The livestock beef business is creating a new chapter in the beef industry; with a lower Canadian dollar, the demand for our beef will be ever increasing as the export market should strengthen. We as producers will need to remain sharp in producing functional cattle that will work in any environment, by developing low maintenance cow herds that can turn in big stout calves to the market place each fall.

Simmental bulls will play an important role in this process.

This year’s offering is plain; a deeper, stouter set of rugged, powerful young bulls backed with proven genetics that originates from proven time tested cow families. This group of seed stock producers all believe in producing a sound functional product with a customer service no nonsense approach. These bulls have not been pushed and over pampered but more so developed to be productive and ensure longevity for you the customer. Half of our offering this year is from a calving ease bull we raised ourselves, Spruces North Star 248Z. We used him on all of our heifers and a few cows and I have to be honest, we haven’t had an easier calving bull on the place. The calves are born with no bulk, small heads and small to moderate birth weights even on the older females. I never had an easier time calving. At one month of age, these calves had more hair on them than I had ever seen on young calves. They looked like baby yaks. But the real bonus is that he left his offspring with good muscling and large testicles, and anxious boys who can’t wait to meet some new girls. Average birth weight 74 pounds on 11 calves (10 were males).

“Touchdown” is out of a second calver who has a nice udder and good feet. Smaller framed, dark red and herd bull instincts. He will definitely get the job done for you. North Star, or “Buddy” as we liked to call him, makes his home at Ross and Barb Wards at Arrowwood and they are very happy with him. I may need to convince them he should come back home to my place.

It was a sad day a few days before writing these footnotes. We had the difficult decision of having to put Longrider’s mother down. I really believed this young cow had a bright future ahead of her but life had other ideas. I have liked Longrider from the moment he was born and he has not disappointed. Sired by North Star, he should pass on calving ease, the dark color and performance. I also should mention that North Star’s mother, Mindy has an awesome calf at her side from the $112,000 Double Bar D United bull that we purchased at their sale last year and that they thought so much of that they bought a half interest back. No doubt, that calf will turn heads. Mindy was specifically picked to breed to United because we believe she has what it takes to move forward.

Now this is a bull I’m excited about too. Chris Poley of T bar C picked him out right away, when he came to look at the bulls. He might not be a flashy looking bull with all the bells and whistles but I think he’s got a lot going for him. Not to take away from the others but I think Warlock will be the easiest calving out of our offering; small head and shoulders and moderate birth weight. Going back to Raptor, a bull who we bought from Maxwells has left us with some of the best heifers to ever walk here. I just love them. His maternal grandmother, Shylo, would be one of the cows I would keep back if I could only keep five. I think he could be popular come sale day.

Spruce View Acres It’s hard not to look in our bull pen and not notice Medicine Man. A deep bodied, thick, thick butted bull that carries that muscling very well down his legs and across the top of his back. This cow family has never disappointed me. You will be happy with a truckload of steers that will have capacity, thickness, and bring more money to the table because of it. If I didn’t have so many related to him, I would be keeping him at home.

This is a tremendous bull. If this heifer raises an animal like this as a first calf, I can’t wait to see what her future offspring will be like. Her full sister is probably the top heifer in our keeper pen and her mother’s calf this year already is a show stopper that will be a top bull in next year’s sale. Oh, and did I mention Medicine Man has a disposition of a kitten. I hate to pick favorites, but....

Funny story about Tyrone. While we were having Christmas dinner, his mother Truffles opened the sliding door to an old barn of ours by propping it with her head and maneuvering her body in and having the door swing shut behind her so she could give birth to her calf indoors.

Smart or what. If we could only raise them all like. Anyways, Tyrone’s sire Tyson is a bull we raised ourselves that I use in our commercial herd and on the few red cows we have. I have to admit; he has raised some of the best calves to have walked our pastures. It’s nothing for them to raise 900 pounds plus calves at weaning. Scott Stauffer of Lakeview Farms, Tofield, picked his mother Truffles as the best cow we have on the place and he may be right. All I know is if I could only keep five cows, she and her full sister Cherish would be staying at home. Excellent feet and udder here.

