I probably don’t have to tell you but wasn’t the start of winter a bear cat! We had more snow in December alone than we have had in 2 or 3 winters all tole and then brutal cold with wind day after day. We’re finally getting a break here in mid January and appreciate it. Picturing bulls was a struggle as we didn’t spend as much time at it as we usually do. It was just brutal cold day after day and when it did warm up we had 20 calves a day coming. There will be some feature bulls that lead off their pens that are not even pictured. Those of you that make it sale day, prior to or talk to Dave or Lee about our SUS program will be able to take advantage! Also, there will be several more bulls identified as Homo Polled prior to sale time as we are waiting on test results. To start I would like to thank our customers for your support over the past 45 years. We guarantee to provide you with a sound breeding bull capable of passing a semen test by a licensed vet within 14 months of age. All bulls over 12 months of age will be semen tested as satisfactory by Sale Day. Should any MRL bull fail to be a satisfactory breeder, he will be replaced with a bull of equal value and quality or a credit will be given towards the purchase of another MRL bull. No refunds. We carry a good supply of backup bulls and will make sure you have bull power to get your cows bred. Sight Unseen Program
We would love to have you join us for our annual Bull Sale at the ranch. If you can not, this program has worked well for many busy cattlemen unable to make it to our sale. With families and a bunch of cows ourselves, we realize that with hockey, 4-H, chores, frozen water bowls, cows calving and everything else it is sometimes hard to be everywhere you want to be on certain days. Each and every year we sell more bulls through this program from clean across the country to next door neighbors. The program is simple. Call us in advance (preferably a week or so) before the sale to discuss your cowherd, breeding objectives and herd bull requirements. From what we gather from talking to you about your program, we can fit you with a herdsire or herd sires with in your price ranges and suited to your needs without you leaving home. The bulls will be personally hand picked by Lee, Dave or Jim. We are a family run operation so the same person helping you pick your bull is the same person who calves, breeds, feeds and lives with these herd bull prospects and their mothers year around. We know our cowherd very well and the genetics strength of each bull on offer. Just the same as you know yours. Almost 40 years in the bull business we have gained a level of trust and integrity with our customers and have had repeat customers buy their bulls here for years and not been to a sale yet. We will get you the best bull for your program as reasonably priced as we can - you have our word on that.
Why the program has worked so well: * We know our cattle very well and can select a bull or group of bulls to suit your needs. * All bulls are fertility tested and have passed a semen evaluation prior to sale day. Here are a few details about our operation and why we think an MRL herd sire may work for you.
* Over 40 years in the bull business. Over 40 years we have been committed to and stuck to producing Simmental seed stock which Will work well under your commercial conditions. Easy fleshing, structurally sound beef cattle have always been #1 at MRL. *Customer Care. We will make sure you have a bull to breed your cows to. If you run into trouble, give us a call. We will have several insurance bulls at the ranch at all times and will get you a replacement bull as soon as you need one. We also have post sale delivery on offer. For those busy cattlemen unable to make it sale day, we offer a sight unseen buyers program and pre- selection program, as well as several sale consultants to leave an order with. *Quality Not Quantity. Our operation consists of over 600 working females. The 150 bulls on offer have been selected from 300 bull calves, therefore we can be very strict when selecting our offering. The toughest thing about our bull sale will be making up the sale order. Pens full of uniform 1⁄2 and 3⁄4 brothers. * Bull Development. These bulls have been developed on a high roughage, silage, grain and ground straw/hay ration plus minerals. Our objective is to offer you sound breeding bulls ready to go to work and stay working for years to come. “Stuffing” is for the “Christmas Turkey” not “breeding bulls”. All bulls are semen tested prior to the sale so there are no surprises after you buy your herd bull(s).

Terms - The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made prior to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. We reserve the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Should any purchaser fail to settle for his purchase, we reserve full power to resell the animal to the best advantage either publicly or privately without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. Disputes - Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decisionin such matter is final. Purchaser’s Risk - Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. We strongly recommend the purchaser insure their purchase(s) at time of purchase. Announcements - Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements. Certificate of Registry - A registration/recordation certificate issued by the Canadian Simmental Association.Canadian Angus Association and duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer of each animal after settlement has been made. It is the responsibility of the buyer to determine the acceptance of this certificate in any other association.

The Capone bull has sure as heck stamped them with 18 sons on offer and like peas in a pod! This guy is one of our favourites. Long, packed full of muscle and a herdbull look. His dam is a beautiful Crosby female back to the awesome Rosie cow we purchased from Maxwell Simmentals out of Farm Fair. Just a 97 lb bw and weaned at 975 lbs. The group of these spring born Comin’ 2’s are bigger in numbers and better than ever for 2017. Our goal is to transition half of or almost 700 cows to calve in May on grass. Our winter-calving cows start calving the first week in January and are done by bull sale time the start of March. For 3 years now we have simply moved any cows that calve after the 15th of February to our spring calving herd. By doing this, we add some of our most elite cows, some of our young cows with fresh new pedigrees and older proven cows to this calving interval to ensure it is a clone of our winter herd. We have not been in the Angus seedstock business for as long as we have the Simmental business but as it doesn’t seem that long, 2017 will be the 13th year to offer Angus bulls in our event. We were lucky to start with a tremendous group of cows and have used the same no nonsense approach as with the Simmental growing our herd by multiplying our most elite cow families and investing a huge amount of time and money in herdbull selection.
