Welcome to the 21st Kuntz Simmental Farm, McIntosh Livestock, SAJ Simmentals Annual Bull Sale, March 17, 2020 at the Lloydminster Exhibition Grounds, Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. For over two decades, this sale has been selling high quality Simmental bulls to the livestock industry. Their success has been consumer demand from the commercial livestock producers to many purebred breeders who have chosen to select high value bulls.

The offering consists of a powerful lineup of seventy yearling bulls. The red and the black purebreds are exciting, stylish and have muscle, with deep body shape… exactly what you want your steer calves to possess. The fullbloods are burly and powerful and a well-kept secret. We will never have enough fullbloods in this offering, as they are meat machines. This sale has grown into a source for superior sire prospects, whether you are looking for domestics or fullbloods.

Each year, Blair and Stephanie go to Canadian Western Agribition to receive their award, People’s Choice Championship in the commercial barn, but it is not without effort for 365 days of the year. Their pen at Agribition captured the Supreme Champion Bulls and of course, the Champion Simmental Pen. Locally, at Edam Fall Fair they duplicated the task and at Lloydminster Stockade Roundup, the McIntoshs exhibited the Reserve Grand Simmental Bull in the open show…they all sell!

The bulls will be on display at Lloyd Ex the day prior, do not hesitate to stop by or feel free to give any of the boys a call as they will be pleased to discuss the cattle business, the bulls and those that will fit your breeding needs. Vortex is definitely one of the features in the bull pen this year. He is stout, soft sided, deep ribbed and hairy. Strong cow families run deep in his pedigree and it comes as no surprise to us that our two feature Fleckvieh bulls this year (Vortex and Gibson) are raised by full sisters, direct daughters of Miss Moses 03X. The addition of FGAF Precious Thing 402T and Crossroads Whisper 930W on the top side solidifies the cow power in this pedigree. Vortex is a maternal brother to Kuntz Gudas 15E, a past high seller and herd sire for Virginia Ranch.

This is an embryo calf out of 514C, who is a flush mate to Climax, Sonic, Duramax and Determined. Gibson is one of those calves that catches your eye right from a very young age. His ideal color pattern and beautiful cherry red color help but he has that stoutness and presence to him that sets him apart. The combination of the Miss Moses cow family and United has me excited to see the daughters from this bull five to six years from now.

Stout, moderate framed, low birth bull. We had most of our Fullblood heifers bred to Guerrero this spring and we were very pleased with the calving ease that he provided. 27G offers some outcross genetics for us. I had been researching Brenair Park Hafke for several years and when I got the opportunity to purchase some semen on him, I jumped on it. Our Hafke calves are sound in their structure, with lots of length of body and are smooth made. They all possess that dark red color and plenty of pigmentation.

This is the only Dealer son we have on offer. He is moderate framed with a small birth weight, but he grew up quite nicely. Netflix is a bull that has always been very high on my list. He is packed full of meat and is exceptionally deep bodied. He has as much depth of flank and spring of rib as you can get. He is especially nice headed and has that herd bull presence to him. His full sister was Ty’s 4-H heifer last year and was one of our feature females on offer last fall at the Border City Sale who was purchased by Swan Lake Farms.

They don’t make bulls with much more depth of body and flank than Gainer 2G. This bull closely resembles his two-year old dam. She is a heifer that, when I first saw her picture in the Western Harvest catalogue, I knew that we needed to get her bought. We had high expectations for her and she has not disappointed. She has a perfect udder with lots of milk and we are expecting more great things from her in the future.

When searching for an outcross red bull to AI some cows to, we came across STF Top Notch owned by Grant Lodge Farm. We bred him to a sampling of our top red cows and 4G is one of the resulting calves. His dam, 617D, is a maternal sister to Kuntz Sheriff 8A, as well as Kuntz Patriot 27C, who was a high seller of ours a few years ago to Rendezvous Farms. 4G reminds me a lot of Patriot when he was a yearling.

Granger is a bull that I quite like. He is stout made with tons of depth. To top it off, he is hairy, dark red with a nice blaze face. 5Y is one of those cows that always gets picked out on pasture tours and her daughters are always the first ones to get sorted off into the 4-H pen, as they are always among the best plus they are super quiet.

Lots 17 and Lot 18 are so similar that I am only going to do one footnote for them. These two bulls are easily the longest bodied bulls in the pen. They both have a square, level hip with good muscling and plenty of depth. For the fifth year in a row I find myself writing a footnote for yet another son of 313A, and by the looks of things, next year will make six consecutive years, as she has another smart looking bull calf on her again this year. 313A has been a model of consistency but I would really like to see her switch things up for a few years and give us a couple of daughters Double Bar D Law 44E - Sire of Lots 21 & 22 before she leaves us. 19G is a real attractive bull. He is square hipped, stout and hairy. This guy should add some hip and eye appeal to his calf crop.

