Welcome to the 1st Annual Leading Edge Speckle Cattle Sale! This is an exciting new adventure for us and we are very grateful for your interest and participation.

We have come together as four consignors with a unified vision for this sale. Our goal is to offer to you bulls and heifers that we believe best represent our individual breeding programs, while at the same time collectively offering cattle that we know will work well in the commercial and purebred industry. We all believe in the utility and quality of the Speckle Park breed and we all know, firsthand about their adaptability and hardiness to the Saskatchewan environment.

Like you, we value cattle that are easy fleshing and productive while being efficient in forage utilization and feed resources. The bulls and heifers we offer are the offspring of good milking females with good maternal instincts and calm dispositions. They are the resulting progeny from pairing our females with sires who we believe can pass on their structural soundness, reproductive fitness and carcass quality for generations to come. Therefore, we welcome and invite all of you to visit our farms and gather with us over coffee to learn about our programs and see our herds. At the same time, we want to learn about your goals and how we can best meet your needs. Our success is based on your success with our cattle, so we value your input, your scrutiny, your trust and your friendship. Prior to sale day, hair samples from our animals were sent to Quantum Genetix in Saskatoon, SK for DNA genetic testing and we have provided the results to you in the sales catalogue to assist you in your selection process. A short description on the contribution certain alleles can have on the carcass and targeted traits is also included for your benefit. Saturday, April 20th will be a very interesting, exciting day, as Saskatoon hosts the “Leading Edge Speckle Park Bull and Female Sale” at Saskatoon Livestock Sales located on Highway #14 west of Saskatoon. This event is presented by four dedicated Speckle Park breeders who decided to come together to have a sale. Each breeding operation is unique in genetics giving prospective buyers a wide cross section of choices from the most exciting beef breed in the natiom, perhaps the world.

These four breeders have put together an exciting offering. Thirty three bulls both yearlings and two-year-old’s giving both breeders and ranchers an opportunity to select and add Speckle Park into their programs. Remember that the two’s will cover more ground and more cows while the easy calving yearlings are ideal for your heifer pastures. No doubt the ten elite females will be a feature as demand overruns supply twenty-to-one. To add a little flavor, they offer some exclusive frozen genetics suitable for any market in the world. April 20th will be another day in Speckle Park history... plan to be a part of it!

For those who have not used Speckle Park, it is not too late to be a part of this exciting breed. Speckle Park is “the best eating experience in the world” and consumers are rapidly recognizing that fact. The breed is low maintenance, easy calving and optimum framed, with lots of hair. Specialty Speckle Park feeder sales each fall are resulting in higher premiums for producers who use Speckle Park sires… virtually all the embryos harvested in Canada are slated for export to other nations in the world.

The sale offering will be on display the Friday prior the sale or stop by any of these breeding operations for a preview in their natural surroundings. Feel free to give Rob, Joe, Harv or Glen a call to discuss the offering and which bulls would be ideal for you.

We would like to introduce ourselves to those who don’t already know us. My wife and I own and operate Green Hills Livestock, which is a mixed farming operation located in the green hills surrounding Redberry Lake, northwest of Saskatoon.

Our first involvement in the Speckle Park breed began with fitting purebreds for shows. In 2013, we bought into our first Speckle Park bull to breed our commercial cows to. Now we only have one commercial cow that is not a Speckle Park cross.

We were so impressed with the Speckle Park breed, that we began building a purebred herd. The focus of our purebred breeding program is based on the same principals as our commercial herd emphasizing production traits that are important to commercial beef production. Speckle Park are strong in many areas of importance such as structural soundness, longevity, calving ease, calf vigor and superior carcass traits.