Samson’s dam, Lizzy, has always been a favorite here. Backed by some of the best in the industry it’s no wonder that all of Lizzy’s female offspring have been retained in the herd. High maternal again crossed with Witchita, whose calves were well received at last year’s sale, was a no brainer for us. Samson is very similar to his full brother who sold to Anthony Vanderlee from Stettler. Lizzy stamps them the same, but isn’t that what we strive for, consistency? Thick butted rascal who will leave his owner very happy when he cashes his calf cheque at the bank.

Poor Dakota. This bull had so many things stacked against him this year that he had to contend with. First his mother ended up with a bad leg wound from the time he was a month old until August, so she didn’t milk like she normally would; they both had to stay at home on crappy pasture because of the drought and when he was weaned, being the youngest by six weeks, he had to compete with the big boys. But I have to say, from the moment he was born, I admired him, and on pasture he was my favorite. His full brother was our second high seller last year, going to Randy Archibald of Rosalind for $9000 and it was no mistake that Reno was bred to Raptor again. This combination worked. Dakota has great EPD’S: top 4% for weaning and yearling, top 2% for maternal weaning, top 3% for milk and CWT. Don’t hold it against him that he may be a little smaller than some of the rest. Remember he is the youngest, and had a difficult year to deal with. If things were different for him, I guarantee he would be in the big boy pen and a top seller for us.

Burak comes from a very special cow family. Anchored from the great Rueben Mapletoft cow. CET Monet 92S, then bred to CB2 to MFL Atlas (Bold x Petra) to Klyber and rest of pedigree is catalogued... a lot of greats in this pedigree! Burak 997B should throw consistently dark red, heavily pigmented easy doing progeny that will come easy during your calving season. DNA tested Diluter Free. In analyzing all facets of “Triple Play”... his pedigree, conformation, length of spine and calving ease smoothness, impressive growth EPD’s, large testicles, great temperament as well as being TRIPLE POLLED FF, dark red and heavily goggled with black feet, 610B has been one of my favorites. An April 2014 model made him a little young to sell as a yearling and I was also debating retaining him for my own use. 610B is sired by the Xander bull that had exceptional growth from birth to yearling. Scurred/Polled Red Purebred. Red Ticket is from two black parents… first son to sell off Elite 79U (Black Obama) publicly. A bull that has done an exceptional job for Grinalta and is still working, going on to 8 years. Obama is a deep bodied, soggy, long bodied, black bull with 47 centimeter testicles. His EPD’s are second to none. Look at his percentile ranking (all in the right, green). Obama produces thick made soggy easy Sire of Lot 52 doing progeny. Red Ticket was a bull I contemplated retaining for my own use mainly because of his genetic makeup. He is out of my best black white blazed cow, 8T. Terms and Conditions Terms The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable at par at the sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made; no invoicing on buyers in attendance, unless previous arrangements have been made. Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in cases of disputes, the auctioneer’s decision will be final. Current exchange rates will be announced sale day. All monies are in Canadian funds.

Bidding Each animal will sell to the highest bidder... no by-bidding will be permitted. Disputes - Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved in dispute. If no further bidding is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision on all disputes will be final.

Announcements All announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay close attention to such disclosures.

Breeder’s Guarantee All bulls sold are guaranteed breeders by the owners. We guarantee to provide you with a sound breeding bull. Should any bull fail to be an unsatisfactory breeder, he will be replaced with a bull of equal value, or a credit will be given toward the purchase of another bull. If you have a problem with your bull please notify us immediately. Under no circumstances will the seller be liable for more than the purchase price of the animal.

Exception Guarantee In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void.

Certificate of Registration Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Simmental Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made.

Liabilities All persons attend the sale at their own risk. The seller, facility owner and sale manager assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents that occur. It is understood that T Bar C Cattle Co. Ltd. is acting only as a medium between buyer and seller and is not responsible for any failure on the part of either party to live up to his obligations. Neither does T Bar C Cattle Co. Ltd. assume any financial obligations to collect or enforce collection of any monies between parties and any legal action that may in exceptional cases be taken must be between the buyer and the seller.