These are the first set of calves out of our heifer bull, Double Bar D Law 444E. We have mainly used Law in the heifer pen and he has done an excellent job for us there. His calves are born easily with very moderate birth weights and they grow up to be stout, stylish calves. 63G is a thick made bull out of a nice Cruz two-year old.

Here is the highest performing bull in the pen. The Cruz daughters are making excellent young cows. They are moderate framed with decent milk and perfect udders. Their teat spacing, teat size and udder suspension is on point as you can see by this bull’s full sister, 803F. These will be the last Cruz sons to sell, as we lost him too early due to injury.

38G is a smooth made bull with nice muscle expression. With an 83 lb. birth weight and the EPDs to back it up, this bull offers strong calving ease but also comes with a 855 lb. weaning weight.

Welcome to the 21th Annual Kuntz/McIntosh/SAJ Bull Sale. We are excited to showcase this group of bulls. We feel this is a very complete group of bulls that we have brought to town, with a good mix of calving ease and some power bulls to add the pounds to your calf crop. Highlights include the Pen of Three black bulls we showcased in Edam, taking home People’s Choice and Champion European Pen of Three honours. The Pen of Three red bulls that we exhibited at Regina will also be there. This pen was crowned People’s Choice and Champion Simmental Pen, and went on to be Supreme Champion Pen of Three. These bulls will add to your replacement pen being out of strong maternal cow families. In hindsight we should have been picturing these guys in nicer weather but ended up working in the picture pen on the 10th of January on a lovely -40 day with the wind chill!

We truly enjoy raising our family in this industry and spending time at cattle shows and sales, watching the excitement in the Simmental breed.

We seem to get busier every year though, with things around the farm and activities with family and perhaps don’t get a chance to show our appreciation and visit with all our customers the way we would like to. So a special thanks to everyone that has supported us at the past bull and female sales over the years. Without all of you we wouldn’t be able to enjoy this great industry!

We would like to invite all past, present and future customers to come on out to the sale and also make sure to stop by the farm to preview the bulls and the cow herd any time. The bulls will be on display indoors from March 15-17 at the Lloydminster Exhibition grounds in Lloydminster, SK. All McIntosh bulls will be double vaccinated with Fusogard to help in the prevention of foot rot. Again, this year we decided to do the Q Select Genotype testing, as few costumers have been inquiring about it.

We offer free delivery in Alberta and Saskatchewan and cost shared to other destinations. We will work with you to get the bulls delivered as close to you as possible and in a time frame that works for both parties.

Focus is a bull that we are pretty excited about. He has the potential to be a real star in the heifer pen but has also performed very well growth wise. He weaned off his first calf momma at an impressive 870 lbs. from a birth weight of 77 lbs. That’s a pretty great birth to weaning spread! He also comes with a nice 277-day gestation length coupled with EPD numbers at the leading edge of the breed in the calving ease, birth weight and also maternal calving ease departments. You couldn’t ask for a more nicely marked bull either, just a perfect blaze face on this guy with a Homo Black bonus. Focus also DNA tested favorably for carcass traits, particularly tenderness, marbling and rib eye area.

He is a very sound bull on the move and in our opinion, he’s pretty tough to beat in his phenotype. Dynamic was a member of our Edam Fall Fair Pen of Bulls who were People’s Choice Champs and also, Champion European Pen. He is sired by a bull we raised here on the farm and continue to use through our AI program, McIntosh Ironclad. Ironclad now calls Ontario home in the Indian River Cattle Company program. Ironclad reads very well on paper and carries a very popular pedigree in today’s Simmental world, being a son of Cobra out of the immortal Mader Iron Sugar donor! The bottom side of Dynamic’s pedigree is pretty exciting as well, with his dam being a member of our popular Nashville cow family.

We think of Ritual as the most power-oriented calf of that flush. He has always weighed up very well with a weaning weight of 960 lbs. and a December 26 weight of 1325 lbs. On picture day this year it was a pretty miserably cold, brutal day and nothing came easy that day except the picture of Ritual, that was the only easy picture we took that day. Another son of the Ironclad bull, Engage provides more of a calving ease option.

