As one welcomes you to the 9 th Annual Northern Classic Bull Sale, how can we not be excited about the turn around that has taken place in the Beef Industry. The future is looking very bright for all that stuck it out through the past decade. Very functional and efficient feeding cattle will make for very profitable times in the cattle industry, using Simmental and Charolais genetics to produce naturally thick, easy fleshing cattle.

JayDawn and Willow Creek Simmentals have remained committed to the cattle business, moving forward with our programs. We have spared no expense and took no short cuts in carrying on with our genetic selection of herdsires, females and selecting semen interests.

We feel this years offering is our strongest yet, we have Full Fleckvieh, Fullbloods, Red and Red Baldy and Black and Black Baldy Simmental bulls and White and Tan Charolais bulls. Whether it is calving ease bulls, performance enhancing bulls or maternal traits that you are needing, there will be a bull here to meet your needs at the Northern Classic Bull Sale.

We are continuing on with our Payment plan option of ½ down sale day and ½ due on November 1, 2012. We offer delivery options and short term boarding options.

Welcome to the Ninth Annual Northern Classic Simmental and Charolais Bull Sale. Both JayDawn and Willow Creek have done a great job improving the overall quality of their offering. Bouchard Livestock has provided some assistance in the selection of herd bulls for their operations and they have ended up with a very productive set of herd bulls that are producing the right kind.

JayDawn’s Red Factor bull battery is made up of the Double Bar D Gunner bull who is producing offspring with added performance and overall soundness. Buckeye is producing progeny average for performance and calving ease, but excelling in maternal and milk. JayDawn will continue to produce those power bulls from LFE Brave 307T. If you want muscle, shape and performance Brave progeny are definitely a consideration. In the black division, TNT Tanker AI service has been added. They will give extra performance and market acceptance. The Fullblood and Full Fleck section will feature a large influence of PRL Unlimited 3U, a bull that is definitely producing the right kind in both the bull pen and the replacement heifer pen. The 2012 offering in the Charolais division will be made up of Playboy 85U sons as well as progeny from Royal Flush and Montezuma 6T.

The Willow Creek offering will highlight the two year old Fired Up bull who they have proven in their own program as well as campaigning the show road very successfully. He was National Junior Champion as well as being Cattleman’s Choice Champion at the Peace Country Beef Congress 2012. The Black Simmentals will feature two popular blaze faced Edition sons as well as a strong group of Exciter progeny. The Exciter bloodline has had a very positive influence here. PRL Rufus and IPU Revolution have both done a great job in the Red Purebred pen, siring bulls that are the kind beef producers are seeking this spring.

I urge you to give the folks at Willow Creek and Jaydawn a call. They definitely have a set of prospective herd sires that are right for the times.This is likely the strongest offering overall from both these up and coming family operations. Bull Developement Option

The Northern Classic consignors will keep the bulls free of charge until the early part of April. Bull buyers need to insure the bulls while cared for by the consignors.

Delivery Option A

Bulls can be picked up at Evergreen Park on sale day and a $50 discount will be deducted from purchased price.

Delivery Option B

At the buyer’s option and risk the bull can return home and be delivered anywhere in the Peace Region and to central locations free of charge. Anywhere outside of this will be shared costs of the buyer and seller. We will do our utmost to deliver them right to your yard.

We will start delivery shortly after the date of sale on our schedule so please have a spot ready for your bull as we try to make full trailer loads when delivering.

Pay 1/2 on sale day and the balance due November 1 with post-dated cheque. Bulls become the risk of the purchaser as soon as they are sold and must carry insurance to qualify for Terms. All bulls must have their registration papers transferred to same owner.

We reserve the right to collect semen on any bull in the sale for inherd use only. If you have any questions, please contact us.

We still offer the personal touch given, as when our bulls were sold on the farm. Contact us and we will personally go over the bulls, your program and your needs. If you are not able to attend the sale, we will recommend you to contact one of the sales staff, who will represent your needs in a professional and confidential manner.

All bulls will be scrotal measured and vet examined. All bulls over 12 months of age will be semen tested. All bulls were treated with Ivomec and such products and have received all their vaccinations. Contact seller for details on programs.

