As one welcomes you to the 8th annual Northern Classic Bull Sale, we can not help but get excited about the cattle industry. Not only has the cull market rebounded and is getting stronger but the calf and fat market are showing promising prices and only expected to get stronger as the year goes on. We talked last year about the industry taking that 180 degree turn, well it has started and those who have stuck through the last few years will be rewarded!

JayDawn Farms and Willow Creek Simmentals have remained committed to the cattle business moving forward with our programs. We carried on with our genetics decisions taking no short cuts when it came to this.

We spared no expense in the purchasing of our herdsires, semen and replacement females. This years offering is as strong as ever from Full Flecks, Fullbloods, Reds and Black Simmental bulls, as well white and tan Charolais bulls.

Whether it is calving ease bulls, performance enhanced bulls or maternal traits that you are after or a combination of all, then there will be a bull to meet your needs right here at the Northern Classic Bull Sale.

We are continuing on with our Payment Plan option of ½ down sale day with other ½ not due till November 2011. We offer Free Delivery in the Peace Region and some boarding is available and will need to be discussed with us. All our bulls are semen tested and guaranteed. We also guarantee that you will have a bull to use if a problem should arise as we have spare bulls at home. Welcome to the 8th annual Northern Classic Bull Sale. The Northern Classic Bull Sale has developed a reputation over the past 7 years for bringing to town a very solid set of herdbulls. This year is no different with the McQuaig and Klassen families putting together a group of bulls that can meet the needs of any cattleman. The Northern Classic Bull Sale has become a must attend sale in the peace region.

Both JayDawn and Willow Creek were very well represented at the recent bull congress in January, with bulls in this sale winning both Champion and Reserve in both the single and pen shows. Sons of walking herdsires Brian Bouchard 403.813.7999 represent a large portion of the offering for both operations. JayDawn brings to town another strong set of Brave sons, as well as the first set of Unlimited sons. Willow Creek will have the first sons of the Barracuda bull. Both of these family operations have a strong AI program and will showcase some of the industries leading sires. There will be a strong representation of red, black and fullblood bulls to meet whatever your herdbull needs may be. JayDawn will also have a group of Charolais bulls on offer, which is a very consistent group.

Health and Fertility All bulls will be scrotal measured and vet examined. All bulls over twelve months of age will be semen tested. All bulls were treated with Ivomec and such products and have received all their vaccinations. Contact seller for details on programs.

100% Guarantee All bulls are guaranteed to be satisfactory breeders in accordance with CSA and CCA guidelines.

Should a problem occur barring injury or mismanagement, a bull of equal value will be provided or a credit will be issued towards the purchased of another bull. We guarantee you will have a bull to service your cows.

Homozygous Testing Many bulls have been Homo Polled & Homo Black tested. Results will be available prior to sale.

Heated Sales Barn Attend the Northern Classic and take advantage of the sale, the 4-H show and all the festivities involved with the trade show. Remember to show your catalogue at the gate in order to park next to the Drysdale Centre.

Bull Development Option The Northern Classic consignors will keep the bulls free of charge until the early part of April.

Bull buyers need to insure the bulls while cared for by the consignors.

Delivery Option A Bulls can be picked up at Evergreen Park on sale day and a $50 discount will be deducted from purchased price.

Delivery Option B At the buyers option and risk, the bull can return to JayDawn or Willow Creek and delivered anywhere in the Peace Country Region at no charge to central locations. We will do our utmost to deliver them right to your yard.

Delivery Option C Bull can return to JayDawn or Willow Creek and be picked up anytime before April 15th at the buyer’s convenience.

In-Herd Use Semen Rights We reserve the right to collect semen on any bull in the sale for in-herd use only. If you have any questions please contact us.

Sight Unseen Purchase Program We still offer the personal touch given, as when our bulls were sold on the farm. Contact us and we will personally go over the bulls, your program and your needs. If you are unable to attend the sale, we will recommend you to contact one of the sale staff, who will represent your needs in a professional and confi dential manner.

