Jewels & Diamonds Simmental Welcome to the 2016 edition of the Jewels and Diamonds Sale. This past year has presented its challenges from a long haying season to a long harvest season, but as in most instances, the reward at the end of the day is always worth it. As a good friend of mine reminds me that “if it was always so easy everyone would do it.” The agriculture sector has always faced us with new challenges and obstacles but at the end of the day, the programs and families that plan and push through it are always rewarded and are the ones that move forward the quickest. The Simmental breed has always been sought after because of the breed’s ability to not only produce high gaining calves that producers strive to sell each calf crop but their ability to produce highly maternal females with great production and an abundance of milking ability. This makes the Simmental breed a very popular choice to a wide variety of cattlemen and beef producers. This year’s offering is one that is filled with many Jewels and Diamonds. We have a few of those fancy heifer calves which allow you to develop and breed these females to suit your programs. A very strong set of bred heifers that will have a lifetime of earning potential, as well as a very special offering of proven cows. For those of you who like the frozen lots, we will offer a select offering of semen and embryos as well. This group of Simmental cattle on offer are from the heart of each program and will provide you with many years of earning potential and add value to your own programs. Plan to be with us on November 18 in Ponoka to evaluate these programs’ dedication and hard work to the Simmental breed and the beef industry. The cattle will be available for viewing at the sale barn the day before the sale and we at T Bar C will be available to help with any appraisals or absentee bidding requirements you may have with the utmost confidence you deserve and expect. For the Jewels and Diamonds group,
Shane Michelson

Spruce View Acres Welcome to the 2nd annual Jewels and Diamonds Heifer Sale. We are pleased to be a part of a new and exciting sale that will have something for everyone. As this is our first heifer sale ever, our selection of six breds are out of the keeper pen and out of some of the top cows on the farm. We are very proud of them. Our main focus is to raise happy cows because happy cows are the best producers, and easier to work with. Thanks to all previous buyers of our bulls and for all of the support and friendship from everyone we meet. It truly makes the late calving nights worth it! Feel free to stop in anytime to view the heifers and stay for a coffee. Enjoy the sale! Steve and Tracy Kushnerik

When Chris came to pick heifers for the sale, he pointed to “Cast A Spell” and said “what about her?” I replied, “no way in hell. She’s untouchable.” But then Steve said that with this being our first sale, we should bring our best and with that I knew I would have to include her. Having an actual weaning weight of 877 pounds, her dam I’m sure could wean a 900 pound bull calf in the desert. Her full brother going to our bull sale this spring will definitely draw attention. Her dam is probably our most consistent cow on the place. What you see is what you get, every time. To sweeten the pot more, she will be the first ( and probably last) one of three daughters in this sale to sell out of Wichita, ever. Bred to Double Bar D Haldor. I must be crazy! Thanks a lot Steve! Exposed to Double Bar D Haldor 910A, 802800, from February 20 to April 30, 2016. Observed bred on March 30. Vet estimates for early December.

We are extremely proud to be offering Dream Weaver as part of our sale offering. Incredible length and depth in this female with an actual weaning weight of 845 pounds. She looks more like a second calver, not a bred heifer. Should have a nice udder too. I think her mating to Haldor should be the icing on the cake. Make sure you check her out. She is sa-weet. Exposed to Double Bar D Haldor 910A, 802800, from February 20 to April 30, 2016. Preg tested safe for early December calving.

Country Sunshine is out of a young cow, Jasmine, who I feel is going to have a big impact on our herd. Her Chandler heifer calf this year is one of the top calves in the pen. I can’t wait until she has a bull calf; he will be a top producer. All of these heifers were bred to Double Bar D Haldor, a bull that Shane purchased for us last year, sight unseen, and when we got him home, he was even better than I ever imagined. I feel he is one of the most complete bulls I have seen and have had the pleasure to own with Semex. It’s unfortunate we lost him this spring right after breeding, so we have limited calves from him and it makes it that much harder to let these good heifers go. Exposed to Double Bar D Haldor 910A, 802800, from February 20 to April 30, 2016. Preg tested safe for late December early January calving.