EPD Explanation

All bulls are guaranteed to be satisfactory breeders in accordance with CSA and CCA guidelines. Should a problem occur barring injury or mismanagement, a bull of equal value will be provided or a credit will be issued towards the purchase of another bull. We guarantee you will have a bull to service your cows.

Homozygous Testing

Many bulls have been Homo Polled and Homo Black tested. Results will be available prior to the sale.

Heated Sales Barn

Throughout the catalogue you will see bulls pointed out as individuals that could be used on heifers with minimal or no calving troubles.

EPDs are “Expected Progeny Difference”. They are a useful tool in selection EPD incorporate the individual animal with its anestry performance. EPDs do not compare across cattle breeds. They are individual based per breed. EPDs indicate a probable variance above or below breed average for that trait for a given bull’s progeny. The accuracy of EPDs for calendar year bull calves is generally about 20% (one out of five times) so use it cautiously. One of several selection tools.

The $36,000 Gunner bull has surpassed all of our expectations with his first calf crop. He calves super easy and patterns them all the same. They have a ton of hair and are colored right. The bull calves grow rapidly and develop into stout thick made bulls. His females that are in the replacement pen all have that broodiness and easy doing look to them and with being backed by a female like Gunner’s dam Tequila, we can’t help but get excited about the cow herd’s future here at JayDawn. Here is a set of twins by Double Bar D gunner, both very similar in make up. Both bulls are red with 39Y being so dark he is almost black. Extra long spine and a great big hip on both these bulls, a trait that Gunner throws in all his calves. These bulls both have great depth of rib, lots of hair and pack huge testicles. Their dam is from the Tumbler cow family, known for producing outstanding bulls that are born easy and grow rapidly. CLO615S is small in stature, is deep cherry red and has a beautiful udder. Their granddam also has a son in this sale JDF32Y, one of the top black bulls offered in this sale. Two herdsires in the making. You decide which one is best or better yet, take them both home and put some consistency in your calf crop.

This is our first crop of BuckEye bulls to come to town. Although there are only 6 sons in the sale, this was due to AI as he was in stud that spring. They are a very consistent set of bulls that are very moderate, stout made bulls with a ton of hair. Buckeye is very consistent with his birth weights and we have used him in our heifer pen for the second year now with great success. His calves are born with lots of vigor and quickly start to thicken up and grow rapidly. The $32,000 BuckEye bull has grown into a very moderate made individual with an excellent set of feet and legs. We have an excellent set of replacement heifers in the pen and are excited to get them producing. He will see heavy service again this spring on both the cow and heifer pens.

PlayBoy’s calves are hitting the ground for the second year now at JayDawn.

He continues to be a calving ease sire that gives us peace of mind at calving whether it be on heifers or cows. They have lots of vigor and get up and get going quickly. We were lucky enough to purchase ½ share back in the Pepsi female that we sold to Harvie Ranching at the Checkers sale in 2009. Wallbanger created quite a stir when he sold at Checkers in 2010 for $45,000 for half interest to Robb Farms and the Semen Syndicate.

Wallbanger is a super soggy stout made bull that gets out and moves freely on a tremendous set of feet and legs. He measured 39 cm at 11 months of age and froze semen at a year old. Here is our new herdsire that we purchased last spring out of the MRL sale. Sired by TNT Power Surge and mothered by a Red Hemi cow. This bull, first of all, has super feet and legs, is very important to us. And then look at the amazing spring of rib. Needless to say we are very impressed with him. We now have close to 20 calves out of him and birthweights are excellent. These calves are up and going quick. Look for Power Surge calves in our 2013 bull sale and in our show string this summer.

We are excited to own a semen share in this Revolution son. Rival sold at Checkers for $40,000 with Kopp Farms from Manitoba buying the walking rights. We were stalled next to him at Farmfair and had a good chance to admire him. He has the same excellent qualities of his sire, whom we also have a semen share in. I really wanted to keep this consistency in building a set of red females. We can’t predict the future, but I think Rival will make a great impact in our red genetics. Look for Rival sons in future Northern Classic sales.