His EPD numbers project him to be in the top 10% for calving ease and top 3% for maternal calving ease. Combine those numbers with his birth weight of 82 lbs. and he starts to look like a bull that is worth a second look. He was the heaviest at yearling weigh time as well, posting an actual weight of 1475 lbs. on December 26, 2019. Renegade gets a lot of his sheer power from his dam; she is a big strong cow that always brings in one of the heaviest calves year after year. This performance is also reflected in his EPDs, placing him in the top 2% of the breed in both the weaning and yearling weight categories. The flush turned out very well and coincidentally produced all bull calves. Of the full brother flush mates that we have on offer here, it’s safe to say that Gauntlet is the biggest middled bull of them all. He’s a very deep ribbed bull. Daredevil gave us mostly heifers last year, so aside from this flush, we don’t have many bulls to offer this year and all but one of these are black hided.

Here is another black hided Daredevil son. He is our son Seth’s calf, as it was Seth’s good commercial cow that was the recip that raised him. Flex isn’t too large in frame, but he is very wide over his top and very wide through his hind quarter when you view him from behind. He is also impressively deep bodied and deep quartered when viewed from the side. He is out of one of our walking herd bulls, Matrix. The Matrix sons performed very well in the DNA tests for desirable carcass traits. Flex tested to display the most desirable traits in three out of four categories (CRH, IGF-2 and Leptin)! We would expect Flex to sire some pretty wicked feeder cattle.

Homegrown is a calf that we quite like around here. He is the maternal sibling to Lot 46 McIntosh Legacy 28F, who was one of our lead off Daredevil sons from last year’s sale. He now calls the progressive Rendezvous Farms operation home. Reports from them have been quite positive about Legacy! Just a February 28 calf, Homegrown is really an impressive individual and has performed very well. We showed Homegrown this past fall in Lloydminster at the Stockade Round-Up where he was Reserve Junior Bull Calf. His sire, Black Gold Loaded Up 145E, is a bull that we walk here. 145E’s dam, RF Certainly Flirtin 532C, has been hailed in recent times as one of the breed’s leading females in terms of her phenotype and fantastic ROI of her offspring. We have four Captain Scream sons on offer this year and all are very similar in their type. Three of these guys made up our Agribition Pen of Three Bulls this past fall where they performed very well, being named the People’s Choice Champs, Champion Simmental and Supreme Overall Pen of Bulls. Paramount was the heavyweight bull in the pen of three weighing in at 1328 lbs. while he was at Agribition. Paramount is a very docile guy and really nice to work with. Classic was the bull we chose to lead off our show string in the early part of the fall and he did not disappoint, being named Reserve Champion Simmental Bull at the Lloydminster Stockade Round-Up. He simply typed in with our other pen bulls so perfectly that for Agribition he just had to go in with the pen bulls and we were very pleased with the result! Classic is just a standout in so many ways. He has the easy-going attitude of a champion and is really a pleasure to be around. He is so soft looking and mellow in his design and appearance. He walks around on a massive bone and hoof. He is sound and fluid in his movement. He has a 98 lb. birth weight and a bit shorter 279-day gestation length which probably comes from his Red Mountain dam. 43C is in so many ways similar to Classic. She’s very soft and mellow, huge ribbed and has the same dark red luxurious hair.

Rustic is a bull that should, and will, have friends on sale day. This has been an impressive bull right from day one. He has a presence about him, whether you are looking at his front view and his nice head or the side profile where you’ll notice his depth of body and good ass end, which is something this whole sire group has. Another good 66Z son here. The 66Z bull is a bull I will try to AI again this year after seeing these bulls develop. They all have nice heads, moderate birth weights and are good performance bulls. This is a bull I always looked for while touring the pasture this summer. Darker red than the Rustic bull and similar in type.

His dam, 82D, is an up and coming cow in my herd. She raised a good Red Force son last year that went to Red Acres Farm, Biggar. Knowing what his dam and granddam have done here, I would be excited for a pen of replacement heifers off of him.

35G is probably the darkest red bull I have to offer this year, but that is definitely not all he has to offer. You will notice the thickness and depth of hind quarter that all these 66Z sired cattle have. The dam to this bull might be a top three favorite cow of mine on the farm. Purchased from Westway Farms as a bred heifer, she consistently stamps them with that color. Her udder is about as perfect as you could imagine a cow to have. She has a very good Epic sired calf this year.

Rounding out my reds comes this super dark red Summit son. Summit is a past Agribition champion and seems to lock in the deep red color. This fella has good calving ease (15%) and birth weight (10%) numbers in the breed. Last year at the sale I had two sons of Summit selling to Westman Farms, Vermilion and Spornitz Farms Inc., Edgerton. 1G would be a bull that would work well on group of second calvers and maybe heifers in the future.