Fairy Dust comes from a long line of hard working, proven females. You’ll notice that Fairy Dust’s dam, Harmony, and 370B’s dam Heavens Kiss are maternal sisters going back to Sox, one of our foundation females who has more offspring kept back than any other female in the herd, because they are good. Again we should be retaining Fairy Dust back because Harmony is going to be 14 years and came open this year for the first time and may have to go down the road. Expect to get feminine females and thick herd bulls. The Sox cow family knows how to raise beef. Exposed to Double Bar D Haldor 910A, 802800, from February 20 to April 30, 2016. Full Fleckvieh. I think Harlequin is going to be a popular heifer come sale day. We acquired her grandmother from Smith Simmentals and I have to say that was one of the best decisions we made. Generations of dark red offspring on both sides of the pedigree. Melane has had a number of high selling bulls in our string at previous sales, with the latest going to Drew and Deanna Keiver of Three Hills. Melane is a bull maker and I only have one daughter in our herd and she has an awesome United heifer calf that is already committed for next year’s sale, so Harlequin should be staying home. A wise man told me once that you don’t make a name for yourself by the bulls you sell, it’s by the females you raise. I listened to that advise and I think it shows in these heifers. Exposed to Double Bar D Haldor 910A, 802800, from February 20 to April 30, 2016. Preg tested safe for late December early January calving.

Potion comes from a cow family loaded with pigment and good udders, not to mention knowing how to raise a calf. Her maternal sister raised our heaviest calf at weaning this year as a second calver at 1052 pounds. Not bad for a cow who is barely bigger than that herself. Look further back in the pedigree and you’ll notice Sox turns up again and Justice and Whistler in the mix only sweetens this deal. Bred to Haldor could make this the ideal Christmas gift. Exposed to Double Bar D Haldor 910A, 802800, from February 20 to April 30, 2016. Preg tested safe for late December early January calving.

Double J Ranches & Wildrose Ranches Welcome to the Jewels and Diamonds Sale! We are very excited to offer up some very exciting females from our herd. Four of the five are the first registered females being sold from our main herd bull DJJ Frank The Tank 2U. We have only kept back a select few of his daughters with majority leaving our farm. The fifth female is from our young herd bull KLR Buddy 73B. We purchased him to breed our heifers and now he will be breeding his first Frank daughters this winter. I believe this is going to be a great cross in genetics. Please feel free to come view the heifers, their dams, Buddy or Frank anytime. All females have been palpated and fully vaccinated under our program.

Callisto is a daughter from my Lazy RS cow I bought in 2007. She has always thrown great bulls and now finally a daughter to grow someone’s herd. She carries nice depth with a bit more hip then the others. If she develops, like I know she will, you will end up with a long lasting solid built cow. Open.

This calf comes from a Wildrose cow at our place. A first calf heifer that I think did a great job raising this lady. Don’t be fooled by her height as she fully makes up for it in width. Like all of our KLR Buddy calves she is thick from tip to tail. Knowing both the dam and grand dam of this lady you are in for a real treat.

100 % Fleckvieh Fullblood. 18D is an attractive Fleckvieh heifer whose mother we picked up from Elliott Simmentals at this sale last year. She is sired by Elliott’s outstanding young herd sire Anchor D Image and goes back to some of the greats of the Fleckvieh world on both the top and bottom of her pedigree. Her mother is the classic Fleckvieh cow – mellow, yellow, big eared, big hoofed and very easy keeping. Even though she was a heavy milking first calver, she kept in great condition all year while grazing some pretty poor pastures. Any producer who appreciates easy calving, easy keeping, calm cattle should take this heifer home.

Lady Lookr has been a “stand-out” since birth. Very attractive dark cherry red with loads of pigment, extremely long spined with lots of body, feminine angular frame. Outstanding docile temperament. This heifer is the top of the 2016 class here at Grinalta. She is sired by the popular Crossroad Radium out of a first calving, double polled, King daughter. Note that the dam is a full sister to our homozygous donor cow, Alberta 102U. Embryos are offered in this sale from this great cow. This heifer has all the credentials and makings of establishing herself as a top female in any serious program. A rare opportunity to capitalize on a polled program that was built on strong proven genetics at the start- EDC Poll Magnum 1B the only Canadain bred mutation. Ex.- Double Bar D Flashy has generated her owners close to $200,000.00. Smooth Polled 100% Full Fleckvieh.

