New Country Livestock Complete Dispersal

Page 1

From the desk at T Bar... We have reached the stage in the beef cattle industry that every cow/calf operation requires Charolais influence in their program to get top market share on their calves. Although it has been happening for the past two or three decades, in the past two fall seasons, we have seen a strengthening demand for buckskins, silvers and even straight whites as feeders and packers look for higher dressing weights and greater profit margins. Over the past ten years, we have seen a rebuilding of the cow herds to more British base females that require the Charolais bull to give calves heterosis and more weaning pounds coming in off grass. With the North American cow population at all-time lows, the fall of 2010 might be the last opportunity to purchase bred females at affordable values. (I believe the cows purchased this fall could well be the highest profit earning females one can acquire.) The sale offering we have here does not come by chance. The Sandan program is solid proven by the successful annual bull sale held each March, where over three quarters of the bulls sell to repeat customers each sale. (There is a reason that these folks keep coming back.) Ursula has selected walking bulls that add a special requirement in her mating decisions. Always keeping performance in mind, she has tried to improve birth weights and calving, hair and docility, but she gets really critical when it comes to udders and udder types. Since they have two calving seasons, spring and fall, Ursula does not have the time or man power to fuss with bad udders, big teats or cows that will hunt you down in the pen. These are real cattle for real people who would like to make a living and a profit in the beef cattle industry. It is sad to see New Country disperse as they have been solid Charolais supporters and breed enthusiasts. But as time marches on, consider the opportunities that await you sale day. This program has bred a few national champions and has been competitive at virtually every event they have attended. Here you can select from the heart of the entire herd whether you are looking for a donor type mother or her daughter. From this dispersal, there will be a few purchases that will make history in the years to follow so do not miss the chance. This sale offering, both SDC and New Country are similar in some genetics and diverse in others. There is a powerful group of Charolais cattle to select from. Whether you are looking for a junior heifer for 4-H or Saskatoon for your youngsters, a donor female to propagate a new cow family or just what most breeders do in the Charolais, raise bulls to benefit the livestock industry, the offering is powerful and worth the trip or the call. Remember in most cases the first bull calf will pay for or exceed the mother. Plan to be with us on December 11th, for one of Canada’s only production sales and Alberta’s only dispersal. Feel free to stop by prior the sale for a preview and both operations are not that far apart or call either operation as they will be ever so happy to assist.

As I sit here and write this welcome to our Dispersal Sale, it is with a great deal of emotion; 26 years have come and gone so fast. Raising Charolais was always a dream of mine from a young age; a dream that I was able to fulfill, and think I did a fairly well at. The changes this great breed of people and cattle have gone through have helped to make New Country Livestock what it is today. I am very proud to say that I am a Charolais enthusiast, breeder and promoter of a breed that is second to none. Our program has always revolved around quality not quantity. “If it ain’t good enough for our own herd, it sure ain’t good enough to sell to you.” The cattle on offer have done us proud; they are good, honest, hard working, brood matrons, who have been good to us, and I know will be an asset to any program, that wants to be aggressive. Not to many programs with as few of numbers as New Country Livestock can boast the rights to a National Champion Bull, Reserve World Congress Female, back to back Agribition Champion Females, along with numerous other champions on the summer and fall show circuits. My two children, Brooklyn, 17 and Brayden, 16, will carry on the New Country Livestock name. Both have been showing and helping out with the cattle since they were five years old; I guess you could say the cattle business has been “bred” into them as well. My full intentions are to someday, down the road, get back into this great Charolais breed and carry on. Thanks to all who have supported our program over the past years, Darren

Here is one of those “no miss” females no matter what she is bred to. Kiss This is a moderate and very correct cow. A smooth made female who will throw calves with exceptional hair coats and extra eye appeal, as well as low birth weights. Her dam, “Miss Priss” was the high seller at the Show Down Sale in 2008, where she sold to John Chomiak. Kiss This will take the guess work out of your breeding program and add maternal greatness and calving ease, in a structurally sound package. Her full sibling, “How’s This”, was the Farm Fair Charolais Legends of the Fall Champion in 2008. Her dam, “Miss Priss”, also has a great show record. Bred to Irish Cream May 3, 2010. As you study this heifer calf’s overall eye appeal and performance, it is quick to see that she is going to be very beneficial for the successful bidder. Her dam, Gerard’s Proud Mary, is a phenomenal cow who raised one of our high selling bull calves last year. There seems to be endless opportunities in this young and promising heifer calf. She puts it all together in a very powerful package with her thickness, large top and overall balance from front to back. The guess work is gone, since the apple did not fall far from the tree.

This spring we went searching for a bull who would add some performance and jam to his offspring, yet still maintains eye appeal. Irish Cream is just that bull and has an outcross pedigree on the top side, backed by a very strong cow family on the bottom.

Synergy has done a tremendous job for us, both on cows and heifers. Very easy calving, yet still maintains enough performance. Synergy has worked really well on our Survivor and Freedom females. He has loads of eye appeal and tons of hair. Selling half interest and full possession.