Hunter is a big performance, power bull. He is soft made but carries a lot of depth and thickness throughout. This will be the last calf from the 8Z dam. She sent bulls through this ring to Burt Boldt, Glenbush and Robert Cardinal, Lashburn. A balanced set of EPDs for this fella, makes him one to check out. An ET calf here, purchased from the New Year’s Resolution Sale from Beechinors. Out of the popular Loaded Up bull that is showing up at the top of many sale reports. The dam to this bull is a heavily used donor cow for Beechinors that has and continues to produce some sought after progeny. 20G catches your eye, first with his attractive baldy face and then as you analyze him you’ll appreciate his clean front end, length of body and overall attractiveness.

His recip dam held him longer than his other flush brothers. They ranged in birth weight from 80 to 100 lbs.

10G comes from the polled AI sire, Guerrero, who I have used very successfully for two years on my fullblood heifers. He was the only bull calf I got last year from Guerrero but next year there will be a nice group. 10G was out of an up and coming first calf Diesel heifer that did well on her first go, unfortunately I lost her this fall to an accident. 10G ranks very high on calving ease (4%) and birth weight (10%) within the breed. A bull I would be confident that could work successfully on heifers. Edgar comes from a line of good uddered females as 44E and the 517B granddam have very nice, tight, square udders.

Two years ago I partnered with Roach Ranching and purchased the high seller out of the Lockhart Valley Sale. Man Crush is a direct son of the $76,000 Charles bull. Crush has done everything I asked for. He consistently throws that cherry dark red color that is sought after, ample testicle size, loads of hair and good temperament. 44G is out of my best fulblood cow, who has mostly had daughters for me. She is currently being flushed now to get some more influence in my herd. 44G has a nice 95 lb. BW and a 920 lb. September weaning weight. He has lots of length, which you will notice on all these Crush sons. A bull I’m quite high on.

Davis is a bull I quite like. His full fleck dam has never missed with two daughters retained and her other bull was a good bull that sold to Purvis Trucking, Kerrobert. Her udder looks like she is a first calver. 42G would make a great group of replacements and it doesn’t hurt that Lot 66 & Keet’s Betty 54B (Dam) he ranks in the top 1% for milk. Terms & Conditions Terms...

The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable at par at the sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made; no invoicing on buyers in attendance, unless previous arrangements have been made. Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in cases of disputes, the auctioneer’s decision will be final. Current exchange rates will be announced sale day. All monies are in Canadian funds.

Bidding...

Each animal will sell to the highest bidder...no by-bidding will be permitted.

Disputes - Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved in dispute. If no further bidding is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision on all disputes will be final.

Announcements...

All announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay close attention to such disclosures.

Breeder’s Guarantee...

All bulls sold are guaranteed breeders by the owners. We guarantee to provide you with a sound breeding bull. Should any bull fail to be an unsatisfactory breeder, he will be replaced with a bull of equal value or a credit will be given toward the purchase of another bull. If you have a problem with your bull, please notify us immediately. Under no circumstances will the seller be liable for more than the purchase price of the animal.

Exception Guarantee...

In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void.

Certificate of Registration...

Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Simmental Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made.

Liabilities...

All persons attend the sale at their own risk. The seller, facility owner and sale manager assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents that occur. It is understood that T Bar C Cattle Co. (2013) Ltd. is acting only as a medium between buyer and seller and is not responsible for any failure on the part of either party to live up to his obligations. Neither does T Bar C Cattle Co. (2013) Ltd. assume any financial obligations to collect or enforce collection of any monies between parties and any legal action that may in exceptional cases be taken must be between the buyer and the seller. T Bar C Cattle Co. (2013) Ltd. assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfillment of all guarantees and representations made hereunder.

Rights and Obligations...

The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and obligations of the two parties connected thereto are not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale.

Phone, Mail, Wire Bids...

Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone, mail or wire their bids and instructions to the sale managers, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.

Delivery...

We will assist in arranging transportation wherever possible. Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. $100 rebate on bulls taken home sale day. Bulls must be insured by buyer.

Insurance...

Will be available sale day. We strongly recommend that insurance is purchased for full value.

Errors...

All announcements at sale time, written or oral, supercede any written material in the catalogue.

Pedigree Estimates (PE) are created on the projected mating of the animal’s sire and dam based on averages of the two, creating estimated values that do not hold the same accuracy of actual EPDs issued from the association and should be used as such.

The sellers reserve the right to draw semen from any bull in the sale for in-herd use only.

The collection will be at the purchaser’s convenience and the seller’s expense.