Lady Admiral is unique and special. She is a 1/2 Fleckvieh, triple polled, black beauty. 313D is from “The Admiral’s’’ first calf crop and we are impressed. HP Admiral is our new homozygous polled FF non diluting herdsire. This heifer is an example of his versatility in using him. Her dam is a broody black blazed female that never misses. All her calves seem to have lots of growth and performance as note this heifer’s impressive growth and size for a almost mid April calf. Note her weaning weight. This heifer is deep throughout, soggy, long spined and well balanced and is more impressive to look at than her picture shows. 313D brings new outcross Fleckvieh genetics to the purebred industry. This midnight black heifer with lightning chrome makes her a pretty attractive flashy head turner and very fashionable for today’s industry. Lady Admiral has our admiration and once you study this heifer closely, she will have yours as well!

The only bull in the world of this genetic linage and polled!! Mated to a cow that has impressed us so much that she has entered the E.T. arena. She is a direct daughter of one of the top polled cows in the industry, Cherry 81S. Cherry is the dam of the “Unique” bull. This donor cow is phenotypically and genetically very impressive. She is a beautiful replica of her dam, Cherry. In analyzing this mating from all directions, it’s impossible not to get excited. These embryos are the first to sell off of OSF Vazquex 1B. Embryos are Direct Thaw - Exportable Internationally - Stored at Davis Rairdan - Guaranteed Viable on Delivery. We have chosen to offer you POLLED FF embryos off our top HOMOZYGOUS POLLED FF donor cow. Alberta PP102U is a very productive and fertile cow. Not uncommon to produce 30+ embryos per flush. She is a “front pasture” cow by no accident. Sired by the great female maker HP King out of our Lady Nolan x 1B cow. Lady Nolan was an exceptional cow that we lost prematurely before she could reach her full potential. A great producer and a different “route” to the great 1B cow. Note: the dam of “Lady Lookr” Lot 34 is out of a full sister to Alberta. Alberta has black hooves and muzzle which indicates she is a non-diluter.This homo polled donor is built from top genetics, study her genetics. For the A Lot, she is mated to Sunny Valley Dakota. In the B Lot, we are offering embryos from the very popular and consistent producing Top Notch No more needs to be said.. POLLED Top Notch x Alberta genetics available to you!

Embryos are Direct Thaw - Exportable Internationally - Stored at Davis Rairdan - Guaranteed Viable on Delivery. Maybe the first embryos offered off WFL Westcott 24C to sell this fall! Westcott was one of the most exciting young red sires from last spring selling for $165,000 to Canadian Sires. We were fortunate to obtain one of the limited semen shares on this exceptional sire. Westcott got everyone’s attention because of his overall completeness, soundness, maternal strength, scrotal(45.5 cms.), his great performance while not sacrificing calving ease. Everything clicked right in the makings of this bull. Westcott here was mated to a young Elite 79U (Black Obama) daughter that impressed us the from start. She was exceptional since birth. A typical Obama daughter. Donor, 22A gives a little bit of outcross genetics to the red pool and has a bright future ahead of her. We felt this mating would complement her and make for some very exciting impressive progeny.

GRINALTA’S RED PEARL 45P- DAM OF 129U
Embryos are Direct Thaw - Exportable Internationally - Stored at Davis Rairdan - Guaranteed Viable on Delivery. Attention! Here’s your chance to obtain embryos from one of the most popular and highly acclaimed bulls from 2016 mated to a proven, highly productive donor cow. Westcott 24C mated to Cinnamon 129U is a “for sure” winner. Westcott needs nothing more said, than he sold this past spring for $165,000. The Cinnamon cow, a daughter of Red Label is out of the great Grinalta 45P cow (pictured). Cinnamon has a proven track record and “built in” fertility. Both dam, Red Pearl 45P and Cinnamon are very fertile, producing consistently more eggs in one flush than a chicken lays in a month! Red Pearl 45P consistently produces 40 embryos per flush, and Cinnamon has produced 60 viable #1’s in only two flushes! Proven track record..she can produce! As a first calf heifer, Cinnamon produced “Label Me Teddy”