Heifer Approved Throughout the catalogue you will see bulls pointed out as individuals that could be used on heifers with minimal or no calving troubles.

EPD Explanation EPDs are “Expected Progeny Differences”. They are a useful tool in selection. EPD incorporate the individual animal with its ancestry performance. EPDs do not compare across cattle breeds; they are individual based per breed. EPDs indicate a probable variance above or below breed average for that trait for a given bull’s progeny. The accuracy of EPDs for calender year bull calves is generally about 20% (one out of five time) so use it cautiously; one of several selection tools.

Homozygous Polled Brave has proven to be a great investment at $20,000 for us here at JayDawn, when we decided to go purchase a leading Simmental herdsire Bouchard looked long and hard for us and directed to this red homozygous bull from Lewis Farms. He is out of the calving ease bull Bravado and a Dynamite Black cow that enhances the maternal and performance of rave. Brave calves are very consistent and are like peas in a pod. He left us an outstanding set of bull calves that are very moderate, thick, extra hair and excellent testicle development. His females are now in production with beautiful udders and lots of milk and are true brood cows in the making. There are 16 sons in this offering and are a true representation of what Brave has done for our program.

Future Herdsires at JayDawn Farms

We were lucky enough to purchase ½ share in JDF Pepsi from Harvie Ranching when we sold her at the Checkers sale in 2009. Wallbanger created quite a stir last December when he sold at Checkers for ½ interest for $45,000 to Robb Farms and the semen syndicate. Wallbanger is a super soggy stout made bull calf that gets out and moves very freely on a tremendous set of feet and legs. This bull measured 39cm at 11 months of age and is freezing semen at a year old. He tested homozygous polled and Hetro black. We will be using this exciting young bull in our A.I program.

Cross Iron went on to win the Cattlemens Choice Grand Champion Bull at the Peace Country Beef Congress and was also part of the Champion pen of Three bulls.

MMWK Cow Boss has been admired by a lot of good cattlemen this fall. He won his class at Farmfair and then placed very well in the overall bull show. His Dam is a Templehall cow purchased in their dispersal in 2008. She is a daughter of PRL Emilie the Romulus / Anchor t Millie cow and sired by Arnolds Future. If he raises females likes his dam you will be proud to own him. MMWK Fine Line 32 X was suppose to be part of our Pen of Three at the Beef Congress, we replaced him last minute with another darker red brother. He may not be as dark red as his brothers but he is stout. He is the deepest bull in our offering with a great hair coat. He is also mothered by a standout cow at our place. She is a PRL Market daughter that goes back to Camp Credit. This makes him probably 2/3 Fleckvieh. If you want steers that push the scales at weaning take this guy home.

MMWK Iron Stone 28 X is one of my favorite bulls. His dam is a PRL Rufus daughter, these females are good they have excellent feet and udders and boy they are raising calves. He gets the cherry red color and great hair coat from his sire Barracuda. He was the other Bull in our Champion pen of Three brothers at the Peace Country Beef Congress. He was halter broke and leading at congress in 2 days. These Barracudas have very nice temperament.

COLB Fired Up 17 X is Colbys only bull in the sale this year. This Fullblood calf is mothered by a beautiful Molson cow that was purchased at Cow a Rama. The good folks at Bouchard Livestock found The Exciter Bull for us at Barry Labattes sale last spring. Exciter is a son of Red Pocahontas 52 N cow Barry speaks very highly of. We are extremely pleased with the Bull, Exciter has excellent feet and leg structure. His first calves are on the ground And they are all good birth weights. We will use him on heifers this year. His full sister topped the Simmsational sale this past fall selling for $14,750.

Look for an exciting set of bulls from Exciter in 2012.

We purchased a semen interest in Revolution as soon as they decide to sell some. We seen him first at farmfair and again at Agribition. I was so impressed at the way he traveled on excellent big feet for a big bull. In 2010 Revolution was Grand Champion Simmental at the National show in Brandon as well as Grand Champion Simmental Bull at Farmfair. The calves I have on the ground now are just right for birthweight and do they ever excel in growth.
