Welcome to the fifth edition of the Hereford Harvest Sale hosted by the O’Connor family at Lone Pine Cattle Services, Vibank, Saskatchewan. This event was designed by Rob O’Connor to showcase his program in addition to enable young enthusiastic breeders to have a marketing venue for their programs, as their herds cannot justify the numbers to hold their own event.

Born in Hereford roots, Rob has been a catalyst for getting things done. Many of you would know his efforts of quarterbacking the world’s largest and exciting agricultural trade show, just minutes west of Langham on the Yellowhead. Dawn, a registered nurse, takes on a two-fold duty…assisting the sick and taking care of a large cowherd, along with the help of the girls. This family carries an everlasting commitment to agriculture and the Polled Hereford breed. The lineup for “Hereford Harvest V” offers many exciting opportunities…current year prospects carrying the newest and freshest genetics…some will be quite competitive and go on to be front pasture matrons. This group of deep, broody females will give breeders an opportunity to upgrade and add to their stock with fresh new genetics, adding value to one’s program.

From Your Host... Dear Hereford Friends and Fellow Cattlemen,
Welcome to the fifth edition of the Hereford Harvest Sale. We are proud to host this offering of cattle consigned by some of the most enthusiastic and dedicated breeders in Saskatchewan. Taking a year off from having a fall female sale has allowed all the consignors to grow their herds and increase the quality of their breeding stock. I think you will realize that when you analyze the cattle being offered. As you go through the catalogue you will see some of the successes that customers have had with their investments, but I think this offering might be the best ever! This year the Hereford breed in Western Canada has had so much to celebrate already. Strong spring bull sales, great results at 4-H and steer and heifer shows, a new Hereford display at Ag in Motion, an incredible Bonanza in Weyburn, great Hereford tours in the North West and 112 head shown at the SE Sask Mark of Excellence Show. A Hereford bull even topped the regular sale in Weyburn in early September...and there is still so much yet to come in the future! Bonanza ’20 will be held only three hours away from Vibank in Brandon, Manitoba, Agribition’s 50th Anniversary is coming up, which will create even more exciting Hereford events as part of its celebration. Hereford momentum will continue! Regarding the Lone Pine consignment, you will notice our program focuses on the maternal side of the pedigree. We cherish strong cow families. The bulls we use are top performing sons from these cow families. We love pay weight because that’s what brings home the $$$ from the stockyards....and of course I like to own attractive cattle, so there is an emphasis on eye appeal. Our program is working and you can see the proof in other programs that have cattle displaying the XLP brand. We are very excited about what we have selected for the sale this year. The heifer calves offered could be show heifers and will definitely make momma cows. The yearlings are all out of proven top end dams and are bred for calving ease and performance. The pairs are both attractive and proven. There are genetic links to National Champions throughout the entire catalogue. We would like to invite you to Vibank on October 18. The sale begins at 2:00 pm. Lunch will be served prior to the sale.

Yes, all good things must come to an end. Unfortunately we lost Action part way through the spring but at Lone Pine, we were very fortunate to have had Action as our major herd sire as long as we did. He provided us with several high level wins including Agribition Reserve Champion Bull and Supreme Champion Top 10 Finalist. But, more importantly, he has left a breeding legacy in our herd. His daughters have become excellent mothers. He crossed with our cows to produce great herd bulls as demonstrated by the number of sons that have sold to purebred breeders. With the purchase of Action as a yearling, I wanted to expediate the influence of the Gemini 89T cow family into our herd so we purchased a semen package from his sire, Untapped. This produced bulls OathKeeper and Gold, both who were sold into purebred herds. But before doing that we used them on a few females that resulted in some of our sale heifers and another son, Energy, who was used in the herd and has left us with some gorgeous heifer calves.

I’ve always been impressed with the Churchill Cattle Co. bull battery. Kickstart might be the best combination of their polled genetics. Light birth weights, sound feet and legs and strong breed character describe his calves. XLP Thunder 41F is the son we chose to run with our sale heifers this year. His dam is the Tori 41A cow, who produced $39,000 in sales with her first three calves.

