bulls in the pattern they follow and the traits that they select for in their herd. We welcome you to view the bulls at home anytime. We will be moving them down to Veteran a couple of days before the sale for anyone who cannot make the drive up to the farm. We are looking forward to working with the crew at Dryland Cattle Trading Corp again this year. We really appreciate their professionalism in every aspect of handling our Bull Sale. This year, our sale will be broadcast by DLMS. Most of you will be familiar with their platform and on-line bidding procedures. If you have any problems getting set up, the staff is very knowledgeable and can get you sorted out quickly. Please plan to join us for lunch at noon on sale day. See you in Veteran on March 26! John & Kirsten, Brad, Sammi,Cooper & Rosalie, Garrett & Amanda

Delivery – Any bulls picked up on sale day will be eligible for a $100 sale credit. If you aren’t set up to take your bull and would like him delivered closer to breeding season, we’d prefer if you put insurance on before he goes back to the farm. We take every care with the bulls that do go back home, but going to town and then home again resets the pecking order and sometimes they get hurt while working all of that out. Karen Bouchard of Stockmens Insurance will be in attendance on sale day to assist you. Buyers must take delivery of their bulls by May 1, 2019. Delivery of bulls is available and by delivery, we don’t mean to “central points”. If you’re taking the time to buy our bulls, we’d like to return the interest and deliver to your farm or ranch.

Almond is a tan Eldorado son who consistently calves easily, polls those calves and gives them fantastic feet. We have used him on every size and shape of cow and there isn’t a cross that doesn’t work. Much like his sire, he stamps his progeny with the same skull shape.

Chancellor was the high selling bull at the Horseshoe E sale in 2016 and a bull that we like more and more every time we look at his calves. We chose him originally to breed our heifers and were so impressed that we’ve been using him on cows too. He stamps all of his calves with his skull shape, strong top, depth and rear quarter. His progeny also have his great feet, all across the board.

We used Blast-Off on flatter muscled cows to give those calves a little more shape. His calves were born easily and were consistently vigorous at birth.

The Weeks Family - Box 372 Castor, AB T0C 0X0 Brian’s Cell: 403-741-2287 Clifford’s Cell: 403-741-2626 Email: twinanchor26@gmail.com Welcome to our 3rd Annual Bull Sale. This year has flown by… it’s hard to believe it’s already time to sell our bulls. As usual we are proud of the bulls we have on offer. Thank you again to our sale partners, the Taylor family. It’s good to have made such great friends and partners. Also thank you to the Dryland staff for assisting with sale preparations and providing the facilities. The cattle market continues to be strong and Char-cross calves are in high demand. This pen of bulls we have on offer have come along really well. This year is the first offering of the $35,000 Resistol bull from the Pro-Char operation. There are some younger bulls in the sale this year as the heifers seemed to greatly outnumber the bulls for the better half of the 2018 calving season. We have only chosen to put forward the young bulls that will be ready to go to work without a doubt. Some great bulls have been retained for two year olds next year who are just a touch young for this year’s sale. These bulls are stout, hairy and sound. They are built for today’s rancher and with any luck will be trouble free. These bulls have been fed a premium ration. We use local feed producers, Ramsay’s Stockmen Center and feed the best ration option, alongside our hay, to promote growth and longevity. They have been given both shots of Fusogard to protect against foot rot. The bulls have been pail fed and have great temperaments. Our herdsires have all have proven to be easy calvers, with that extra punch for good weaning weights. The genetics we have built our herd with have been carefully picked and I think you will agree the quality shows in these bulls. I think this group of bulls has something to offer for everybody. Bid with confidence and if you have been thinking of trying a Charolais bull, maybe this is your year. You would be hard pressed to find a better breed to cross on nearly anything. Charolais bulls give you added performance while still giving you eye appeal and uniformity. Even if you don’t plan on buying, come out and check out our operation on sale day. If you have any questions or would like to view the bulls, we will be happy to help. Brian and Karissa Weeks

Excitement has been mounting on our farm as the new calves hit the ground and we prepare the yearlings to show them off. What an exciting time to be showcasing the Charolais breed. They are revolutionizing the beef industry today in much the same way the arrival of the British breeds did for the “wild west” so many years ago. Their strength and soundness in both warm and cold weather coupled with their ability to raise heavy muscled, fast growing calves has once again caught the eye of the cattle industry. Time and time again studies are defeating old myths and confirm that Charolais are easy to calve without compromising growth or carcass composition. We have used nothing but Charolais sires on all our heifers for almost 10 years now and have been impressed by the ease of calving as well as vigorous newborns. They convert feed to muscle with ease and are superior in growth rate, conformation and dressing out percentage. Their double hair dilution gene gives that beautiful tan color when crossed with reds and when crossed with blacks produce the silver shade that seems to suddenly be a fashion statement in the beef industry. Charolais has always had a place of honour on our farm, we have been operating a Charolais influenced beef herd for almost 40 years. Our purebred herd continues to delight us by their quietness and hardiness on our hard grass prairie farm. Females purchased from McMillans in Saskatoon, Prokudas at Glenevis and the SanDan and Wawadash dispersals are proving their worth year after year. This year we calve out a heifer purchased at the Working Girls Sale from the Steeves’ farm, progeny of females they bought from the Char-Maine Ranch in southern Alberta. We are intrigued by the white buffalo. They too, like the Charolais, carry a hair dilution gene, they are not albino, their eyes are dark and their skin is pigmented and DNA testing confirms they are 100% Indigenous American Bison. The legend of the white buffalo says that it will return every generation guiding people to peace and wisdom. A new generation of Charolais are here. We’re not sure about peace and wisdom, but we are sure about profitability and worth. Thank you for your support. Please join us sale day for dinner and a chat. We love to talk cattle and are eager to help keep this industry alive and well. Cliff and Debbie Weeks

This is our first offering of Resistol sons. Resistol is one of those herd changing bulls. Backed by two of the breed’s greats, Winn Mans Skaggs on the top side and Merit Roundup on the bottom. He was one of the highest selling Charolais bulls in Canada in 2017 at $35,000. Resistol’s depth of body and hair coat are exceptional. He keeps his condition so well and disposition is unmatched. We are retaining a lot of females from him and the heifer pen is looking awesome this year. He adds hair, depth and thickness which are sought after qualities in our Canadian market. The calves are born with ease and lots of vigor. This is a bull that has already left his stamp in a short time and has proved his worth.

Rango has worked extremely well for us and was used mostly on our heifers. His calves are consistently low birth weight, with a good hair coat and good disposition.
