Welcome to the 2015 New Trend Salers Bull Sale... the largest offering of Salers bulls in the nation; this group of breed leaders continue to supply the livestock industry with fresh new era genetics. 2015 offers a strong group of bulls, red and black, suitable for all terrains and breeding operations. All are uniform in type, adequate in frame size, lots of hair and full of muscle expression yet maintaining strength of the breed... calving ease and vigor.

The rebuilding of the North American cow herd is slowly coming to pass... heifers are being retained to add numbers to cow herds. Servicing these heifers requires “sleep easy� bulls, as we know that in this record setting market, the most expensive calf is a dead calf. Ranchers, supply of top quality Salers bulls ideal for a pasture full of heifers is very limited...the New Trend sale is an official supplier.

Yearling Bulls Cody and I would like to invite and/or welcome everyone to the New Trend Sale once again this year. 2014 brought some changes to our lives and our program. We started the year with a trip to Denver to search out a new herd sire that would keep our program progressive. We came home with a bull from northern Kansas called Vista and we have started to increase our purebred herd again. We have now added 30 Unmatched heifers that will all be bred to Vista and the first of those calves will be hitting the ground as this hits the mail. We are excited to see them and have already purchased another herd sire named Bud who is a Zeppelin son (Zeppelin is a Wide Load son that was high seller at Denver 2013 and Denver champion in 2014). Bud will be shown in the U.S. this year and will be here to breed the Vista heifers next spring. We also picked a few cows from John Nikkel’s herd that were bred to an Unmatched son out of the legendary Nefertiti, these calves round out one of our biggest consignments to date. We travel as far and wide as we have to, to bring progressive genetics into our breeding program for the benefit of our commercial customers. We are using bulls that are well muscled with moderate frames, light birth weights and high gains. When we choose our bulls, we know that maintaining a uniform calf crop is important to you; so we use Homozygous black bulls on cows that have black pedigrees so that you can maintain an all black calf crop. We also choose herd sires that have straight hair, good disposition and eye appeal.

Also in 2014 we lost my father, Gerry Sr.; he was a pioneer in the Salers breed since 1976; we will all miss him greatly. On a positive note, Cody has bought his own place at Nobleford, AB (CBFR) and I am proud to announce that he is now my partner in G I T Performance Cattle. At CBFR we will grow hay and winter/calve cows, he has a 3200 square foot barn and a shop that makes me jealous. We will continue to graze and develop the heifer and bull calves at Langdon.

This year the New Trend Bull Sale consigners made our way to Denver to exhibit our cattle at the National Western Stock Show. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time Canadian Salers cattle have been to Denver in a dozen years or more. Our delegation was made up of Reg, Tracy, Mike and Chance from Spring Coulee; Pete Watkins of PW Stock Farm; Cody and I from G I T Performance Cattle. Chance and I drove down a couple days early with the cattle, as they needed to be tested for vs before returning. We arrived Wednesday at Adams County Fair Grounds where Salers Cattle from Iowa and Missouri were congregating to rest from other long trips. At Adams County we reacquainted with some other breeders. In the evenings Chance and I saw some sights and enjoyed the local talent.

The remainder of our contingency arrived Friday various times throughout the evening and night. The next four days were spent at the National Western grounds visiting, promoting Salers cattle, having fellowship with our American counterparts and trading genetics. We attended the American Salers banquet where we participated in the bull futurity and were treated to live entertainment. We attended the sale on Monday where we saw more great cattle that sold well and we showed our cattle on Tuesday. The entire time we were referred to as the Canadians, even our stall assignment said “Canadians” but their hospitality was fantastic and we look forward to going again. We spent hours every day talking about our cattle, going over pedigrees and answering questions. Peter had a red polled fullblood heifer that attracted a lot of attention and Mike and myself had two of the highest performance bulls in the barn. We once again sold semen to some American breeders and GIT has formed a partnership on a new herd sire.

The road trip home was a fun time telling and retelling stories, the excitement of having gone to Denver, stopping for the best chicken fried steak north of the Mason-Dixon, and stopping in Kaycee Wyoming to fill gaps in the Chris Ledoux collection.The weather was fantastic and so was the company. TERMS & CONDITIONS TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable at par at the sale location.

The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made; no invoicing on buyers in attendance, unless previous arrangements have been made. Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in cases of disputes, the auctioneer’s decision will be final. Current exchange rates will be announced sale day. All monies are in Canadian funds.

BIDDING: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. In the case of a dispute, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved in the dispute. If no further bidding is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision on all disputes will be final.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: All announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay close attention to such disclosures.

BREEDER’S GUARANTEE: Should any bull fourteen (14) months of age or over fail to prove a breeder after being used on females known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six (6) months following the date of purchase or six (6) months after the bull has reached fourteen (14) months of age. The seller will have the right and privilege of six (6) months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze.

EXCEPTION GUARANTEE: In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Salers Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made.

HEALTH: All animals in the sale have met all necessary health requirements.

LIABILITIES: All persons attend the sale at their own risk. The seller, facility owner and sale manager assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents that occur. It is understood that T Bar C Cattle Co. Ltd. is acting only as a medium between buyer and seller and is not responsible for any failure on the part of either party to live up to his obligations. Neither does T Bar C Cattle Co. Ltd. assume any financial obligations to collect or enforce collection of any monies between parties and any legal action that may in exceptional cases be taken must be between the buyer and the seller. T Bar C Cattle Co. Ltd. assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfillment of all guarantees and representations made here under.

RIGHTS & OBLIGATIONS: The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and obligations of the two parties connected thereto are not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale.

PHONE, MAIL, WIRE BIDS: Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone, wire or mail their bids and instructions to the sale managers, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.

DELIVERY: We will assist in arranging transportation wherever possible. Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.

INSURANCE: Will be available sale day. We strongly recommend that insurance is purchased for full value.

ERRORS: All announcements at sale time, written or oral, supercede any written material in the catalogue.