This bull is a true testament to the breeding decisions of many of the best Polled Hereford breeders the Hereford breed has ever had. His pedigree is stacked with individuals who have proven to be the best breeding individuals of their generations. When John Bosnjak became partners with us in this bull, it was his excellent idea to change 707B’s name from Gordon to Tribute to honor all those great breeders who are documented in his pedigree. Yet his pedigree is different from most of today’s “high EPD” bulls and that makes him very useful. In fact, he can add to what many of these bulls are lacking such as pigment, hair color, bone and joint type. He has been crowned Champion Bull at the South East Saskatchewan Mark of Excellence Show, Reserve Grand Champion Bull at the Manitoba Livestock Expo and most recently Lexie showed him to Grand Champion Bull at 2016 Beef-A-Rama and Bonanza. This is proof of his excellent structure and eye appeal. As you can see we are very excited about the positive ways Tribute will influence our herd and the breed. We purchased an interest in Cool Water primarily because of the production record of his dam, 65P and this particular mating to NJW Hometown has proven to be one of their best breeding decisions. Not only has Cool Water become a high profile bull but one of his full brothers was named Reserve Champion Bull at the Toronto Royal, a full sister won her class at Agribition and another full brother was a feature bull in their bull sale. He adds a new set of genetics to our herd and I look forward to seeing the results of our breeding decisions.

We chose to introduce Excede into our AI program last year and we are sure happy we did! His calves are consistently born between 70-85 lbs. and once they reach about 90 days of age they turn on the jets and grow! He is a service sire to many heifers in the sale.

We have been quite successful with the investments we have made in powerful Medonte bulls like Heat and Webster, so when there was an opportunity to invest in another high calibre individual we obviously said yes. His dam’s cow family is the famous Nita, his sire’s dam is the prolific Churchill Lady 002 and his maternal grandsire’s dam is the unmatched breeding giant NJW P606 Daydream 73S. I don’t think you will find a better maternal pedigree. But what makes Evolution even more unique is the fact that he is also a performance oriented individual. This combination is what a real beef herd sire should be.

The Sybil Cow Family has been a part of our herd for 25 years! In fact, it is the same family that produced WLL Zoey 3Z, flush cow for Hoffman Ranch and dam of Lots 1 and 2 in their bull sale and Denver Bull Pen. 37G is a perfect example of why this family continues to thrive. The flush that she was part of also produced our junior herd sire, Prince 10E. In fact, we have been so happy with the flush we decided to flush Sybil 403A again. 37G’s sire is Kelsey 55B. Some of the top cows in the herd are Heat daughters. The Sarah family is one that we added to the herd a few years ago. I have always been impressed with how this family keeps working for Chad Wilson at Haroldson’s Polled Herefords and the dam of 228G has proven in our herd to be productive. I originally intended to use Sarah 228G as a brood cow for the Lone Pine herd but she has become popular with visitors this summer. I have her sisters and dam remaining in the herd, so I guess she can be offered in the sale.

I have always been a great fan of the female, Elm-Lodge Zoom Zoom. When her daughter, Elm-Lodge Boom Boom 32B was awarded Grand Champion Female at both the Toronto Royal Winter Fair and Agribition, I took the first opportunity to purchase a daughter. That daughter being EyeCandy, dam of Lot 3. When introducing a new cow family to the XLP herd I routinely keep the first daughter but I wanted to offer a nationally recognized maternal package in this year’s sale. Cow families are our focus when breeding cattle. Keyline had been a favourite matriarch of mine for years. Kirby Polled Herefords and Lone Pine Cattle made the step to purchase a granddaughter, Tanya 50W, from Square-D to add this genetic line to our herd. She was a great investment. For the sale this year we decided to bring what we feel is our top six heifer calves that will work for you in the show ring or in the pasture. Heifer calves are all halter broke and quiet as our five year old and seven year old have worked on them all summer. They all have great dispositions. We will retain show rights on all six heifer calves. All heifer calves have been tested for any current genetic defects and we will have the results at sale time. The bred heifers we have are bred to our exciting herd sire, GHC Schwarzkopf 125E. This will make for some interesting mating.

Liabilities
The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable at par at sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made; no invoicing on buyers in attendance unless previous arrangements have been made. Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in cases of disputes, the auctioneer’s decision will be final. Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Current exchange rates will be announced sale day. All monies are in Canadian funds.
All persons attend the sale at their own risk. The seller, facility owner and sale manager assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents that occur. It is understood that T Bar C Cattle Co. (2013) Ltd. is acting only as a medium between buyer and seller and is not responsible for any failure on the part of either party to live up to his obligations. Neither does T Bar C Cattle Co. (2013) Ltd. assume any financial obligations to collect or enforce collection of any monies between parties and any legal action that may, in exceptional cases, be taken must be between the buyer and the seller. Assistance will be given in getting your purchases home. Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.
Phone, Mail, Wire Bids Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone, wire or mail their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.
Insurance We strongly recommend that insurance is purchased for full value.
All serviceable age females have been pregnancy examined by an accredited veterinarian.
International Buyers Cattle or genetics sold to buyers outside of Canada may require export permits and health certificates. The buyer will be responsible for the costs in producing these export documents.