Always in search of outcross quality POLLED 100% Full Fleckvieh, we were impressed when we found Colossal. Maternally backed by Fleckvieh icons of the breed such as Salamon, Neff, Siegfried to name a few. He carries the polled gene from a proven great female maker in HP King, which we know very well and is sired by the very popular ALLM Colossal himself. We have not been disappointed, now just weaning his first calf crop. This calf crop is as good as any before. His calves look tremendous, especially the females. Colossal is extremely long spined, smooth shouldered, moderately narrow and long headed. He is deep bodied with a deep massive hind end. Wide backed, exhibiting lots of muscle at the top of his hips. Good conformation with large hooves that at four years old, are still perfectly sound never requiring maintainance. Dark cherry red with lots of pigment, black hairs in his tail. Colossal is impressive genotypically and phenotypically, no matter what angle you study him from.

Elliott Simmentals For the past 20 plus years, Pat and Sherry Elliott have worked hard to acquire some unique and limited genetics to construct this cow herd that they are very proud of. It was a long term vision of theirs to combine some of the best old genetics with some of the newer bloodlines, which was part of their marketing profile. They have sourced genetics throughout North America, and Europe and have introduced several of these bloodlines through AI. The one thing that always remains constant is change, and this mature cow herd dispersal was not in the plans, but Pat and Sherry felt this was their best move forward. Please note these cows have been bred to be retained in their own herd. Cows may be calving somewhat earlier than some of you are accustomed to, or bred AI to bulls that may not be an everyday household name. These cattle were specifically mated and designed for their program. I can’t help but think a dispersal always gives you that special opportunity to dip right into the heart of someone’s herd and years of hard work and dedication. The other extraordinary opportunity that presents itself with this mature cow herd dispersal is the fact that the Elliotts are not getting out of the business. It’s taken a lifetime to acquire some of these genetics, and there is little doubt in my mind that when they are ready to resource genetics, these cow families will be on their mind. Use all of these factors to your advantage and be sure to attend this event November 18 at the Ponoka Ag Event Center. If you’re unable to attend be sure to contact any of the sales staff to discuss your needs. Sincerely,
Dan Skeels Page 18 jewelsanddiamondsinside.indd 18

Terms & Conditions Terms
The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable at par at the sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made; no invoicing on buyers in attendance unless previous arrangements have been made. Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in cases of disputes, the auctioneer’s decision will be final. Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Current exchange rates will be announced sale day. All monies are in Canadian funds.
Certificate of Registration
Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Simmental Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made.
Health
All animals in the sale have met all necessary health requirements.
Guarantee
Each animal becomes the purchaser’s risk immediately after the animal is sold. All animals in this sale will be sold under the terms and guarantees set forth by the Canadian Simmental Association with regards to health, freedom from defects and from both reproductive and specific genetic unsoundness.
Pregnancy Information
All serviceable age females have been pregnancy examined by an accredited veterinarian, giving an estimated length of gestation. This estimated gestation period shall be used only as a guideline to calving and is not a guarantee of actual service.
Liabilities
All persons attend the sale at their own risk. The seller, facility owner and sale manager assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents that occur. It is understood that T Bar C Cattle Co. Ltd. is acting only as a medium between buyer and seller and is not responsible for any failure on the part of either party to live up to his obligations. Neither does T Bar C Cattle Co. Ltd. assume any financial obligations to collect or enforce collection of any monies between parties and any legal action that may, in exceptional cases, be taken must be between the buyer and the seller. T Bar C Cattle Co. Ltd. assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfillment of all guarantees and representations made hereunder.
Delivery
Every assistance will be given in getting your purchases home. Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.
Phone, Mail, Wire Bids
Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone, wire or mail their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.
Insurance
We strongly recommend that insurance is purchased for full value.
